Friday Watchalong: Jab Harry Met Sejal! Comment Along Right Here!

Woot! The DCIB favorite! Let’s see if we can think of new things to say, after many many posts, many many comments, and a previous watchalong on twitter.

First, Happy Birthday Rachel!!!! This is in her honor, and her movie choice, so yaaaaay! What a great party!

Second, Jab Harry Met Sejal! Woot woot! You can watch on Netflix, youtube, googleplay, or your own DVD. I’ll put the first comment below when it is time to start, and then you just comment along with any old thing that pops into your head.

  1. Omg were coming up to where he cried and had the flashback I love his acting here so much it makes me mad that people dont like the film

      • He’s homesick? It doesn’t quite work for me either, it feels more like a PTSD thing than a general depression thing.

      • I think he is coming out of the dream state where he sees the past and a glimpse of the future (Sejal’s dupatta over the fields) and he is missing home and imagining he can’t go back. And talking to himself to comfort himself like he wishes his mother could.

      • Too late, I gave him an honest yes. The 5-year-old has seen the movie enough that he wouldn’t even have to ask.(And the 8-year-old isn’t really watching, he is just popping in and out.

  2. I think Anushka decided for her European Tour, she would buy a lot of vests, because that is European. Thus this one, and the one in the gold romper scene. Or else the costume designer decided to subtly imply school uniforms and chunariyas and other youthful Indian girl things.

Also, I love the sunflower fabric and I want a skirt made of it.

    • Shahrukh does it too! He makes fun of what she might say, or someone else might say. The whole “two powerless people with similar safety mechanisms” theory is growing on me.

  3. Hawayein is just a lovely song. I mean the whole album is a star in itself, but this song is just a tiny bit something else just by the lyrics alone and what they mean to both of them.

  4. I still don’t like this scene, give me your reasons for accepting it! I just find Anushka out of character casual and insulting here, and shahrukh out of character patronizing.

    • Ok on pause. I also am slightly bothered by that scene. I think he comes clean too fast for someone so guarded.

      • And she reverts to cockiness too fast for someone who has been so curious.

    • I don’t think I realized how random it was until we paused and thus I thought wait – it goes from the cafe straight into Beech beech? How did I not realize how random that was in all the 30 other times I’ve seen this film?

  5. Oh, I’m having trouble with the comments – discovered the WordPress app so am not being asked to login each time but I don’t see new comments as they occur, have to keep going back and coming in to the blog again. Am I doing something wrong?

  6. Continuing my rant, we go straight from this stressed conversation, to fun disco times. I would like it so much better if there was a half as stressed conversation, and then fun disco.
