Happy Sunday! I spent most of yesterday in bed, and today I may consider trying to do something productive, starting with watchalong!
Jab Harry Met Sejal!!! It’s lovely and we love it.

At 8am Chicago time, I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and we will all go from there.
Half an hour left and I’m mentally dancing already πΊYes that’s a disco emoji in honour of Sejal’s disco moves.

Aargh, my laptop is forcing me to refresh comments constantly instead of seeing them in real time. π¦ It started doing it last watchalong and it’s so annoying!

Again, old and new, but this is one of the best soundtracks of the 2010s and one of the best ones EVER done by Pritam. When he truly commits to a project, he is outstanding, and the result is something so special.

I do believe Safar gives us some backstory about how Harry got to Canada coz the song mentions a drifting traveller from his village who was “a good man but just a little angry” π

I’m gonna be traveling next weekend, now I’m gonna be on the look out for horrible large tour groups at the airport.

There is a huge football on top of Harry’s Nurmahal house. I’m gonna start looking at all the football references in this film.

Another reference! He celebrates Germany’s football win at the bar.

Harry acting all nice by force when he actually hates the people – that does a number on your head – no wonder he has a hard time really connecting.

Just noticed the slight close-up on the bag Anushka has on as it pans to SRK. Nice!

I felt that Dhokla fafda line in my bones coz that was EXACTLY what the group I was wish put our tour company through.

I forgot that straight from the first/second meeting SRK is letting his professional face slip.

When I first saw Sejal/Anushka I thought she looked like such a dork. It took me at least two full movie watches to realize she was beautiful.

I love how Sejal has a slight tremor in her voice when she comes out. She clearly was crying before coming out.

Harry: Wasn’t your whole family here on the trip
Sejal: No that wasn’t even half my family.
Such Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi vibes haha.

I love this character so much, I keep thinking how gorgeous Harry is. Just can’t believe this movie is still called a flop.

Hey, at least we can confidently make it a cult classic here and try to convert everyone we know to the brilliance of this film, and if it does get the recognition it deserves later on, then we can just be satisfied in knowing that we were there first. Like Dil Se.

The offline across the boobs – I read that her fashion was fantastic in this movie but I don’t see it.

It’s fantastic for her character! She is so airheaded and in her own world here, absolutely “offline”.

It seems very tomboy-ish until she decides to branch out and figure out what she likes actually likes to wear. It kind of reminds me of my fashion evolution in college.

I seriously need to make a bucket list to go to all the places they go to in this film, from the Netherlands to Prague to Portugal

Prague is amazing, even more gorgeous than it appears in this film. I want to go to Portugal, but I feel like I’ve been to the Netherlands jus based on this film!

They play off eachother so well. SRK, the known overactor, and Anushka here, just over – the -top, but so well done she seems like a clueless tourist.

God, thank goodness for the costume designer in this film for not only making brilliant character costume choices but also making Shahrukh look HOT AS HELL

I guess he can’t flirt in real life at all, but he sure does well as an ACTOR acting sexy!

Ok I love how Sejal’s name as a metaphor includes Harry not wanting to know its meaning yet it gets reinforced throughout the film. (It means “river water” or “pure flowing water”).

I hate Anushka’s stupid child sleeping t-shirt and shorts, I hate that in these child-like clothes Harry’s lust first becomes apparent. I mean it makes sense, her body is exposed, and he lusts for the female body. He doesn’t even know her yet. But I just hate that t-shirt.

HA! I just said I like them. I am pretty sure I own lots and lots of similar pajamas even now. I hate LONG pangs. And I keep t-shirts until they are basically tattered because they become so soft!

It’s not just that her trust is cleansing, it gives him a different kind of test. He is alone, in a hotel room, with the door closed, and he is discovering that he won’t do anything wrong in that situation. He can trust himself.

I wonder if the indemnity bond scene did what it needed to do in that it revealed to Harry how incredibly innocent she is? Which gave her a better protection than any paper would be? The scenes before this, she could have been an experienced woman who would enjoy a flirtation, all he knew was that she was a brat and angry. But this scene says “yeah, nothing is going to happen” and he is all relaxed afterwards.

Yeah he even tells Mayank: “tharki nahi, ullu hai” – she’s not horny, she’s just a fool.

Ok thing that struck me – she speaks about Rupen’s family holding this ring thing against her for the rest of their married life. Just in case we don’t get how terrible her future with him would be if she went along.

I take it as a sign that she isn’t quite as clueless as she appears. Sure she is loud and bossy, but she does understand how people work. And she doesn’t want to be treated badly. She has a strong sense of self worth. Exactly what Harry doesn’t have.

I like how Harry is already on her side against Rupen, including that “why isn’t he here with you?” line. Feels partly that he is in love, but also that he is just a decent person and this is a wrong way to treat her, no matter how irritating he is finding her.

The fact that no one got off the plane with her is a sure sign that she isn’t valued by her family. I may not think Amersterdam is dangerous, but I wouldn’t leave a family member alone who has NEVER been alone in a foreign city before.
