TGIF: Turbans!!!! In Honor of the First Look of Kesari

I first did this post over a year ago, but now I am updating it and putting it up again because the Kesari first look gives new meaning to the word “turban”.

This is intensive turban, right?

You can see why I felt the need to revisit other turbany images.

I’m just going to start with the greatest turban image of all time.  I have no idea what is happening and I kind of don’t want to know.  It’s almost better this way.

And then that image linked me to this one!  I do know what’s going on in this, it’s an IPL match and clearly Shahrukh was celebrating something or wearing this to support his team or something.  But somehow the combination of the head topping with the serious expression makes me laugh and laugh!

Speaking of laughter, I am on record as finding the “Tu Hai” song from Mohenjo Daro really lovely.  But that doesn’t mean I can’t still LOL over the outfits!

John Abraham joins me in finding turbans humorous.

But Salman finds them kind of sweet, and also likes the way the set off his sensitive eyes.

I didn’t forget our one authentic turban wearer!  Diljit Dosanjh, who wears it all the time religiously (literally) and also in his film roles.  Whether it’s the casual version.

Or the formal plus leather jacket look

Or even more formal with tuxedo

Not surprising that Akshay is in Kesari.  Because he takes turbans dead serious.  And he is right to do so because DAY-UM!!!!  Akshay in a turban looks goooooooooooooooooooood!

He knows it too.

Somehow with the turban and the beard, even his most difficult feature (his chest hair) works better.

Heck, even an ascot looks manly instead of dopey!

But a turban isn’t just for men!  Ladies can wear the heck out of it too.  Remember the first time Salman saw Madhuri in HAHK?

Sonakshi went a different way, letting her hair peak out underneath.  But I think that looks maybe even better.

Kareena went just straight up full on sexy empowered woman, and she is WORKING that thing!

But you know who is the best?  Both in general and at turban wearing on women?  Sridevi!  I thought I would maybe be able to find one or two stills from Khuda Gawah, but I wasn’t expecting this:

Or this (maybe from a Lux ad?)

There were tons of others, but those are the best.  Oh, and this one, which I don’t know if I would necessarily call a “turban”, but I don’t know what else I would call it either.

And there was that Khuda Gawah photo I was looking for too.

Now, I know you have been reading this thinking “but where is the greatest turban wearer of them all?  Why isn’t he on this list?”  Not to worry! I was saving him for the end.  Sunny, who wears a turban like he was born in it.

I think you should have a contest for the first person to explain the SRK turbin-and-the-tooth picture. (That reminds me, I need to make a dentist appointment. — maybe that was the point!))

    • I can see it being a public service announcement about remembering tooth care, but then why is there a turban? So odd!

  2. I was absolutely neutral to turbans till I saw Akshay in Teri Ore song, now I’m heartfelt supporter.
SRK in this green turban – just WOW, and his moustache is so perfect.

And funny coincidence – I was watching Mallu Singh today and can confirm Unni looks good in turbans too.

    • Ooo, he does look good! Unni that is.

Do the Kesari turbans look odd to you? I looked up some old pictures of British Sikh soldiers, and the turbans are slightly bigger than the modern version (could just be the advantage of modern blend fabrics?), but not that big.

      • Oh yes, those Kesari turbans look enormous, but you know, Randeep Hooda wears the same turban on his twitter picture. Is he in Kesari too? I saw his photo few days ago and was surprised.

        • Looks like yes! Gosh-darn it, that’s gonna ruin the movie for me. Although at least the beard and turban will help cover up his stupid face.

          • Remember to see the bright side, and here the good thing is that Randeep seems to be a very decent person. You can think how he was helping durning Kerala floods, when you see him on screen.

  3. Akshay is made for a turban, and visa versa. The difference is, akshay also looks great sans turban, whereas sunny isn’t sunny without his turban.

You are missing a new entrant for this list. Check out the trailer for Manmarziyan, and catch the glimpses of JrB in a turban. He seriously has never looked hotter IMO! Somehow he stands straighter, more poised, elongates his neck, and the turban framing shows off eyes (shows off his eye bulge as well as his eye socket bone structure, if that makes sense), checkbones, and jawline. Of course it’s just a trailer, but those brief glimpses of JrB in turban might have just floated to the top of my list of hottest sightings of any recent Bollywood actor. Wow.

    • Oh dear, I also missed Saif in turban in Sacred Games! That was another one that really changed his whole look. Made him look stockier and stronger, and gave his face a kind of roughness he is usually missing.

And Farhan in Bhaagh Milkha Bhaag. But that wasn’t such a “his face looks totally different!”, more just a “that looks good on him”.
