Okay, Aamir, you’ve won me over. After seeing that teaser over and over and over and over again, the trailer added enough new to it that I am interested.
Really interesting that Aamir chose to make this movie. It’s not just that he is taking more of a supporting role, it’s that this will be a nice small film. No romance, no action scenes, no other big names. Just a tiny plot about a girl who wants to sing and her father who tries to stop her.
It’s a nice small story, but it’s also a story that I am very excited to see get told. Aamir as an aging megastar entertainment type, who is also a really sweet kindly mentor to a young girl. And a young girl whose father isn’t the big dramatic kind of abusive, but the small and petty kind that doesn’t get shown on film as much. Or rather, gets shown on film but not acknowledged as abuse. And most of all, a young girl who has her own dreams and deserves to go after them. Not because her true love supports her, or her father encourages her, but because she just wants it for herself.
Oh, and the songs sound good too. Amit Trivedi, a good year for him, this and Qaidi Band based primarily around his songs. But after Udta Punjab, he deserves it.

Did you think Aamir was trying to imitate SRK? I found it very distracting.

I didn’t notice, but I only watched it once real quick before I left for work. I’ll give it another watch tonight and see.

Yes, he was! The moment he starts talking I thought “Is it Aamir or SRK who I’am watching?” He was soooo SRK-ish.

The other question is, do you think it’s going to head in the “father is evil and wrong, happy ending is to leave his house” direction, or in the “father learns his lesson and reforms, all relationships are fixed” direction? I would have thought option two except for the dramatic choking shot, which seems too much to ever redeem him.

I thought option one from the omnipresent teaser, but the trailer seems to be going somewhere a bit more serious. The choking shot, and also her unhappiness (and her mother’s unhappiness) is a bit less “spoiled teenager complaining” and a bit more real.
Do you think there is any chance that cool music producer Aamir will end up falling in love with her loving mother and they form a new family at the end?
