Final section! Meenaji is one of those rare artists where the end of her life and her last film were so perfectly matched that I can write a post that weaves in one with the other.

Second to last post! I am so glad that I have an excuse to repost these posts, I really like them. It’s like a little birthday present for you to me.

Continue readingHappy Birthday Meena Kumari! Your Life, Part 1: Your Childhood
It’s Meena Kumari’s Birthday! Well, in India. August 1 hasn’t reached America yet, but will soon. Anyway, I want to repost my multi-part series on her in honor of her birth anniversary.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Post, Why Does it Mean So Much to Some People?
This is going to be a lot of personal stuff, get ready for that! But also it might help you understand why, for the particular moment in time and the particular generation I am and all the rest, Kuch Kuch is still so important.
Continue readingWednesday Watching Post: What Are You Watching and Reading and Thinking and Listening To This Week?
Happy Wednesday! I have had a pretty nice week so far (saw Arjun Patiala on Monday night with my friend, last night sat at home and thought about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai). Hopefully it stays nice. I’d know it would be nice if Jabariya Jodi was releasing this Friday, but stupid release date got moved. Grrr.
Continue readingGlobal Box Office: Not Enough Pieces of the Global Pie
Remember when I used to have fun pun titles? I miss that! I couldn’t even come up with something witty related to Judgemental Hai Kya, and it feels like I should have been able to manage SOMETHING. Oh well. As always, figures from bollywoodhungama
Continue readingFriday Classic Announcement: Khalnayak! In Honor of Jackie and Sanju Reuniting in Prasthanam
I hope this is enough time for folks to actually watch the film. I’ll probably be putting up the review Friday evening, so it will be pretty fresh all weekend, you can watch the film any time Friday through Sunday. And it is such fun! A great thing to do over the weekend.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Alternative Universe Kuch Kuch Hota Hais, What Would Have Happened if….?
I can’t believe how few people have commented on yesterday’s Kuch Kuch post! Oh well, they make me happy, so I will keep going. And this one I find really fun!
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Lovers and Soulmates, and the Importance of the Gazebo Scene
Niki suggested that instead of trying to cover everything in KKHH in one huge post, I break it down into certain themes or elements. I like that! And the first theme that I find interesting is tied up in everyone’s favorite scene, the Gazebo moment.
Continue readingHappy Birthday Sanjay Dutt! Here is an Index of My Series on You, Some of the Best Writing I Have Ever Done
Really, this is a present to me. I love this series so much, I will use any excuse to refer back to it. And hey, an Index! Who doesn’t love an Index?
Continue readingHappy Birthday Sanjay Dutt! Let’s Look at a Bunch of Ridiculous Sanjay Songs!
Happy Birthday Sanjay! I can’t do my traditional “reasons I love you” biographical post, because I’ve already gone so far into your biography, there is nothing left to say. But I can list out a bunch of really really silly songs Sanjay was in to make us smile!
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions Post: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week Jabariya Jodi Comes Out?
Finally, a weekend when I am sincerely excited about the release! A nice happy rom-com, how lovely.
Continue readingAlbie Dog Learned How to Swim!
I know you are all fascinated. Or at least some of you are fascinated. Anyway, I have video of a little doggie swimming.
Continue readingSunday ReRun: Sangam! The Classic Raj Kapoor Film I Want Shahrukh to Remake
I put up a post this morning of classic films that could be rewritten and remade for Shahrukh, and after thinking about it, I think Sangam is my top choice. Shahrukh can play the guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and loves loves loves and ultimately turns out to be a better happier husband than the dignified guy who hides his feelings.
Continue readingSilly Sunday/Shahrukh Summer Discussion Post: Which Classic Film Do We Most Want to See Him Remake?
Do you realize this entire weekend has been Shahrukh-less? That cannot stand! I must throw something together!
Continue readingPakistani Week: Zindagi Gulzar Hai FanFic! What Happened to Sidra?
I like Sanam Saeed fine in this show, but I really like her sweet kind optimistic sister Sidra who is married off to an American doctor and never seen again. What happens to her?
Continue readingArjun Patiala Review (SPOILERS): This is the Movie Rohit Shetty Wishes He Could Make
I love this movie so much! It’s clever on like 5 different levels simultaneously, and also somehow extremely goodhearted. I love goodhearted cleverness, when you can see through the illusion of things and still love them.
Continue readingArjun Patiala Review (No Spoilers): GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! You Will Laugh, You Will Smile, You Will Learn To Deconstruct Films
I love love LOVE this movie. And almost no one will write good reviews of it or see it, I just know it. But I LOVE this movie.
Continue readingPakistani Week: Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Pride and Prejudice in Pakistan
Personally I like Humsafar better, but I can also see that this is the superior show, better story, better production values, all of that.
Continue readingSaturday Small Talk: Chat Away While I Recover from Many Many Movies
I still haven’t written the review because I know it was the one people were least interested in, but SEE ARJUN PATIALA!!! THIS WEEKEND!!!! It is super clever, charming, happy, all around delightful. And I suspect it will only be in theaters for a few days because clever, charming, happy, delightful movies don’t last.
Continue readingJudgmentall Hai Kya Review (SPOILERS): A Movie That Fails Its Own Internal Logic
This movie had honest trailers, so if you liked what you saw in the trailer, the weird look and the twisted plot idea and so on, then you should avoid this review and read the No Spoilers instead. The film is far more enjoyable if you don’t know the twists. But if you saw the trailers and felt like it wasn’t for you, then it probably isn’t for you and you can just read this review instead.
Continue readingJudgmental Hai Kya Review (No Spoilers): Style Over Substance
I did it! I watched it! Just for you all. And it was odd and unpleasant to watch, in a way that I thought was on purpose, but apparently not.
Continue readingTGIF/Shahrukh Summer: Shahrukh Smiles
This isn’t going to be nearly as good as yesterday’s post, but then what could be? Anyway, let’s compare and contrast Shahrukh’s various smile options!
Continue readingMisc Post: Interesting Trailer, Albie Dog Story, Funny Story About Me
I’m in the middle of 3 movies in 24 hours and I am way way too tired to write anything real (finished the last review last night at midnight, up at 6am for work). So this is a catchall whatever post in the meantime.
