What an odd children’s book!!!! A transgender heroine, the only competent army is female, but also there is a weird feminist army of flibbertigibbets. Oh, and a lot of puns.

Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Cotillion! The PERFECT Sid M Role!!!!
I was running late this week and sat down to finally finish this book last night and it was so GOOD. So very very good. Y’all should read it, especially if you struggled a bit at the opening. It gets better. And then you can picture Sid M. as the hero and Pari as the heroine and be happy.
Continue readingDCIB Book Club One Off Reviw: Angela Thirkell’s Cheerfulness Breaks In, History As it Happens “All You Can Do is Trust in God, and Isn’t That The Worst Part?”
This book is so FASCINATING, and also so odd, that instead of telling y’all to read it and then having an equal discussion, I want to write a really in depth review so you can make an informed decision, and I can get all my thoughts out. Mostly you need to know that it is weirdly relevant to 2020/2021, as you can see by the quote above summing up a character’s feelings.
Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Cotillion in ONE Week, in Two Weeks “The Soul of the Croupier”!!!!
Oh boy, another Christie! This is a recommendation from Emily, a short story with a satisfying love triangle. And a nice little easy read after several weeks in a row of full novels.

Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Shards of Honor By Lois Bujold in TWO WEEKS!!! April 4!!!
Yaaaaaaay! One of my favorite new books, which I read thanks to a recommendation ON THIS VERY SITE a couple years ago. It’s smart, it’s romantic, it’s addictive, and it’s a little bit mentally challenging too. You should all really REALLY enjoy it. Oh, and it’s also the perfect SRK/Tabu movie.
Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Ronia the Robber’s Daughter Next Week!!! In TWO Weeks, The Red Signal, Dealing with Dragons, or Shards of Honor?
Next week, one of my all time FAVORITE books! Ronia the Robber’s Daughter, it’s exciting and philosophical and a little bit romantic, and it has an AMAZING fearless heroine. Really, READ IT!!!! It should take you about 3-4 hours start to finish and it will give you so much to think about.
Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Where’s Your Hat Abe Lincoln! The Choice of the YOUNG!!!!
Oh boy! This is exciting! We get to discuss my nephew’s favorite book! Perhaps he can join in the discussion? Or perhaps not, since he still can only say about 10 words (“cah”, “chiz”, “yiss”, etc.).

Yaaaaay, Children’s Literature!!!! It’s the BEST literature. And this is one of those books I remember from when I was a kid being totally completely absorbed in it. So good! By Astrid Lindgren who also did Pippi Longstocking, but this one is a lot better (I think).

Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Ranson’s Folly in ONE WEEK!!! “Where’s Your Hat Abe Lincoln” in TWO WEEKS
I feel like energy for DCIB book club is waning. So next week is the short novella fun thing, and the week after that we will be discussing my nephew’s favorite book, “Where’s Your Hat Abe Lincoln”. So we can stay in touch with The Youth.
Continue readingDCIB Book Club: Emily of Deep Valley, My New Favorite Book!
DilDeewana is right, it’s so good! So very very good! It’s got a radical social message, it’s got a Jerk Man who is accurately described as a Jerk Man, and it has a loving kind grandfather. And a heroine who is an odd fit with girls her own age but discovers the joys of maturity.
