Discussion Post: What Movie Character Would You Most and Least Like to Be Quarantined With?

A vital timely question! And now that we are all about 6 months in, I think we have a good sense of the importance of this question and what factors needed to be weighed and considered.

Least Like to Be Quarantined With:

The answer leaps to mind immediately! Ranbir Kapoor in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. His boy-man thing would drive me a little crazy, but also he is such a hyper extrovert people person, I feel like he would be bouncing off walls and expecting me to entertain him all the time, and I can’t, I just can’t, I JUST WANT TO READ MY BOOK LEAVE ME ALONE RANBIR.

Most Like to Be Quarantined With:

Harry from JHMS. He has a varied number of interests, there is so much we could talk about, I feel like I could learn a lot from him and he would be open to learning a lot from me. He could talk about musical traditions in various European countries, and I could tell him about Malayalm film. Plus, he has a rich inner life, we could go to our separate corners and just read or think or whatever with no hard feelings. And of course, he can cook.

  1. Practically speaking, good choices are wealthy Fawad from Khubsoorat so we can order anything delivered and travel around by private jet, or SRK from Dear Zindagi so I keep sanity, or Sridevi from English Vinglish so that all the housekeeping stuff is magically perfectly done. But I kind of want to be quarantined with Nazriya Nasim from Ohm Shanthi Oshaana because I love her.

Worst choices: Hrithik from MDK or Hrithik from MPKDH, I can’t decide.

    • I think Hrithik from MDK might be a delightful house mate! He would be ridiculously happy about many things, and his mood swings would be endlessly amusing. Whereas MPKDH Hrithik would be in serious danger of hurting himself or others.

Agree about Khoobsurat Fawad, although maybe a bit TOO restrained. I need someone to talk to sometimes.

  2. And do you imagine being quarantined with Tamasha Ranbir? Or Rockstar Ranbir? He is a terrible companion in every movie.
I would chose ARK character from Dawaat-E-Ishq. He is funny and can cook. Or Emraan from Hamari Adhuri Kahani, we could quarantine in one of his hotels. The hotels would be half empty and it’s not good for his financies but good in case we would be tired of being together in one apartment.

    Like

    • All terrible, of course! And Rockstar Ranbir would try to kill me with unprotected sex along with everything else. I think I might pick YJHD as the worst over all just because he has the least serious issues. At least Tamasha Ranbir and Rockstar Ranbir will go off and think about Art and leave me alone for abit, YJHD Ranbir would just always be there.

ARK from Daawat E Ishq is a good choice, he is also very warm hearted. The type who would forgive you when you snapped at him.

  3. I want to be quarantined with Konkana from Wake up Sid…perfectly sensible, practical…we can both get our work done in the day efficiently and then hang out at night…

And the worst person – soo many worst options here…all Ranbir characters are terrible as everyone has mentioned…but I would go with Salman Khan characters (all of them, any of them, doesn’t matter all the same anyway)…can you imagine that macho testosterone man-child energy sitting around your house all day…he would want attention 24/7, expect to be waited on, do none of the housework, and would probably break things around the house coz he got bored and needed to release some steam…

    Like

    • Konkona is an excellent choice. And she has a great sense of decor and organization, she could find a way to neatly subdivide any space you had so you each had your own places.

Agree about Salman, with the previso that if there were children to entertain, or someone to cheer up, he would be great. But if all you needed was some alone time, he would be terrible. Plus, worse case scenario, he might decide it was his job to cheer you up and there is perhaps nothing worse than someone trying hard to cheer you up when all you want is to be left alone.

  4. Not exactly a character since the film is a biopic, but I would say Anand Kumar (Hrithik Roshan) from Super 30 is a character I want to be stuck in quarantine with. My online classes are starting soon and I could use some help in math.

    • I really shouldn’t have picked such good examples, now everyone can just say “same!”

  5. Most Like: Harry from JHMS. He’d keep both your mind and body occupied. 😂
    Least Like:
    1. Hrithik from Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon. One of the most annoying and rage inducing characters ever.
    2. Any self-obsessed manchild Ranbir Kapoor character.

