Happy Madhuri’s birthday week (again)! I tried to come up with something clever and original, and all I can come up with is a bunch of photos of Madhuri, which isn’t clever or original at all. Oh well, she was very pretty.
Madhuri is just shockingly photogenic, and has managed to pull off many very questionable photo shoots, everything from short hair to Sanjay Dutt. I will throw together a selection of them and we can pick our favorites (questions at the end)

A tie for me, between Madhuri-dog (that dog looks so unhappy, and you should not be playing with it while wearing an evening gown)
And Madhuri Short Hair. Some people are just not meant for short hair.
Final question! Which Madhuri photo best captures something you wish you felt?
Tie again! I love Madhuri’s happy confidence in the Belly-Button photo (I don’t know that I have ever shown off my belly-button like that)
But I also love her calm contentment in the Old Anil photo. I want to hug Old Anil too!

Old Anil one is the best. Considering the kind of photo shoots that were the rage in the 90s Madhuri’s ones seem positively tame!

Oh, I avoided some of the less tame options!!! And also a photoshoot of her with Kumar Gaurav dressed primarily in denim.
I love her with old Anil too, I really hope the rumors of them co-starring again pan out.

Their chemistry seems to be better in real life than in movies. Would so love to see them together in a mature romance. Or a noir murder mystery. He could play a Bogey type private eye, and she would be a much more age-appropriate Lauren Bacall femme fatale type. Or even a comedy noir, like “The Cheap Detective” with Peter Falk and Louise Fletcher.
To answer your questions, the one I’d most like to have in a frame is Madhuri and Dr. Nene. Just to remind myself that true love exists.
Struggling to pull off a terrible concept: it’s a tie for me between 80’s hat with veil and giant earrings, and arm buckle dress. Though her legs look great in the buckle dress. I kind of love Madhuri and the collie, both glamour pusses in their own right.
Best captures something I wish I felt: surprising myself by going with the Madhuri and Salman photo. It’s a sweet private moment, humorous and affectionate with a bit of va va va voom. A nice combo of feelings. And she looks great in that color!

that Salman photo is surprisingly nice. Going back to what we have talked about a lot, how Madhuri and Shahrukh are both sort of too dominating in how they attack the camera to have good onscreen chemistry, I think the reverse might be why she works so well with Salman. He (despite his macho persona nowadays) always sort of lets the camera come to him, hides his eyes or ducks his head. And I think this still really catches that, he is so shy and happy with her, and she is still so glittering and beautiful.

My fav is Maduri plus puppy.
The lighting, the setting, the clothes, the hair, even the wrinkles on her face, it’s all so fresh, natural, understated, relaxed, simple.
Anil seems to bring out the vulnerable in her, because my second and third place would be her photos with young Anil and old Anil, respectively. How interesting and raw she looks in the young Anil photo.
The one with too much jewelry really shows off her dancer’s hands and face.
Finally, that particular short haircut wouldn’t look good on anyone. But also, most(?) South Asians have thick hair (many strands plus thick strands), which ends up making short hair look like a helmet.

You made me go back and look at the two Anil photos again. they feel strikingly similar, now that you have pointed it out, In both of them Madhuri looks so relaxed somehow, while Anil is strangely confident, like he is projecting confidence so she doesn’t have to.
I am distracted now wondering if that is Madhuri’s real hair or a wig. It’s got to be a wig, right? Because we would have noticed if her hair was that short and it would have taken forever to grow out.

There was an interview I read ages ago (which I am sure I have mentioned here before) with a photographer talking about the first time he took a picture of Madhuri. He went to her house and this beautiful woman opened the door and he thought sure it was the starlet he had been sent to photograph. And then she said, “no no, that’s my sister” and this really boring bland little teenager came downstairs and he thought “her?” But he did the shoot, because it was his job. And then he developed the photos and suddenly was looking at the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She just came alive on camera.
Anyway, I am also taking your comment as another vote for the Salman photo 🙂 Because she looks stunningly beautiful in that over the shoulder way and Salman looks so sweet.
