Second to last one! And an important one. Another super successful director, and super good and all of that.

Box Office Overseas: Stree Word of Mouth Hasn’t Crossed the Oceans Yet
Huh. I am seeing all these stories about how wonderful Stree is doing in the Indian market, and I am just not seeing that in the overseas market. Interesting, we don’t usually get such a strong divide. (as always, figures from Bollywoodhungama)
Happy Birthday Gulzar!!!!! 15 Reasons I Love You
Gulzar, Indian film’s old man of poetry. Who used to be Indian film’s young man of poetry. But time moves on, and now he is the lyricist and dialogue writer with the longest innings in the industry.
Happy Independence Day Again! A New Patriotic Classic, About the Cost of Patriotism, Raazi!
This is an actual excellent film, and a very fun watch. It doesn’t really matter if you know what happens, you can still enjoy watching it play out, but if you like being surprised and having edge of your seat thrills, maybe wait and read the No Spoilers review first, and then this one after you have seen the movie.
Happy India Independence Day! My Favorite India Patriotic Songs
I am not, in fact, Indian. So anything song that goes “Rah Rah Rah, Indian Over All” is not really going to work for me. But a song that goes “Rah Rah Rah, Let’s Love Our Home Because it Is Our Home And Try To Make It Better”, that works for me because it works for everyone in the world, you know? And these are my favorite of that time.
Global Box Office: Race 3, Week 2, Flop 1
Box Office day! Let’s look at numbers! And think about how the box office can be fooled and the horse race mentality is ruining the industry (it’s raining here again, I’m depressed. oh, and figures are from renttrack by way of Bollywoodhungama)
Box Office: Race 3 Loses the Race
Yes, that is a click bait title. I’m not even sorry. Because, it’s true! It did really terrible box office, for a major release, especially compared with the other films that are in week 3 and 6. (as always, figures from bollywoodhungama courtesy of renttrack)
Box Office: Raazi Rises, Parmanu Places Second
Happy Tuesday! Now that the holiday is over, I’m trying to get back on a regular schedule but it is HARD. Anyway, that means Tuesday box office time. (as always, figures from renttrack by way of bollywoodhungama)
Memorial Day: In Hindi Songs
It’s Memorial Day, which I am celebrating in the traditional American way, a barbecue. Although I am also sort of visiting a cemetery, since my friend’s backyard backs up on one. But that doesn’t mean I can’t take a moment to think about what it really means and why it is a unique holiday. Fair warning, this involves a lot of use of Rang De Basanti.
Box Office: Raazi Rides Again! And 102 STILL Not Out
This is a good week! Recent release doing very well in the second week, older release surprisingly still holding steady, and an assortment of other not so good movies still feeling in some of the screens. (as always, figures courtesy of renttrack by way of bollywoodhungama)
Box Office Video! With Delightful Dog Whining in the Background
Sorry, didn’t realize the microphone was sensitive enough to pick it up. I promise, I’m not torturing her, unless refusing to give her a second dinner just because she forgot she had the first dinner (she real dumb) is considered torture. Oh, also box office discussion.
Box Office Report: Raazi and Mahanati Prove Women Are Better Than Men
I was going to come up with something clever, but now, simple is best. Every male star in every industry is struggling to make a decent box office, and Alia and the Savatri biopic sweep in and break records without breaking a sweat. (as always, figures from renttrack by way of bollywoodhungama)
Raazi Review (SPOILERS): Patriotism Which Kills the Host
This is an actual excellent film, and a very fun watch. It doesn’t really matter if you know what happens, you can still enjoy watching it play out, but if you like being surprised and having edge of your seat thrills, maybe wait and read the No Spoilers review first, and then this one after you have seen the movie.
Raazi Review (No SPOILERS): Every Country Has Humans
Well, this was a shockingly good movie! I highly highly highly recommend it. Also, I am now in love with Vicky Kaushal.
Raazi Trailer! What Do We All Think?
Well, this is a fascinating trailer! 2018 continues to look like a much better year for films than 2017. The old dinosaurs, Stars and Directors, are stepping back and new faces are getting a chance to shine. This film is a perfect match of a new actor and a new creative team behind her. Which came together to create a new story.