    Like

    • It’s hard, but I think I might prefer MPKDH to any Ranbir character. If those were my only two options. At least MPKDH Hrithik won’t ask me to sympathize with his ManPain.

  6. Going to do an all Jab We Met answer. Kareena would be one of the worst to be stuck with. Super pushy, up in your face, can’t be alone, impulsive about running off and heedless of consequences. Shahid would be one of the best. Quiet, considerate, funny, plays guitar but only on request, creative problem solver, and willing to lie to your family to keep them from worrying.

    Like

    • You’re right, in both cases. Plus Shahid is all alone in the world, he won’t have any guilt or feel trapped just being with you. Kareena would be going insane not able to be with her larger family.

  7. Least: Apart from all the gangsters and psychos and killers that might just cut the quarantine short? Amisha Patel. In, like, every movie of hers I’ve seen. Her characters tend to come across as spoiled whiny brats. And just her voice would get on my nerves so much that I wouldn’t able to acknowledge anything she did right. Programmed disaster.

Most: MDK Rani might be my perfect quarantine companion. She seems hardworking and can maintain friendships online. And for fun she likes to watch movies and dance to old Hindi film songs – both of which can be done at home, and I’d love to do that with her. Plus, she’s so big on self-sacrifice that even I could probably assert myself against her if we ever disagreed on anything. Not a healthy situation in general, but it would make things easy for me while it lasted.

    Like

    • Oh my gosh, YES Amisha!!!! That baby voice, that big eyed distress “help me”a ttitude, I would go CRAZY.

And I will just add that MDK Rani can cook aloo parathas.

  8. What’s the name of Shashi’s character from Kabhie Kabhie? I’ll be quarantined with him for obvious reasons.

Least would actually be Sanju Ranbir, but keeping it to people I like, any of Govinda’s characters from 90s David Dhawan comedies, because can you IMAGINE? He’d constantly pinch you while you were trying to work and then do a dance on your table or something. Infuriating.

    Like

    • I just can’t imagine Sanju Ranbir as a real person. Can you? It would be like being quarantined with a mime or something. Or an Android. Not a breathing human person.

I don’t want to be quarantined with Govinda on or off screen! On screen, pinching and practical jokes and so on. Off screen, all those weird religious ceremonies.

      • Yeah, a horrible android with a terrible sense of humour and no respect for women.

He’s had normal characters who wouldn’t pince you or begin some elaborate scheme where he uses barbies to convince your boss you’re working from home when you’re really dancing on a mountain, and I’d quarantine with those. Not in real life though, I agree with you there for the same reasons, although he seems reasonable these days.

  9. Least: SRK’s character in Baazigar. Likely to go nuts from isolation and throw me off a roof.
Most: Jug from Dear Zindagi. Can keep us both sane and occupy mind and body. I was tempted to pick Harry, but he may feel reined in by quarantine and start bouncing off the walls

    Like

    • Oh oh! What about quarantining SRK in Baazigar WITH Jug? And then when they are released after months together, Baazigar SRK would be all mentally healthy and cured.

  10. Least want to be quarantined with: aargh….Kareena from Jab We Met, just because I wouldn’t be able to keep up and the constant video chat calls (you know that’s how she’d solve not being able to see them in person) would make me go bonkers.
Most want to be quarantined wtih: Rekha from Krissh because bb Hrithik basically quarantined with her his whole life and he turned out fine.

    Like

    • Second person to bring up Kareena from JWM! I love her as a character, but yeah, she is a lot.

Interesting out of the box thinking with Rekha in Krrish, I like it. Although Hrithik also turned out shockingly naive and with weird hair, so maybe not worth the risk.

      • I’m Captain Two-Tone right now as my blonde grows out and my brown grows in, so I don’t think the weird hair will be too bad…and hopefully I won’t be in quarantine with her for 15 or 20 years so hopefully she won’t brainwash me too badly into being too naive to function…but you have a good point that it could happen!

I would also love to be quarantined with Sonam from Khoobsoorat but don’t want to be quarantined with Fawad and Sonam together because I am selfish and want their attention separately.

I would hate to be quarantined with Ranbir from Sanju/Rockstar/Tamasha. Ugh!!!

