Votes Needed! Should I Do an SRK Birthday Month, Yes Or No? (Also, remember to register to vote if you are in America)

I need your opinions!  I need to make a blog scheduling decision soon and I don’t know what the preference of the readers is.  So, get ready to answer a poll!  I thought this would be a good day for it since it is also Voter Registration Day in America (REGISTER TO VOTE or CHECK YOUR VOTING STATUS).

As I am sure we are all aware, November 2 is coming up, the international holiday that is SHAHRUKH’S BIRTHDAY, YAAAAAY!!!!!!

Traditionally, I do a run up of posts, I think it was 2 weeks the first year and then a month last year.  I keep up my regular schedule of posts, I just throw in a quick SRK themed post every day in addition (top 20 bad costumes, top 10 hair styles, and so on).

Last year was quite festive since we were all in the Jab Harry Met Sejal hangover and looking for new SRK content.  But this year SRK has been laying low and so have my SRK commentators, so I’m not sure if folks here are that interested in him any more.

So, here are your options! Tell me in the comments which you prefer, with or without explanation:

  • Full Month like last year

  • Only 2 weeks

  • SRK themed TGIF and Classics and FanFic posts every week in October but nothing else

  • Nothing special, just a birthday post like everyone else gets

I will take into account both number of votes and also passion.  So if you really really care A LOT, tell me about it.

And if no one even cares enough to respond to this post, that also answers the question and I should clearly go with option 4.

(If you are new to the blog, so you have an idea of the kind and quality of content this would be, I did a TGIF post called “13 Reasons SRK Might Be a Vampire” and I also did an intensive post called “9 Reasons I Love SRK” that got into his star persona and politics and everything else.  So it’s part candy and part substance)

    • You are so nice! And I also appreciate knowing that as a non-SRK fan you can still enjoy my posts on him. Actually, I appreciate knowing as a non-SRK fan you READ my posts. That’s what I find most irritating about the Birthday Month, I am doing really really good work in a lot of those posts and I’m not sure if they are being read by non-SRK people or just being dismissed as “Margaret’s obsession”.

  1. Can you do a few reviews of SRK movies that you’ve maybe missed? Jab Tak Hai Jaan (I know it’s a terrible movie but he was good!), Dil To Pagal hai etc?

    • Yeah, I could do 4 Friday Classics in a row that were all SRK and maybe a couple other reviews scattered in through out October. I think I did that last October, along with my listicles. I’ll be doing at least two new SRK reviews on his birthday itself anyway.

        • I haven’t, that sounds fun!

I am guessing the birthday itself will be what starts off the Zero promotions. Probably the trailer or a song or something released on the day, definitely the usual flood of coverage will be taken advantage of for interviews and teasers and posters and stuff within the next few days.

          • This one:

I don’t watch Indian TV, so I’m not entirely sure but it does feel different from the ads he usually does.

          • You temptress! You got me to watch a video at work.

I think you may be right. He usually plays a version of himself in ads I think? Cool Shahrukh or flustered Shahrukh or Movie Star Shahrukh. But this has him playing real characters and then turning into Cool Movie Star Shahrukh at the end.

Or maybe not, I don’t watch Indian TV either!

    • Would you vote for just a few new SRK reviews, or a full month with a post each day? If you could have anything in the world.

  2. You are the Queen of the blog so you decide, but if I can say something, I prefer new stuff: TGIF posts about him (or mainly him) , friday classics and maybe some other random things, like changing the header.

    Like

    • So, the 3rd option, random stuff off and on, but not an every day thing.

I like the banner idea, that’s easy for me to do and fun and hopefully won’t affect the non-SRKians too much.

  3. I like film reviews and and I like analysis posts, so if I were your only reader, and if you had all the money in the world, that’s what I’d vote for you to write re SRK during SRK month. You could also rerun analysis posts like your SRK-Feminism or SRK-branding posts.

But you should do whatever your heart desires, this is your month to go wild, plus do whatever gets you clicks, new readers, and repeat readers.

    • Such freedom! This is fun, all of you giving me carte blanche to think about what I really really want to do.

    • But inspiration is so hard to chase! It doesn’t always arrive at the right time. Hmmm, I’ll think about it. I could probably be inspired for one Shahrukh themed post of some kind, even if it is something simple like “look at this cute SRK photo I found” every day, that might be fun without feeling burdensome.

  4. I can’t seem to post on my phone or iPad. So frustrating. You know I love all Shah Ruk all the time but do what makes You happy.

  5. Do whatever you feel you have time to do. Don’t feel pressured to start something only to find yourself running out of steam and wishing you hadn’t committed to it in the first place.

    • Oh my gosh, I need to get that advice embroidered and put up on the wall. I do that soooooooooooooo much. Especially with Christmas gifts.

  6. Dear Margaret; do as your hart asks Every Day of SRK month!
From cute lover boy to a man committed to social needs; from an image obsessed superstar to the philanthropic care of the destitute; from the devilish young dancer to the man dealing with the limitations of pain and physical injuries but always giving his best as an actor.
A genuine feminist, respectful of all religious creeds (from DDLJ to Rab ne Bana de Jodi ) to a sincere pacifist in a country that still bleeds from the wounds of partition, (from Dil Se to Chack de India) to a deep understanding of the NRI nostalgia (from Swades to Jab Harry met Sejal)
SRK is a very complex machinery and even for those who don’t particularly like him you can shed light on the more controversial aspects of a great artist and a deeply conflicted man.

    • That’s the hope, but then I fear the non-SRKians often just don’t read the birthday posts, no matter how much work I put into them. Anyway, based on your opening I will take this as another “do whatever you want” vote.

  7. I would normally come down on a “Full Month like last year,” vote but, in the spirit of the other voters, I’ll say do what YOU want. (With a whispered aside – please review Koyla.)

    • Well the end decision was little posts like the one today and a full review of an SRK movie I haven’t covered before every Wednesday. You can check the homepage for the review schedule.
