I did a serious one yesterday, so now I get to do a silly one! 21 hairstyles. Which was surprisingly hard, because he really doesn’t like to change it up much.
21. Least favorite first. I have expressed my dislike of the ponytail before, but can I just say again, I REALLY REALLY dislike it?
20. It’s a little better down loose. But still not great. At least, I don’t think so.
19. Now see, this is what I like! Nice and short and tidy.
18. This, slightly longer, and perhaps better.
17. The youthful look! With the floppy bangs and stuff.
16. Slightly more styled bangs.
15. Overly styled bangs?
14. Underly styled bangs?
13. Just right, or slightly too youthful?
12. Speaking just for myself, this is a whole world of NO!
11. Also this.
10. See? See how much better it is when he cuts it off?
9. Although shirt and curly may be my all time least favorite.
8. And in the same film, one of my all time favorite looks!
7. Okay, favorite from the front, it looks ridiculous from the side!
6. I think we can all agree that this is the WORST of the hair?
5. And it’s so close to one of the best looks! The slightly fuller hair brushed back from the face so we can see his eyes.
4. I think I like brushed straight back better than the kind of roof-over-the-eyes look he sometimes has.
3. A mullet is never good.
2. I think this may be close to perfect. Long enough to still have a slight natural part and poof, but short enough not to overwhelm his face.
- Or maybe this. The movie where his love interest is a hairdresser would naturally have good hair.
The ponytail is definitely the ugliest. It is a sin. He should not be allowed to do this to any of us.
His best look is whatever they did to him in JHMS. Short enough hair but not too short and with a stubble. He looked better here at age 50 than he had even in his younger days.

I always thought the ponytail was the ugliest, and then I saw the Happy New Year look of ponytail PLUS random blonde streak, and I realized how wrong I was.

Oh, how I needed this today. 🙂 For me this is his all time hottest look so far, hair and all. I like the hair a little longer, and a little styled, but still able to move and flop around. When he’s pointing at the camera towards the end. Oh. My.
He looked awesome in Dear Zindagi and JHMS, but, as I think moviemavengal or filmilibrarian said, his hair stylists need to go easy on the teasing, poofing, then spraying approach. His hair is finally thinning/flattening a little bit but still looks beautiful as is–they don’t need to individually style each lock. Looks a bit vain and desperate to me, if I may say so.
As my grandma would have said (though never in public on the Internet): I wouldn’t kick him out of my bed for any of these hairstyles, or indeed if he had no hair at all. 🙂

I don’t know, I think I might cross the line at no hair at all.
The sad thing is, I think the beautiful slightly long look is tragically related to the ponytail. When he needs it slightly long for a film role or even a song, he takes to wearing it in the stupid tiny ponytail in real life. I don’t know if he thinks he needs a sleeker look for public appearances, or if he just finds the long loose hair irritating, but either way, he should stop it!!!! Just have it long and loose all the time, no need to ever pull it back.

Yeah, the long hair is why he puts it in a ponytail in real life. He doesn’t like it. He complained to no end about his extensions for Don also.
He used to hate the beard too and itchy it was and how food gets stuck in it. But said he realized women like it and has now made his peace with it. hah

I would have thought he liked the beard! Just because it seems like it grows very fast for him, and I would have thought not having to shave so obsessively to keep it in check would be a relief for him.

This post is making my day! I have a file that I call “Head Shots” for my screen saver and have all these pix in it! Then my DVD of JHMS arrived just a few minutes ago. For some reason, even unknown to me at this stage, I am obsessed with watching this movie or listening to the songs. I am beginning to think this is tapping into his real self, more real emotive acting. But then what do I know. I just love it.

Yep, need another JHMS DVD for my bedroom TV! Sound so much better. That voice of his . . .

