It’s a fun birthday week this week! Zayed Khan, Revathi, and Neetu Singh, all of whom were part of small pleasant happy films that are just prime options for a Friday Watchalong. Or, alternatively, we could watch something complete different! I am open to suggestions! Is this finally the week for Ohm Shaanti Oshaana?
Continue readingThis is a lazy Friday post, it’s been a bit of a busy week at work. But it’s nice to have a chance to revisit a film that isn’t exactly deep and perfect, but is still interesting and worth talking about a little bit.
This is a strange little off-shoot of a discussion in the comments about Rani going back to work, and why this is so tough for her. Which ended up relating back to how she is in the “householder” stage which is in fact the most restricted time of life, and then I realized that only makes sense if you know about the 4 Stages/Ashramas of life as expected in Indian society.
It’s Alia’s birthday! Which I have somehow never honored before so I have to write this very quickly from scratch. Let’s see if I can manage it!
When we were little little girls, our grandmother brainwashed all 5 of us to believe to the depths of our souls “engineers make the best husbands” (guess what my grandfather, father, and brother-in-law all do?). And so I can’t ignore this holiday!
I am VERY EXCITED! Soon, I will be stunningly beautiful(er), and also have the eyesight of Superman. Or at least, I will look slightly different to myself when I look in the mirror every morning for a few weeks until I get used to it. Anyway, seemed as good a reason as any to do a songs post in honor of glasses and glasses wearers.
I think Chetan has earned his birthday post on my film blog, don’t you? He’s about to have his 4th big budget big deal movie made off of one of his books. And according to his wikipedia, he wrote the screenplay for Kick (although that’s a remake, so I don’t know how much there was to writing the screenplay, probably just putting in some Hindi dialogue). But he isn’t a “real” film person, so I am not going to do a full 43 reasons, just leave it at a dozen.
How could I not celebrate! So very many Indian engineer characters! And all of them, so adorable!
Happy Birthday Arjun! A day late! Sorry about that, I somehow missed it yesterday. But better late than never! And you deserve a birthday post, because you work so hard. According to reports, you were working yesterday as well. And, at age 31, you have already worked on 10 films, starting when you were only 18.
