Happy Monday before May Day! When most people will celebrate Labor, and my family will celebrate the pagan spring festival by giving away flowers (Mom can’t get real flowers this year so she is going to make them out of buttons and pipe stem cleaners). Anyway, a fun week!

Now, question for you! A very silly one, it’s Samantha Akkineni’s birthday tomorrow, which of her wedding dresses do we like best?
Personally, I still love the Christian style dress. So subtle! So pretty! So young! Although the cream sari from the engagement is also very nice. The family heirloom sari is fine but doesn’t knock my eye out. I hate the reception dress.

Have you seen this ridiculous twitter challenge Telugu actors and filmmakers are doing? #BeTheRealMan is the name and they show how they help to do chores. Everybody was doing something, ad then Vijay Devarakonda was nominated and he made the worst/ best video ever.
It made my day because he is so slow and doesn’t even pretend to do any work there.

I mean, I’m no one to judge, since moving in with my parents I have gotten used to dishes magically being done, laundry washed and folded once a week, bathroom always sparkling, and essentially my whole life taken care of for me by little elves. All I have to do is take care of the dog and put my dirty dishes in the sink. Basically I do less work around the house than your son is probably doing.

But the important thing is, he made me laugh and I needed it.
Being honest I also can’t judge him because I did a lot of cleaning only the first days of the lockdown. Later I thought: there is a dangerous virus out there, who cares if the toys are inside the boxes or windows clean? I don’t. Especially because I’m also a teacher for my son now, and it eats a lot of my time and energy. We are doing conditionals and subjunctive these days and it’s much more difficult in Italian than in English. More so I’ve never studied it so I must first learn and later try to explain it to him.

I watched Leave Her To Heaven and it was super nutty. I have probably found a copy of Laura though so that will be fun. Really the only films from the 40s I like are musicals, so after that I will move on to something else.

Isn’t Leave Her to Heaven Delightfully Nutty? If I didn’t hate Kangana so much, I would want to cast her in the remake.

Yeah it was nutty in an enjoyable way, but not as silly and over the top as I wanted. lol Kangana would be great for a remake. Shame it won’t happen.

Currently I am hooked on the Turkish thriller drama series, Cesur Ve Güzel. It has many of my favorite elements – a family where everybody has something to hide except the oblivious heroine who has to face the secrets of her loved ones, set in a small town where everything is owned by this family, the outsider hero comes in thirsting for revenge from the heroine’s father who may have killed the hero’s father. Of course they fall for each other, but can’t trust each other fully until the truth about the past comes out. There’s angst, sorrow, tenderness, solid acting, good music, the romance is pretty sexy, the leads are great! One of the first things that compelled me to check it out was the unique look of the lead actress: Tuba Büyüküstün. Very few people can pull off short hair – she’s gorgeous!

I’m half way through it, it’s pretty intense right now and don’t know how it’ll go, which is good! But also, I’m beginning to understand the experience of many of the readers here – watching content in an unknown language, having to constantly look at the screen for subtitles, getting frustrated with bad/ missing subtitles and being alone in experiencing this!

Ha! That’s amazing! I just made a date to watch it with a friend tonight over Netflix Party! I showed her B1 a couple weeks ago and we’ve been talking about seeing B2 since then and just randomly picked today. That’s cool!

Sadly, the world lost Irrfan Khan today.
I am definitely a fan of his work and tried to watch most things he was in. I think of him as standing for quality mainstream hindi cinema like Piku, Talvar, Paan Singh Tomar, Maqbool, Haider, life in a metro, Billu barber. Also he was the most prolific HW crossover artist of his age peers – Jurassic park series, salaam Bombay, the namesake, Slumdog millionaire, life of Pi, Darjeeling limited (my favorite Wes Anderson film), the Lunchbox, and HBO’s In Treatment. His loss will be felt and his presence will be missed. RIP.

It was terrible news to wake up to.
The funny thing is, when I try to think of what “Irrfan Khan movies” I have seen, I feel like I’ve seen nothing. Not The Lunchbox or Maqbool or the other big name stuff. But when I look at his filmography, I’ve seen so much! He did so much, was in so many movies, and usually not as the lead.
