Oh my, I forgot the time change. And then I remembered. And more importantly, my phone remembered, so I am actually awake.
Jaane Tu….Ya Jaane Na
Back when nepotism was exciting and not unfair, we were all super pumped about Aamir Khan’s nephew being launched. And he was cute! And funny! And super super charming!!! And the whole freakin’ movie was super super charming too. Watch it with me and be charmed. Oh, and it’s on Netflix.

At 7:30am Chicago time, I’ll put up an “And PLAY” comment here and we will start together and keep commenting!
I forgot about the time change too, and was nearly an hour late!

Interpretation I read somewhere, maybe in an interview with the director, Bombs and the dude both have a crush on Aditi and Jai. They fall into their relationship by accident but then it turns into something real.

And it’s a great contrast to the central couple. Who fall in love before they get together. That is, move too slow instead of too fast.

Except for his MASSIVE Aditi blind spot. In fact, that’s where he is so evolved that he makes a mistake, he hides from the uncontrolled emotions.

I kind of get it though. It’s tough for childhood friends to think of the other person as a romantic partner. I had a similarly close friend and everyone always asked why we weren’t together and the thought of that was just so weird.

Genevieve, to catch you up, in the present day this same group of friends is at the airport telling a new friend this story. In the past, they have just finished college. Our hero and heroine have been super close best friends this whole time and everyone thought they were together, but they are all “we are just friends”. Because they are DUMB.

To be fair to them, they really are wonderful friends to each other. They understand each other, they care for each other, they support each other.
Also, the guy is sensitive and evolved and the girl is fiesty and independent.

Watching the parents assume he was coming to ask for her hand in marriage and their deal to find each other a romantic partner AND the fact that I’ve read a discussion of the movie before gives me the idea. I came in at the right time! Now I get to see his entertaining meeting of a competetive love interest!

The only “plot” thing you missed is their friends getting together in a very drunken confusion way. Bombs and whats-his-face are enjoying “dating” but also still clearly have crushes on Jai and Aditi.

Uff, Genelia is so great in this. I remember when it came out thinking she was this amazing undiscovered talent. And now I know that she had been acting since she was 15, just in southern films, and was already lowkey dating Ritiesh Deshmukh. I wish she’d acted more because she is SO good. But at the same time, she seems really really happy in life.

I am glad I discovered her southern stuff though, because she got way more fun roles in silly southern movies than she would get in Hindi.

Aw, I remember when my friend started dating her wife and wasn’t around as much! And now it’s 10 years later and we own a house together. So I guess that’s another way Genelia and Jai and MEghna could have gone!

Gonna get deep and analytical for a moment. There’s a normal “my best friend fell in love and isn’t around” feeling. But what makes this worse for Aditi is that Jai is her one and only, not just a normal friendship. Because they are secretly in love. It’s not jealousy, it’s that there is no replacement for that closeness, it’s not like she can fill the gap with other friends. So it’s a similar feeling to normal missing a friend when they fall in love, but like way way worse.

I think she needed to go through this to come into her feelings. Again to me, its tough when you have grown up together and are so close. They have always been there for each other. Especially, Imraan. He has always gone to Aditi the minute she needed something (first scene of the movie). It’s easy to take that for granted. I love how this movie shows Genelia and Imraan come to understand their own feelings and show the evolution from friendship to love.
