This should be a fun post for all of us to vent our ire! Movies always make mothers out to be these wise understanding people who we should forgive, no matter what. And so many of them are SO BAD!!!!
Let’s see, what mothers do I dislike the most? Just off the top of my head:
Ratna Pathak in Kapoor & Sons: She ruins her oldest son by living through him until he is afraid to tell her anything real about his life, just the happy acceptable parts. And she ruins her youngest son by making it clear she has no expectations for him and will give over everything he wants to his older brother.

Asoka’s Mother: First, she is so weak that she can’t protect her children in the royal household. Second, she blackmails her son by threatening a vow of silence until he agrees to leave the kingdom instead of fighting for his rights. And third, she lies about being sick to force her son to rush back (after she sent him away to begin with!) thereby making him leave his new wife and ruining his life.

Jodha’s Mother: First, she makes her daughter terrified of her new husband (who seems like a perfectly reasonable person). Second, she suggests that her daughter should kill herself to avoid the marriage. And third, when it is pointed out that this might be a bad diplomatic move, she still packs the poison in her daughter’s bag! Oh right, and then fourth, when her son-in-law comes for a post-marriage visit, she is all smilely and welcoming and even puts the marriage couple in the same room. This woman has no common sense!
Okay, who are your disliked mothers?
Ratna Pathak in Kapoor and sons is hard to beat – so despicable!
I also absolutely hated Alka Amin in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana – she was the main reason of all the bad things that happened to her son and her family (because first she demanded too much dowry, and if it wasn’t enough she decided her daughter in law can’t work, so the girl escaped), but she acted like she is the victim. I haven’t detested a character so much since ages.
Later I saw the same actress playing SSR’s mother in Kedarnath and I immediately knew she will be over the top and too much. And in fact she wanted to set herself on fire!
From newer ones – Sonakshi Sinha’s mother in Khandaani Shafakhana. She was so stupid.

Thank you! Another Ratna hater!
Ugh, Sonakshi’s mother in KS! She was limiting her daughter so much and it was so hard to break free without hurting her feelings.

I was so happy when Sonakshi’s mother took her stuff and disappeared. Like it should be sad moment but it was such a relief.

YES! UGH, she was HORRIBLE. And you know she was part of the reason her son killed himself, couldn’t face not being perfect in his mother’s eyes. Whether that meant telling her the truth about his situation, or just getting treatment for depression, his mother wouldn’t have allowed it. And then doing the same thing to her grandson, teaching him to believe he was perfect. Not even touching on her abuse of her granddaughter, just the “love” she gave her son and grandson was bad enough. I’m almost mad at Jaya too just for letting this horrible woman stay in her childrens’ lives, but I guess I can forgive that.

Jaya in K3G was also a pretty terrible mom…first she never gave the same love to the younger son…then she allowed her husband to kick out the older son…and then spent the rest of the movie crying in dark rooms…literally at any point she could have stood up for her sons or for herself…her one speech at the end was like the bare minimum before she went back to brooding

Let’s also have a moment for Jaya as a bad wife! I mean, Amitabh was a horrible husband, we can all agree on that, making unilateral decisions for them as a couple all over the place. But Jaya’s reaction of passive aggressive silence and occasional snide jabs was also not the best.

K3G is just a cringe-fest with terrible characters. Karan Johar excels in making the worst movies.

Sorry. I’m just in a bad mood because I had to sit through an hour of SOTY2 because of my mom. Thankfully, even she had enough after about an hour of that nonsense.
But Johar is still the worst.

How I could forget about the mother in Mogra Phulaalaa. She was the worst. She treated her 40 y/o son like a child, decided about everything in his life (school, career, work, underwear), has been searching for a wife for him for years, but deep inside everybody knew she doesn’t want him to marry. She treated badly other son and his pregnant wife (only because they married without her consent). When her favourite son felt in love she made the most over the top blackmail scene ever and forced him to leave his girlfriend. In the end she allowed them to marry but I’m sure she will make their life hell.

Yes, don’t watch it. It’s almost 3 hours long tale about a man without any spine and his controling mother. And obviously the mother is terrible and everybody knows it, but it’s a mother (at least not the father for once) so she must be forgiven in the end.
