Watch Student of the Year With Me Here in 30 Minutes!

Woo-hoo! In 30 minutes, 3pm Chicago time, I will start commenting on this post as I watch the film and you can comment along with me.

Reminder! SOTY is only available on the ErosNow Prime channel, which is HORRIBLE. Instead of subscribing to it (faulty subtitles, movies that don’t play, really not worth it), you can just rent the movie on youtube from the link below for $2.99. Or on googleplay, same price.

See you all right here in half an hour!

  1. It’s all this bit, with Varun in yellow, outside Sid’s house, outside the hospital, that HUG, the way Varun is tenderly stroking the back of Sid’s head. This is when I really think they should have kissed.

    • I am starting to seriously love this romance more than War. How is that possible?! I think because it’s a double romance between Sid and Varun and Sid and Alia. SO MUCH ROMANCE!!

    • That’s what I was thinking! Hug, have the house to themselves while everyone else is at the hospital, and then go over to the hospital the next day after making love and holding each other all night.

  2. I don’t think Sid would respond well to a love making attempt if one of the few family members who cares about him is dying. I’m thinking more Varun comforting him, kissing his forehead a lot, wiping his tears, lots of soft, quiet cuddling.

  3. Maybe later, sometime during the Ishq Wala Love sequence (I also don’t like this song btw), after he has the support of his friends around him, he’d make love as comfort.

  4. Alia’s belt on the pink dress is hideous. To a degree that makes me think the dress must not have fitted and they had to put it on last minute.

  5. I have to mention Alia’s makeup too, throughout the whole movie. It’s not good. Her lipstick is always too close to her skintone. It doesn’t make her look good.

    • Yes! And something is wrong with her eye make-up. I don’t know what, but her eyes look smaller in this movie than in any other I’ve seen, so something isn’t good.

      • Mascara maybe? Eyeliner? I’m just noticing she has eyeliner on her bottom lash line, which usually makes the eye smaller. I think.

    • That’s actually realistic. I can think of a few students of mine, around 15 years old with scruff. Not full beards, but enough to show they’re trying.

  6. Okay but has Varun been betrayed by Alia or Sid? I was trying to focus on the direction of his eyes, but he’s not really focused on either one of them.

  7. See, it was this scene that hit me. Again, it’s a teen movie, but if it wanted to, it could have really explored a lot more issues about class and passion and drive. Both of them falling in love with Alia was just the straw that broke the camel’s back to drive a wedge between them.
I also love Alia’s response to all of this in a minute.

  8. This fight scene was another one, where is Alia wasn’t standing there, I would have expected Varun and Sid to end up passionately making out.

  9. Here we go, back to sexual tension. I wouldn’t be surprised if they still fooled around during this time. A lot of hate sex, and actually using the word “sex” rather than “making love”. It’s not love anymore.

    • Totally! High school is weird, hormones are out of control. Also, this is when Alia gets so sick of men she starts fooling around with Shruti but not meaning anything by it.

  10. When she rubbed her hand down his chest – I have a hard time watching people touch unwilling others on screen, usually it is a man running his fingers on an item dancers leg or something like that, I hate it. This might have been the first time I’ve had that reaction to a woman touching a man.

      • That’s why she needs to be seduced by Shruti and then go into intensive therapy and realize she was gay along and never had a healthy self-image or relationship with men.

  11. Okay. Maybe it’s just me, but this movie and Sid’s dancing gave me some distinct early Amitabh vibes. I just see so many similarities!

    • Also int aht last movie, I noticed that VArun has a dancers butt, and Sid not so much.
