They accidentally end up on a couples trip through Europe, complete with couple-y games and sessions with a therapist. The spark is re-ignited, secrets are revealed, true love is saved, and there is also a nice little romance for the therapist.

Juhi Chawla Inherits a Detective Agency: 2 votes

Juhi is either a forgotten divorced wife, or a widow, or a spinster, who ends up inheriting/getting in the divorce a detective agency. She loves TV mysteries and decides to take it over and run it herself. Naturally, she turns out to be brilliant at it. And then there is a murder related to the agency, and middle-aged rumpled police detective Shahrukh is assigned to it. Love blooms between arguments and dead bodies, other complications happen, and finally justice is found along with true love.

All About Eve in India: 2 votes

I had two options for this. One with Rani as the “Eve” character, the aging brilliant actress who is being unseated by a devious young woman. And one gender flipped version, with Shahrukh as the aging star. In both cases, there is the best friend who is happily married and a full time homemaker, the long-time lover who sees through the evil young woman immediately, and so on and so forth.

SRK-Irrfan Khan Love Story in Goa: 2 votes

SRK is a recently widowed man, to forget his grief he gives up the family house in Bombay and moves to Goa. Irrfan is the man he hires to teach him Urdu, also recently widowed (a long term relationship with a man). They fall in love, surprising both of them, and really surprising their children, complications ensue on the way to a happy ending (helped by Shilpa Shetty, Shahrukh’s bisexual yoga teacher).

Tabu as a Lonely Spinster Who Makes Up a Story: 2 votes

This is from an LM Montgomery short story. A spinster (Tabu) impulsively makes up a story about a romantic lost love which is why she is still unmarried when talking to the daughter of a friend. And then the lost love appears, a man with the same very improbable made up name she used, played by Shahrukh. Also, there is a b-plot about the daughter of a friend who she told the story too, who decides to run away from her wedding and look for her own lost love.

First, SRK is a super soldier investigating army misbehavior in Kashmir, who is injured and rescued and nursed back to health during a snowstorm with Tabu, widowed schoolteacher with two kids. Second, SRK is a workaholic who ends up snowed in with struggling single Mom innkeeper Juhi. Third, SRK is a “fixer” who ends up snowed in with Anushka, the woman he thinks is his boss’s former mistress that he has to pay off but who is actually just a friend pretending to be the mistress.

Sexy James Bond Type Spy Shahrukh: 1 vote

2 stories! First, SRK is a spy who falls for his “mark”, the dancing girl mistress of gangster Sanjay Dutt. Only to learn that the dancing girl (Madhuri) was secretly a cop undercover. Second half, they are married and Shahrukh is a house husband who has to brush off his spy skills to rescue Madhuri when she is kidnapped. And then the other story, Shahrukh is a super sexy spy who is given the task of teaching shy secretary type Tabu to be a seductress for a mission. Along the way, they fall in love (of course).

Female Devdas Options: 1 vote

Two options here! First, a simple gender flip, Rani as Devdas and Aamir as her lost Paro. And Aditya Roy Kapoor as the male stripper Chandramukhi. And second, a lesbian version. Vidya and Kalki as the passionate lovers, Rani as the dancer at a lesbian bar who tempts Vidya, Lisa Haydon as her cool friend, and a happy ending for all of them (because I hate sad Lesbian stories).

A very specific one, just for people who know both Anne of Green Gables and Malayalam film. Nivin Pauly as Gilbert, Sai as the young orphan moved to the Kerala countryside, mistakes and confusion as they grow up, and finally a love story which almost falls apart through a tragic misunderstanding.

The hero and heroine fall in love during his army service, she is a dancer in a show for the troops, he is a rich man’s son who is trying to live as a normal soldier. But, he gets amnesia and thinks he actually IS just a normal soldier, goes AWOL with her and gets married. And then he gets amnesia again, forgets her and their whole marriage, gets engaged to someone else, coincidentally hires his first wife as his secretary without realizing it is his first wife, and then when his engagement falls apart, marries the secretary!!! Will he ever remember? Will they fall in love again? What will happen?
