I feel bad only giving her a dozen, but on the other hand I am also taking time from visiting my sister to write this post, and using my sister’s stupid mac computer to do it (the mouse only has one button! What is this MADNESS!), so that should count for something. Oh well, next year I will give her 2 dozen reasons to make up for it.
1.1. I love you because you were a Miss India winner back before Miss Indias started to look like Barbie dolls (tall, thin, high cheekbone) instead of classical Indian paintings (round, round, round).

2. I love you because you were only 16 when you won Miss India, and only 18 when you started your film career.
3. I love you because your first big hit film took advantage of your youthful looks. You were 20 while filming Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and 21 when it came out, but still looked like a teenager, making the teenage love story that much more endearing.
4. I love you because no one can watch this song and not fall in love with you!
5. I love you because you made one brilliant movie with Aamir, and then a bunch of bad bad bad movies with him. Proving that a hit jodi does not necessarily mean a good film!
6. Although one of those bad bad movies is my all time favorite “so bad it’s good” film.
7. I love you because you weren’t restricted to Aamir films, through out the 90s you starred in a whole variety of movies and were known as a friendly professional and always charming onscreen actress.
8. I love you because you married a nice businessman type, not one of the many actors you were rumored to be dating (up to and including Rishi Kapoor!) and went on to have a nice family life.
9. I love you because your personal life was filled with tragedy at the same time you managed to be so bubbly onscreen, your mother dying in an accident while accompanying you on a shoot in Prague, and your brother (and CEO of Red Chillies) lingering in a coma for 4 years before dying.
10. I love you because you were one of Shahrukh’s first co-stars, forming a bond which would lead you to being business partners to this day.
11. I love you because in your second innings of a career, you moved on to production, public appearances, and interesting art (My Brother Nikhil) and children films (Bhootnath, etc.), along with playing the older sister or married woman in the occasional mainstream film (Paheli, etc.), a much more dignified and interesting career path than merely playing the innocent young heroine well past an age when that would be believable, or retiring completely and becoming “just” a wife and mother.
(All of Jhankaar Beats is good and Juhi is easily the best part of it)
12. I love you because, well, you are the best!

I can’t find it with English subtitles! There’s a video shop that one of my husband’s coworkers recommended that I need to check out. But online, nada.

Local shop is always best, but if that fails you, there is a website “einthusan.com” that has pretty much everything. It’s illegal-ish, but specializes in films that aren’t streaming anywhere else so no one challenges their copyright, Oh, and us.hotstar.com is the absolute best legal streaming site. Only $10 a month, library of over 400 Hindi films alone, along with TV shows and everything else, you can see every Aamir TV interview ever.

I think the only Juhi Chawla film I’ve seen so far is Darr and her cameo in Chandni. I’ve looked everywhere but I’ve never found both Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Yes Boss with subtitles.

Definitely check out QSQT. She’s adorable in that. And I like that she’s the one pursuing Aamir initially rather than the other way around.

Sure! I really like romances that are like that.

I just remembered that I saw Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke. It’s a really cute movie with Aamir and Juhi Chawla! You should definitely check it out if you haven’t already. It’s a fun and light 90s movie.

I just checked Netflix. Looks like they only have One 2 Ka 4. Which is a Juhi movie, not a great one, but it’s there and it’s easy. And then have Ram-Jaane which is a terrible terrible movie and you shouldn’t waste your time on it 🙂

I’ve seen that One 2 Ka 4 is on netflix but I never wanted to watch it partly because of the runtime.

Yeah, there are a lot of reasons to like Juhi 🙂
When we talked about her profession she told me that she would always play herself, but that withShahRukh he would make her play it better…
In any way, I like her pairing…it fits to the movies they did together. There is not one of their interactions I would like to imagine with another actress.
I’ve watched her in movies with other actors, very early ones and recent ones. She is really a reliable actress.

When did you speak with Juhi? That sounds amazing!

Juhi was part of the director Onir’s movie “I am” and we had a small Onir-festival in a town near the village I live (with the director, Juhi and two other actors present). So I went there, met Juhi and had a talk with her.

Thank you for doing a Juhi post even though you had to use your sister’s Mac! She is one of my favorite Hindi movie actresses (though I understand she’s done other regional movies as well). And she and Shah Rukh are my favorite jodi. Even though she’s the “straight man” here, I love this bit.

Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman is in my top 5 Shah Rukh films. And Juhi makes One 2 Ka 4 worth watching (well, along with the AR Rahman songs). Like JHMS, if you watch One 2 Ka 4 as her story more than Shah Rukh’s, it becomes a more interesting movie. I also like Ram Jaane–can’t help myself. But I do watch an abbreviated version!
I really need to see QSQT. And is she also in Andaz Apna Apna? I think I found Yes Boss with subtitles on Daily Motion. And then I bought it. 🙂

Andaz Apna Apna is Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor. But Juhi and Aamir are in Ishq together, which is TERRIBLE!!! I also highly recommend Jhankaar Beats, especially now that you have seen enough movies to get some of the in jokes. And then Tum Mere How is even worse, but very amusing.

I don’t get the hate for Ishq (a lot of other people also hate it). I thought the first half was very funny, and the second half was the standard melodrama.
Another fun Juhi movie (with SRK and Sonali Bendre) is Duplicate.

Ishq was such a hit with schoolkids and college freshers. My friends dragged me to watch it back then and I sighed all through it. I was banned from going to the films with them for a while after that. I didnt find it funny till I watched it stoned (in college) and my friends were like “see, we told you it was funny” and I was like “yes, these greasy bakery chips are the best food ever!”

My mother sighs in movies. It is the worst. I would ban you too!

Well it was 1998, we were in 8th standard and i was already 6 years into hollywood films and it was Ishq!!!

13/14, right? Okay, that’s fair, 13/14 year old girls have very very high standards. Meanwhile, I was on the other side of the world sighing my way through Cyrano De Bergerac.

But it depends what kind “Hollywood films ” you were into then. Now one of the things I found hilarious (I was considerably older than 14 🙂 ) was the James Bond spoof with the monkey. 🙂

Cyrano de Bergerac movie with Gérard Dépardieu???!!! I saw the theatre play with Belmondo in Paris and loved the movie…

Yep! My Mom was watching it and I was sighing and rolling my eyes all over the place. I was deep into watching Doris Day and other old hollywood films.

She has a cameo right at the beginning of Andaz Apna Apna so if you just want to see Juhi watch the first five minutes of the film.

Oh, and if someone wants to round out Juhi’s films with all three Khans, they can watch Deewana Mastana, where Salman has a cameo appearance.

She along with Sridevi and Madhuri made up the three goddesses of the 90s.She always looked so fun and mischievous especially with Aamir and Shahrukh. But QSQT was boring mainly because I was too young for romance at that time.Compared to Ram Lakhan which had revenge, drama and energetic Anil Kapoor poor QSQT had no chance.

Maybe I was too old for romance (no, not really 😉 ), but QSQT had become a one-time watch just because it was such a popular movie and is always cited when it comes to Aamir…I was bored, too…(although I liked Juhi’s freshness)
