We last did this a few months back, and I had sooooooo much fun watching Hum Saath Saath Hain with you guys! It was the most painless way to watch a Rajshri without going into insulin shock. Heck, it was even enjoyable! So I want to do it again. We just need to figure what movie to watch and when. I am strangely leaning towards Easter/Night before. But that might not be viable for everybody.
If you weren’t part of the other ones, the way it works is, we pick a movie, start it at the same time, and you set up your twitter account to automatically look for certain hashtags on twitter and that way you can follow along with what everyone says. And join in if you want (hopefully). And somewhere in the middle I usually announce a bathroom break, because these movies are 3 hours long, after all.
Now the question is, what movie to watch? Hum Saath Saath Hain was our best one yet, I think. Because unlike Kal Ho Na Ho or Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham there was no scene that we minded talking over. And someone always had something entertaining to say, whether it was about the hotness of Salman while looking at Sonali, or the amazing all denim outfits.
So I am going to lean strongly in the Hum Saath Saath Hain direction with my suggestions this time around:
- Maine Pyar Kiya (on Netflix and Amazon and Youtube, best Salman has ever looked, killer pigeon)
- Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (on Netflix and Youtube and Amazon, gorgeous costumes, swordfights!)
- Mann (on Amazon video, Amazingly 90s!)
- Chaahat (iTunes, Youtube, GooglePlay, SHAHRUKH!!! And a puppy)
- One 2 Ka 4 (Netflix, GooglePlay, Youtube, SHAHRUKH!!! And Juhi)
Just say your votes in the comments!
Do you want PIGEON

SWORDS

90s
PUPPY

JUHI

Scheduling-wise, last time we did 7pm Saturday Chicago time, which seemed to work pretty good for Australia, Japan, and America people, since it landed at mid-morning Sunday for the Pacific Rim, and early or late evening all over North America. Not so great for India people, because it’s early morning Sunday. But you can just wake up early and then go back to bed, it’s the weekend!
For the date, I am pretty open, April 1/2, or 8/9 or 22/23 (April 15th I’ll be all worn out post Tax protest march). Again, put your votes in the comments!
Yay, I had such a blast with HSSH! The 8/9 or 22/23 would work for me (April 1st we’re going to a Gin Blossoms concert). I still haven’t watched Maine Pyar Kiya or One 2 Ka 4 but Mann or Chaahat would be sooo much fun! I’ll throw my vote in for Maine Pyar Kiya but I’ll be happy to watch any of those movies!

Maine Pyar Kiya is filled with riches. Besides the murdering pigeon, there are also quite the 80s fashions.

8/9th or 29/30th would be OK for me.

And Einthusan has Mann. Of the choices One 2 Ka 4 would be my least favourite – it took me 3 goes to get past the first 20 minutes or so when I first watched it.
I will vote –
1. Mann (cos I haven’t seen it and it is Aamir)
2. Main Pyar Kiya (cos I haven’t seen it)
3. Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (it is very pretty)
4. Chaahat
5. One 2 Ka 4

One 2 ka 4 is a bit messy (they took four years to make it), but it has lovely music and good performances from SRK, and especially Juhi.

I really like the soundtrack, and the song videos. Except the strange “I am sorry” song with the clown costume, that’s just odd!

Boy, I was sure the Shahrukh ones would zip to the top just based on how popular he is among this crowd! I am glad to see how fair and even handed we are all managing to be.

If Rab Ne Bana di Jodi or Veer-Zaara or Main Hoon Na or Paheli or OSO or Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna had been in the mix it would have shot to my No.1 choice, lol

No chance! Those are movies that I’d get sucked into and forget to comment. One 2 Ka 4 and Chaahat, much less likely to have that problem!

It seems like the goal is not so much to watch a good movie, as to watch a movie so you can make fun of it.

Not exactly make fun of it, but talk over it. Hum Saath Saath Hain is a fun movie, but it’s a lot more fun if you can share the experience with other people and talk about the costumes and the set and what we think of these characters and all of that. The twitter version of cheering the hero and hissing at the villain 🙂
When we watched Kal Ho Na Ho there were all these scenes where you had to focus and watch every line of dialogue, and there wasn’t really a lot to say about them because the mise-en-scene wasn’t that remarkable either, then twitter would go silent for minutes at a time and it’s just not as much fun!

Cool! The weekend of the first I am working, but the other two will probably be OK.
As for movies, I am limited to what’s on YouTube or Eros. Our Netflix is not your Netflix, and our Amazon not your Amazon. I think that means everything but Mann will work for me. (Spuul has Mann, but without subs, irritatingly).

Feels like some kind of creed we should be reciting or something “Our Netflix is not Your Netflix and Our Amazon is not Your Amazon”.
anyway, helpful info! I want to make sure as many people as possible can join and if you can’t get Mann, I bet a bunch of other people can’t either.

The HSSH one was sooooo much fun! I would have never noticed all those fancy fountains on my own.
