America is all gearing up for another abortion fight, and Ranveer just released his anti-abortion movie, so I thought it would be a good time to talk about what “choice” really means.
Continue readingAnd we reach the end! Aamir’s most recent film, and also his one at the end of the alphabet. So one last review, and then he gets his nice fresh index.
Did I do that right? Anyway, what I mean to say in the title is that the Tiger box office is finally dropping off. And nothing else has shown up to pick up the slack, so it is yet another bleak and dreary week at the box office. Well, except for China where Indian films reign supreme.
Well, the FilmFare Awards happened. We didn’t get to see it because, unlike the Oscar producers, the FilmFare people are too smart to do a live broadcast. We’ll get to see a version that is edited down to just the good bits on whatever channel buys the satellite rights. Which also changes a bit who might be winning these awards.
Phew! Finally! A film doing exactly the same as it would have done last year, bring us back to “normal” instead of continuing the shocking slide downhill. (as always numbers from rentrack by way of bollywoodhungama)
Yet another disastrous video. It’s the stupid sun! Which is not coming out any more. And the only way I can get the right kind of light is if I use sunlight. Oh well, again, the content is good even if the visuals are fuzzy.

Yaaaaaay! For the 1 day, the final day, here is the 1 way that Shahrukh makes me feel. And, okay, I’m going to go a bit over the top here, but I figure, if you’ve come with me this far, you feel the same way. Plus, I’m all caught up in the holiday spirit! And this is almost the same post I put up last year, but that’s just because my feelings haven’t changed since then. There’s just a few more songs available to express them.
Be warned, the video quality is VERY VERY POOR. My radiators turned on, which created a persistent hiss in the background. I had to turn on a light because it was so overcast outside which gave a very odd and very unflattering light to it. But at least my voice is good and strong, so you can always hear me.
Well, this is the best week the box office globally has had in months. And it’s still not as good as, like, February of last year. Something is up, the numbers are just not coming back. (data as always comes from bollywoodhungama by way of Renttrak here)
What a fun movie! Sure, not all the jokes landed for me, but a fair number of them did. And the cast was clearly having a great time. And most of all, the filmmakers knew what they were doing! I could relax and let go and be aware that I was in capable hands. And to talk about that, I need to get into SPOILERS. Which kind of matter for this movie, so if you think you might see it in theaters, maybe read the No Spoilers review instead.
I already put up my No Spoilers review, now this one will give me a chance to talk about the plot in specifics. I should say, there’s nothing exactly surprising here, the movie could only end one way once the situation was established, but maybe if you want to be surprised by the details of how it plays out, don’t read on. On the other hand, if you are unable to see the film for any reason, here is where you can learn what happens and what it is about.
I finally saw it! 24 hours after most other people. Stupid job, keeping me from watching movies in the middle of the week. Anyway, I’ve seen it now. There was a lot done really well, but there were also some things that were missing. The message was holding back a little somehow.
Not much else to write about today, and I felt like I couldn’t just let it go with the Shahrukh birthday post and Happy Diwali, so let’s throw in a last minute post on the Secret Superstar theme!
Aamir tweeted this morning that it was his No. 1 song from the movie, and it is definitely mine! This is the song I have been going on about, the one we hear a snippet of in the trailer and I have been waiting for the full version. Oh, and there’s another song that came out a few days ago and I somehow missed, so I might as well talk about that one too.
THANK GOODNESS, promotions are starting up again for things. Otherwise, I have no content! Although, just you wait in about 3 weeks when we are drowning in “first looks” and “teaser trailers” for everything for the holiday season, I will be complaining about having too much content and not enough time. But today is not that day!
Thank you Aamir! Both for releasing a song timed so I can watch it before leaving for work, and for telling me in advance what time you would be releasing it so I could plan around that! Of course, I still had to write the actual post, but I can do that anywhere. Oh, and thank you Dhawans for giving us such fun songs! Twice!
Well, trailer time is upon us again. We had that little burst during Ramadan, then everything kind of slowed down a bit as JHMS and Toilet dominated the news cycles. But now they are successfully running in theaters, so we can all focus on what’s coming up after them. Two big things out today, full Secret Superstar song and Judwaa 2‘s first trailer. Oh, and Bhoomi came out a few weeks back, I just never got around to writing about it.
Okay, Aamir, you’ve won me over. After seeing that teaser over and over and over and over again, the trailer added enough new to it that I am interested.
If I were Aamir Khan, I don’t know if I would have released a trailer for another movie today. On the one hand, it gave a little extra buzz around the name “Aamir Khan”, so that’s good for the Dangal release. But on the other hand, the buzz isn’t about Dangal, it is about something else. A risk! Oh, and also a trailer for Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy House. That’s the one that’s looking to the past, Aamir’s trailer is super cool and modern.
