Happy Friday! Another week accomplished. And it was Valentine’s Week! So I thought my TGIF post should be a little bit romantic this week. Which for me means photos of couples in love.
Okay, sure, it was infidelity and selfish and life ruining and all that. But look how cute Raj and Nargis are together!
With their little cricket trophies:

And Cecil B. DeMille:

And a cigarette:
On the other hand, Nargis was also awfully cute with her eventual real legitimate respectable husband too, Sunil Dutt:

Here’s another one, with the two of them and a flower:

Speaking of Golden Age Heroes, how about Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar? 20 year age gap, and barely knew each other before marriage, but still so cute!

Right from the start!

Through to today (awwwww!):

Complete opposite of that, a couple that knew each other well for years before marriage and had hardly any age gap at all, Jaya and Amitji! I love their early courtship photos:

And their young family photos too (baby Abhishek and Shweta are so cute!):

And their wedding photos. Also, is it just me, or is Jaya just stunningly beautiful in candid photos?

Even today, just so pretty when she doesn’t even know the camera is on her!

I can’t leave the 70s without also acknowledging The Best Kapoor and his wife, Shashi and Jennifer. Check them out, super young and innocent and in love:

And then a couple years later, all happy with their two babies that they couldn’t afford:

And then a few years after that, with their last baby completing the family:

Okay, the 70s weren’t a good time for anyone, fashion wise. But I still think it looks like a nice family! And Karan already has his model glower down.

But, if you cut out the fashion and just look at the faces, man they were a gorgeous older couple!

For the 80s, my absolute favorite real-life-couple photo is this one. It’s not even a photo, it’s a still from the “Papa Kehte Hai” song in QSQT. Aamir brought his new bride Reena on set and she was an extra he sang to for about 5 seconds. What I love is that Aamir is being all sincere and in character, and Reena cannot stop laughing at him!

The 90s, of course, are all about Shahrukh and Gauri! Such a smart career move on his part to make her part of all his public appearances. Especially in the early years, where they felt more like some college sweetheart couple than a glamorous film power couple.

And then Aryan came along and they turned into world’s most lovable young family:

(Love the new mom realness of Gauri’s no make up and sweatshirt look)
By the time Suhana came along, they had either learned how to be parents and still glamorous, or else had learned not to allow photos without a ton of prep time, because this family looks a lot more put together!

(Okay, the kids are bored, but kids are always bored in photos)
And with their last tagalong child, they are old enough and experienced enough, they can parent with perfect hair and smiles and drinks in their hands:
But mostly, I love them because they always have that kind of breezy happy perfect life vibe to them, you know? Like the golden couple from high school that everyone always kind of envied and loved at the same time. From their early years:

Straight through to today:

Starting in 2000, we had my new favorite couple (post their Koffee appearance), Akshay and Twinkle!
First, from back in the early floppy hair courtship era:

Okay, this is just to prove that it is possible for them to take a bad photo. But really, everyone is kind of out of it at their wedding, right?

Here’s a better picture from the same night:

After marriage, just a casual incredibly attractive family going for a walk:

Here they are being attractive in hats:

Holding hands at an awards show (awwww!)

And of course, sexiest possible, making each other laugh!

Karan complains in his book that the new stars are all about Privacy, we don’t feel like we know them the same way any more. And boy, is he right! The only modern couple I could think of that has the same high number of candid couple-y shots (not just posed things, or blurry photos as they go into parties), is Ranveer and Deepika. Have I mentioned that I will be heartbroken if they ever break up? I will!

Oh! One more! I love Dr. Nene and Madhuri together. His face always has such a great “I’m married to Madhuri Dixit!” expression.
