It’s IPL now, and Ramadan is starting soon, which means everyone is kind of hunkering down and being quiet. Because there’s no big movie to promote, so why talk? But there are some nice non-movie things happening that are getting a little reportage.
Last night, Shahrukh basically acted as India’s foreign finance minister. And it looked a lot more fun than when the royals were here and he acted as India’s British ambassador.
News update! Besides the haircut, there are some juicy/political things popping up. Exciting! But mostly it’s about the hair.
I love Dil Aashna Hai! I watched it years ago on a funky library copy, and fell in love with it. And then I couldn’t track down a copy on DVD to buy until just recently. I should have stolen the library copy! No one else could possibly appreciate it as much as me, I deserved that DVD! But I didn’t, because I am honest, which means it wasn’t until it just popped up on a random ebay list from a seller in India that I was able to watch it again. It’s even more wonderful than I remembered!
Slow Monday, with no big releases last Friday and no new Hrithik-Kangana news, or any other scandal coming up to oust them off the front pages. But there are a couple of interesting sort of industrial notes.
4 separate items, but they are each pretty tiny, so this is just a quick update! But all of these things have the possibility of turning into something super awesome and potentially juicy! So be on the alert!

Yaaaaay! It’s over! I actually finding the ending of the film the hardest to watch, whether I am watching it in the theater or in my head while I write these summaries. Maybe the reason it has taken me so long to get here is because I am trying to put it off?

Yay, Dubrovnik! My sister did a study abroad in eastern Europe and was fascinated by how Croatia was promoted as the sunny happy weekend getaway place. But now that I’ve seen Dubrovnik (on film), I totally want to go there for my next sunny happy weekend getaway! It’s beautiful!

Here’s a cool thing I just stumbled across through an interview! There’s actually a close connection between the films Fan and Sholay.
Fan‘s been out for 2 weekends now, and the box office trends are pretty steady. That trend being “down.” But while that is the bad news, there is also good news. And, separately, there is the news that relates directly to Shahrukh.
Yeah, Aryan-Shahrukh is finally really here and doing stuff to move the plot along! Also, our first action sequence! Which I will not be describing in detail because I don’t remember it that well, and also it is less interesting than it could be!

So, this thing was posted 3 days ago, and all sorts of people told me I HAD to watch it, but I didn’t do it until just now, because I was very busy working and then immediately going to the theater and seeing Fan again. But now that I have, I am just as fascinated as everyone told me I would be!
I think I’m about 40 minutes in now? Which isn’t bad, for a 2 hour and 20 minute movie. And, as I have said, no one but me is watching it in theaters, so it’s not like there is a huge hurry to get these posts up and finished. Although it would be nice to finish them by the end of the week. Maybe I do two tomorrow and the final one on Saturday when I have all the time in the world?

Okay, the movie has been out about 72 hours, and I have seen it 3 times. I’m wasting my life! That’s only 7 hours out of 72 that I spent watching it! What is more important? Sleep? Food? Work? That’s crazy talk! Anyway, after 3 viewings, I think I am ready to start my full detailed summary.

Yay, Bollywoodhungama has posted the regular full global weekend numbers! In addition to all the Fan specific analysis they posted and I talked about yesterday.
I watched Fan for the second time last night, which means I am almost ready to start my spoiler-y summary. But in the meantime, there was something else I started noticing that I wanted to give its own post to analyzing.
More box office data! The first meta bit of this, is that there is just SO MUCH data available. Normally there is just one graph showing the global total for each film for a weekend. But today, there are 6 different graphs just about Fan. Clearly, people are really really watching this particular release.
Sunday figures are out, yay! Interestingly, it went down and then up again. Cricket? Holidays? Word of mouth? Who knows!
In one of my reviews of Fan, I mentioned that I couldn’t believe with the director or the writer listed in the credits were the people who really come up with the ideas, because they were just workmanlike Yash Raj studio directors, full of rom-coms and bright colors and songs and happiness. But today an interview came out with Maneesh Sharma, and turns out, it was all him after all! And also, I may be a little bit in love.