    Like

    • Oh! Sonam from Khoobsurat! She would make you always healthy, get you in the fittest shape of your life, and do your nails different colors every night.

Challenge: newest post asks you to pick WHICH Ranbir is the worst/best Ranbir. No fair just saying “all of them always”.

  12. I think I would like to be quarantined with Dev from KANK because he’s hot. But he would be annoying too and just too negative, complaining all the time, but I’m imagining us in his house in NY and there would be enough space to spend time apart. But he’s hot.
Or maybe he wouldn’t be complaining? Because he hates parties and socializing and that’s what he complains about but in this case, there wouldn’t be any.
Or Saif’s character in Salaam Namaste, not hot to me, but he would make good food and might be fun to watch TV with or talk to.
Actually, Rohit from KHNH would be sweet too, he’d be funny but sweet. Easy to be friends with.
But definitely picking Dev because he’s hot.

Least- Baazigar character because I’d realize he’s a murderer as I’m trapped there with him and he would creep up on me as I’m trying to even call the police. Also suddenly seeing him without his contacts in the middle of the night would be creepy.

  13. Most –
    Harry from JHMS… obviously!
Rohan from Swades – the thinking woman’s sex symbol. So much deep conversation, introspection, and collaboration on a variety of topics – science, history, the meaning of life, and how to build a better world.
Ayan from ADHM – ok ok, hear me out. I wanna be fabulous like Aish, but I prefer him to love me like Anushka. And because he’s ultra wealthy, we can use his private plane to jet all around the world during quarantine and vacation at all the places that the ultra wealthy never stopped vacationing at during quarantine.
Yogi from QQS – just a funny cerebral artistic eccentric quarantine-while kinda guy.

    Like

    • Oh oh! Let’s make Ayan from ADHMS and Yogi from QQS quarantine together! They would start out hating each other, and then Ayan would learn to look beyond the surface, and Yogi’s natural tolerance would keep him going, and at the end of it Ayan would have written music for Yogi’s poems.

      • Good idea! We can have a “double bubble” quarantine, or a “quaran-team”. In addition to having alone time with each of them, I would love them to serenade me with songs & poems they penned together.

        I forgot about least

        Least –
Any of the “sex comedy” “heroes”. I would hate to be cooped up alone for months with a guy who just saw me as a piece of meat, to assess my body parts, to “use and throw” me once quarantine ended. I wanna be the one doing the using and throwing lol 😆.

If I have to be quarantined with a ShahRukh character, I would like to have a lot of fun…in various areas…playing, kids, cooking, talking, reading, watching sport/TV/films …I would like to have people around me who would like their own-time and respect my me-time and give the them-time to the kids and yet being involved in what’s going on in the family…even with mom(s) & father(s) & other relatives around…and secured nature around to have s p a c e !
The best character for that would be ShahRukh and his family…

  15. I feel like I agree with most of what people already said in the comments, so I’m trying to come with new choices.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of Bollywood film characters are too high energy and I do not have the stamina to keep up with them. Most Ranbir characters are man children. Ranveer characters would not last a week, except maybe Gully Boy because then he would just write all the time. Even a lot of SRK characters need so much attention, DDLJ, KKHH, I couldn’t do it. I feel like even Humpty would be bouncing off the walls pretty quickly in.

My first thought of who I’d like to be quarantined with was Sid from A Gentleman. He has two sides of his personality from pre and post move to America, so he has his Rishi side with working out (and maybe getting me to work out) and coming up with adventures. And then there’s the Gaurav side that’s practical and can cook and will also keep track of finances. Plus both these sides of him I think lend to protecting the people that he cares about, so he’d look out for me and make sure I always remember my mask when I go out and stuff. Plus he’s hot and very…romantic…so yeah.

This could be an interesting one though. What about Tara from Marjaavaan? She’s mute, so the house would be quiet, and yet also filled with music and dance. And she’s also so happy and full of sunshine all the time that it might make the whole thing easier on me mentally, because I’d have such positive energy around me all the time.

    • I like the idea of Sid from A Gentleman! He would also be so happy to just have normal days at home that it would make you feel happy too.