I have questions! Is it an “official” copy of the DVD? I’ve been looking out for one but haven’t found it. (No judgment if it’s not.) Does it have any extras?
I think a subset of Shah Rukh fans, based on the discussion here and what I’m seeing on Twitter, just connect intensely with JHMS, for whatever reason. I’ve seen people calling it an addiction. I’ve been watching it in pieces when I have small bits of free time, probably getting through the whole thing twice a week. And listen to it–yes, the whole movie, tho I don’t speak Hindi–in the car or if I’m having trouble getting to sleep.
I love your avatar. I actually squeaked out loud when I saw you changed it. 🙂

Have no idea if it is “official”. What is OFFICIAL? I think it says distributed by Reliance which I believe is Ambanis’ company.
Bought it on AMAZON PRIME. Does PRIME sell unofficial DVDs? I’m learning all the time on this blog; and love what we called at Smith College “LEO” (learning experience and opportunity).
It does have subtitles. And, it doesn’t have the extras that I was hoping for, like in a two disk set. If I see one of those, I’m getting it.

I’ve been falling asleep to the movie on EINTHUSAN or listening to the music on my iPod.
I am not a Hindi speaker. Can catch a few words here and there. Movie every bit addictive as any addiction I’ve encountered in my practice. Guess we all need to go see Dr. Jehangir Khan in Goa.
as for the avatar, the books I gave him for AbRam are in his right hand and he never put down or gave them to his assistant when she came to get them. So i guess they meant a lot to him.

Yep, Reliance is legit. Tonight it showed up as available on my Amazon Prime too. Yay! I have it on Google Play, so now I’m torn about getting the current DVD or hoping another one with extras comes out. I’d dearly love to have the deleted scenes, with or without subtitles.
Happy watching!

On the deleted scenes: Imtiaz said on a facebook chat after the movie came out and before they were on YouTube that the deleted scenes would be out with the DVD. So I’m surprised & disappointed to hear they aren’t there. Unless he meant they’d be released around the same time?

I have 3 generations of Smithies in my family! Two nonagenarians, one in her 60’s and two recent (last 5 yrs) graduates!
Sorry, Margaret, for going off topic.

Yep, gotta agree he looks pretty amazing. Also–just love any photos of him with his kids. You can’t fake that kind of connection and attachment. So lovely.

I require a good view of his eyebrows, so shorter bangs are better. Swades era was just about perfect.

That is an important consideration.

Ooo, his hair looks really good there! Not how it flatters his face or anything, just soft and shiny and like you want to pat it.

Agree 😀
The first time I met ShahRukh he looked exactly like that (hair, glasses, shirt)…

have a cute picture of SRK holding up his eyebrows but can’t figure out how to get it into this post. If you can help me, I’ll send it.

Aha, Claudia. You’ve been holding out on us! 😉 Please do share your experience(s) if you are inclined. If you’d rather keep the memories more private, that’s understandable too.

There are certainly memories (related to ShahRukh) I keep private, but at least my first encounters with him were published in a book.
This one was when he was driving from Mannat to his work, in the morning. He made the driver stop the BMW and we had a brief conversation. He had read some papers (script?), that’s why the glasses…and his hair wasn’t styled but fresh and fluffy like on the pic…but he wore a white t-shirt (now that I think about…) 🙂

And then there’s the blonde moment in HNY – very weird.
I actually don’t mind the pony tail, whereas the worst look ever was the curls in Ra-1. It looks like a clown wig and I hope he never, ever goes that way again. I read somewhere that the original idea was for Guarav in Fan to have curls but he convinced the director that the fan would emulate the star’s hairstyle, so we were spared that.

I am so glad Shahrukh forced that change in Fan. Both because he’s right, it makes total sense for the character, and because curls are really not his look.

20 is a great photo. Natural, open, not too happy or too sad.

Gotta say I’m with Claudia here–unkempt and long-ish but not too long is best. The poufy blow dried look is not for me. He looks so good there–I would’ve tossed in a few of my faves here, but couldn’t drag a screenshot or photo in. I can’t understand why not one of his directors has used this look, unless Shah Rukh himself won’t do it.

Maybe it’s one of those things where it doesn’t look good from all angles/after a long day of shooting? So it’s easier to do a blow-dried stiff look if there is going to be a lot of shooting and reshoots? Doing the DDLj scene by scene, I am noticing a lot of variance in his appearance shot by shot with the more natural hair.

I like the fact that he has a hairstyle which is a ‘private’ one and that all the others are ‘for work’. (and I am grateful that I could see him like that when I met him for the first time…meet the private ShahRukh on his way to work…thus getting both of them…in a certain way)
