Jab Harry Met Sejal Scene By Scene Index

I don’t know why I didn’t start doing this ages ago.  So much easier to just have one place to come back to instead of trying to link to every other post from within each post like some kind of crazed math graphing problem.  It’s here!  It’s all here!  And I will just update this one place as I add new posts.

  19. Hi. I loved your analysis of Jab Harry met Sejal. Also, you helped me clarify some things that, due to translation defects, make it difficult to understand certain scenes. (I watch the movies with subtitles in Spanish or English) Congratulations! I follow you from now on to be able to read your posts. A hug!

  20. I know it’s been years since JHMS first came out, but I just watched it yesterday and I’m FULL of so many thoughts. I actually wound up binge-reading this whole masterpost immediately after because I wanted to read through them before my second rewatch! I remember this came out in 2017, around the time I had health problems – so even though JHMS was exactly the kind of thing I’d love to watch (romance but with a lot of those lovely internal character-driven moments), I could just never get down to watching it. Now finally I got to, and I loved it! I think I’m going to wind up leaving comments on each of the scene by scenes, if that’s okay!

I do love JHMS the most because it seems to touch on what it means to lose and regain both a sense of home, and a sense of self. When I was in college, diaspora literature was my field of interest, and the way immigrants and exiles viewed their homes and places of origin was something I was always drawn to (I was born and brought up in Dubai, so part of that interest was very much personal). I see a lot of that in Harry, and I can see how Sejal provides a sense of groundedness that he believes he has lost, while also gaining a self she had never thought existed before she met him. Can’t wait to rewatch the film and comment on the scene-by-scenes!

I only wish I was around in real-time to enjoy these scenes with you all, those discussions really looked like great fun.

    • Oh, I am so glad you watched it! And very excited to read your comments on the other posts! It is just such a thought provoking film. And there is so much there for folks to relate to, issues around growing up, class, diaspora, romance, everything.
