Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, White Christmas! I’m gonna be sitting here eating left over mashed potatoes like someone who lives RIGHT.
White Christmas! It’s on Netflix and other places, it’s got an awesome score, and it’s got a fun mixture of campy, comic, and sincere.

At 8am Chicago Time, I will put up an “and PLAY” comment and then we will comment along from there.
And for our ready-to-pop reader Filmikudhi: My sister went into labor while watching a movie long distance over the phone with me! Just saying, long distance watchalongs with Margaret have a proven track record.
Here!

Here and I’m really hoping this long-distance movie watching will do the trick! I thought I was having contractions last night but they turned out to be fake! I was not happy!
PS. I read your post a bit to quickly and though your said your sister went into labor while watching a movie on a long-distance flight!

It’s the best selling Christmas song of all time. And Bing always sings it the exact same way, which I appreciate.

Why spoil something with variety when the one single way is a hit? 🙂

White Christmas! STILL the bestselling song in the history of American music and, if you look at the “most played” on the streaming services this year, still the most popular Christmas song in America.

Yep. And applicable to almost any situation.

Non-spoiler: the most vital important relationship in this whole movie is between the soldiers and their general. Kind of unique and interesting, in the middle of this corny movie.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if this was the extent of a war section in an Indian movie? 5 minutes at the opening to explain how a song and dance team got together?

In case you are unfamiliar, Bing Crosby really likes to use slang he invented himself and all his dialogue in this movie is ridiculous!

Also, this is one of the first “jukebox” musicals. It’s every hit Irving Berlin song from everywhere and anywhere all thrown together.

Bing understands that a woman has ambitions and her own life and doesn’t want them to settle. Aw, that is so considerate from a male lead (especially considering the time period)

Two trivia points: Rosemary Clooney is George Clooney’s aunt, and Vera Ellen was anarexic and that’s why she always covers her neck.

I have to say, it’s not that great of an act. I mean, it’s okay, but I can see why they are stuck in a tiny nightclub.

Notice Bing reveals he is interested in a woman by seriously arguing with her? Instead of just being polite and dismissive? Truly, he is a feminist!

And DANCE BREAK! Danny Kaye is an okay faker but not a dancer, Vera Ellen is a dancer. So we should see her do all the work while he moves around.

Oooo, I like the dark pink linking to the skirt!!! It only makes sense if you are going to do a big dance number, but it looks great in that context.

Okay, arguably the best part of the movie is coming. And it was spontaneous! The director saw Danny and Bing playing around and the crew laughing, and went ahead and wrote it into the film.

I love when movies (either today or old movies) put in improvised parts. Makes it seem so much more fun and spontaneously real in a sense
