Not “meet”, we already had that, but “meat”, the serious center cut portion of it all. Fun thing is, this is an Indian film we are writing, so we get the center cut here, and then the next post is the pre-interval finale, then the Twist, then the post-interval reset, then the second “meat” part, then the finale-finale, and then the epilogue. I am stunned that I am the only one who reacted to Rana’s tweet with the first look for the new Haathi Mere Saathi by going “oh no! My CHILDHOOD!” Especially because I didn’t even see the original as a child, only as an adult who was feeling childish. But there is something so magical about that original, the purity of it, I really don’t want it to be spoiled by any kind of new take. Although, on the other hand, the magical purity of the original is probably what will protect it, nothing new and dark and dangerous can ever break its power.
Well, this was a bit of an interesting downer! A movie about sex that was not at all sexy. Appropriately so, sex work is not sexy for the sex workers, it is just a job that they do from necessity. And it’s not necessarily sexy for their clients either, it is also something from desperation and misery. So, woo! An accurate depiction of life for a sex worker! Which means, depressing and grinding and tiring and dangerous and yet dull at the same time.
