Thank goodness I am not alone in this, on my Readers Choice post, I have already gotten a few comments voting for this as the least favorite film of the year. (Don’t forget to VOTE HERE if you haven’t already!) This is one of those “personal feeling” categories, not objective quality, so everyone has a different reason for hating it. Happy Birthday Arjun! A day late! Sorry about that, I somehow missed it yesterday. But better late than never! And you deserve a birthday post, because you work so hard. According to reports, you were working yesterday as well. And, at age 31, you have already worked on 10 films, starting when you were only 18.
I watched this movie aaaaaaaaages ago, mostly because I like the one song from it so much. And also Mohnish Behl. And then I just quickly fast-forwarded through it this morning to refresh my memory. It’s good! A little on the nose, but it doesn’t hurt to be on the nose about these issues.
I already posted a spoiler-free review, now here’s the one with lots of spoilers! Not because I want you to know every detail of the film (that’s what my full summary is for, going up sometime soon), but because I want to talk about parts of the film that are directly plot related and how they affect my analysis.
Karan just released yet another Kapoor and Sons song video on his twitter this morning, and there have been a whole bunch of other song video releases I didn’t even notice (because Karan didn’t tweet them), but I should really talk about. Because it’s almost Cricket season, authorized song videos are going to be all we have to entertain us for a while.
I was going to make the headline “Is this really feminist?”, but then I realized that isn’t really the question. Because yes! It is definitely feminist! Kareena’s character is an individual who has the ability to make choices about her own life, so yep! Definitely! The bigger question is really, is it actually breaking gender roles?
