Thinky Post: Toxic Men, Love Scams, Gaslighting, and Why Ladies vs Ricky Bahl Should Not Exist. Also, Ranbir. And Vanderpump Rules.

I don’t care that no one else cares! I am going to write a post for my own satisfaction about the Vanderpump Rules drama, and then loosely tie it in to universal social ideas, Indian film, and hating Ranbir Kapoor (all our favorite things).

Thinky/Discussion Post: Why is The Great British Bake Off/Baking Show so Addictive?

I’ve been watching Bake Off for the past week obsessively, and I was doing the same thing this time last year. But the rest of the year, no interest. What is it about this show that makes it so addictive, especially when you are feeling down (I do not like the whole “shortest days of the year” thing in December and January).

Thinky Post: Heart over Head for Female Characters, Head over Heart for Male

No particular reason for this thinky post, or at least no more than usual. There’s always stuff about female artists, actresses and writers and everything, that frames them as “intuitive” and “feeling” instead of thinking. And conversely, a man can’t make an emotional decision EVER, we always have to search for the “logic” behind it.

Cultural Appropriation and the Constant Balancing Act of Doing/Saying the Correct Thing

Thank you for asking for this post! It’s a reality I live everyday in many ways, and I am excited to hear your diverse perspectives on this issue. Also, this post took me like 5 drafts to write and got worser with each one. Gah, work-life was INSANE this week and I just wanted to sit down and focus on my nice thinky post! Stupid co-worker medical emergencies and burst sewage lines and blah blah blah.

Thinky/Discussion Post: Ghosts/Spirits, What Is Your Personal Feeling About It?

Nothing particularly inspired this post, beyond my parents and I having a conversation last night about if/when we feel the spirits of our shared dead relatives. As I’ve mentioned before, the lake house I go to in the summer has been in our family for almost 100 years, and it’s also where I spent the most time with my beloved Grandmother and Grandfather as a child (and where my father spent the most time with HIS grandparents when HE was a child), so we are surrounded by ghosts of various kinds of here.

Thinky Post: “India Syndrome” Podcast, How Do You Decide What To Believe About Another Culture When it Interacts With Yours?

I listened to a really interesting podcast! One of those that circles around and around and doesn’t really answer any questions, but brings up some interesting thoughts. It’s called “Astray” and focuses on a few sample cases among many of young non-Indian men who went missing in Rishikesh, never to be seen again.

Thinky Post/Discussion Post: Character Strengths and Virtues! Which Movie Worker, and Which Movie Character Do You Think Most Embodies Each One?

So I’m sitting here in COVID boredom (today, I loaded the dishwasher, got dressed, and drove over to pick up lunch. OH THE EXCITEMENT!), and I ran across an article on a new psychological concept of 6 Character Strengths and Virtues. Let’s talk about that, while I sit on the couch resting.

Thinky Discussion Post: Wonder Versus Assume Versus Reject, Stereotypes Versus Cultural Awareness Versus Racism

I’m not gonna really dig into this idea, I just sort of want to outline it and then throw it out there for us all to chew over. Because you are all really intelligent deep thinking people, and many of you are dealing with cultural awareness in terms of watching films from a culture that is not yours, so I think you will have good ideas.

Thinky Post: Ali Zafar Update and How We Choose Who We Believe

This is the slowest time in blogville, holidays are getting everyone busy and stuff, so it seems like a good time for me to post something controversial. Only my old friends who will read carefully and thoughtfully are hanging around. You don’t have to agree with me, but I know the DCIB regulars will at least take me seriously and consider what I say.

Thinky Post: Mindy Kaling’s Late Night and Amitabh Bachchan’s Pink, Accepting the Accusation But Rejecting the Judgement

My Mom made me watch Late Night last night, which I have been avoiding not because I thought it looked bad, but because I thought it looked so good I would be stressed. And I was! Stressed, that is. But also really intrigued by what Mindy is arguing about woman in the workforce.

Thinky Post: How Irritating is It When Men Write Women as Men?

I’ve been having a lazy weekend, scrolling through streaming options, and there’s a pattern I keep noticing in the things I start and then stop. At the same time, I watched Bang Bang and Duplicate, and there was a pattern with those that I liked and kept me going. Anyway, made me think about female characters and stuff.

Thinky Discussion Post: The Moral Judgement Against Those Who Have Taken Illegal Drugs, Where Does it Come From?

The ridiculous drug investigation into Hindi film society continues to roll on, and what I find vaguely interesting about it (if anything), is the glimpse it gives into the morality of drug use as it is currently seen in Indian society, something that had not previously come into my awareness. And that started me thinking about the morality of drug use as it is perceived in general and how much it has changed just in my lifetime.
