Inspired by Shahrukh learning guitar, I think we have to decide, as a collective, the answer to this important question. Is the guitar the sexiest instrument, or is it something else?
Some suggestions:
Saxophone
Drums
Piano
Guitar
Trumpet
Something else?
Which, in your mind, is sexiest?
Follow up question, if you pick guitar, acoustic or electric?

1. Violin – difficult to play, sounds divine with its varying moods and looks just awesome. Also, lost opportunity to put SRK in Mohabbattein as a picture for it.
2. Drums – the one used with hands, the true rhythm maker for sexy or free dancing music
3. Piano – Have you seen the new Emma that is on rent now? In it a is a scene where Jane Fairfax playing the piano made the ladies start fanning themselves, and good piano playing is exactly that
4. Saxophone – it is hard not to associate it with sexiness since it has been used so much to imply it

I can see the violin I suppose, but it always feels a little too poetic to be sexy to me.
Drums played by hand, definitely!
Piano, for me only if it is played with a lot of passionate energy, not just tiddling around.
And I guess we have all be brainwashed into the saxophone.

Next is piano, for the same reasons Kirre gave for the violin. With or without singing. Also nice for all the times in movies when someone kisses someone’s neck or hugs them from behind while playing piano. Like at 2 mins into this song. Which I find really sexy, or hilarious, depending on my mood. I mean, just have sex–why throw all the food around? Who has to clean that up? 🙂
I also think a muted trumpet, sort of film noire style, is sexy.
Guitar and sax are just too stereotyped. Violin is nice but can quickly start sounding over-dramatic to me.
Minus 50 sexy points though, for anyone fake playing any instrument. It’s just the worst.

I will stick w acoustic guitar as sexiest followed by timpani (followed by drum set!) My first love (still good friends) was (still is) a percussionist and I have so many sweet memories of being in the dark empty theater watching Juilliard pre-college division rehearsals and then sneaking away to kiss surreptitiously in corridors worried about getting caught. Ah, 16!

Ooo, DTPH must be all for you. And have you seen Zindaggi Rocks with Sush? It’s not that good of a movie, but loads of scenes of her playing guitar, if you are into that kind of thing.

the guitar becomes a sexy intrument for me when played by someone who also uses it as a drum (like in Hispanic folk music)…this combination is just overwhelming for me 🙂
In the video, I really liked ShahRukh to play an instrument…in the movies I know it’s an act, the instrument is just a prop, so no emotional involvement from my side…except for the piano act in DDLJ, the Challa song (he really took lessons to make it more believable) and the drumming in Koyla (so much angry passion!…THAT was sexy).

In terms of actual music produced, I think saxophone for obvious reasons, followed closely by acoustic guitar. But in terms of “if a man plays an instrument, which instrument should he play to make him the sexiest”, guitar. Electric or acoustic, I don’t care THAT much, but acoustic does have a slight edge for me.

For the sexiest instrument – no opinion. But I do have an opinion for the absolute least sexy instrument – trumpet. My oldest son plays the trumpet. I love my son, and I hate that instrument. I can’t wait till this next fall, when we stop paying for preschool and can pay for piano lessons, I’m not sure the piano is sexy, but it has got to be better than the trumpet.

I also need to state that my husband plays the guitar, a lot. It is super sexy when we are camping. It is not so sexy when dishes need to done. He also does the dishes, he is totally hot doing the dishes.

I join the many women on this thread who’ve dated a guitar player, and it was pretty sexy but men tend to make unsexy faces (i.e. biting the lower lip) when playing it. Also, only blues guitar is sexy, because my dad was a classical guitarist so that ruins that. I’m from New Orleans and have seen trumpets and saxophones played live my whole life, and it’s basically sexy until you have to bang the spit out of them.
