I need help! You know those brilliant posts I come out with sometimes? The Nepotism or Orientalism or Feminist Film Criticism posts? They only come when I am inspired by something, and nothing is inspiring me lately.
I’m going to spoil this film, but it is so open to interpretation, you can read my version and go see it and come out with a version all of your own. So I don’t know if I need to warn you away from this review or not. If you want to avoid just in case, my No Spoilers review is here.
This was a confusing film. It felt like it was going one way and then it went the other. Most of all though, it feels like it fully grasps accidents and recovery in a way that most melodramatic films shy away from.
Let’s see, I need something really phenomenal this week, don’t I? Hmmm. Hmmm. Oh! I have it! A new twist on the original classic!
I went from “women fighting” to “women with phallic symbols” to “women with swords” to “well, that’s not fair, I’ll throw in some men too!” And now here we are.
Okay, how can I say this classily? There is a certain kind of pose which seems to say “yes, climb on top of me and enjoy yourself”. That is the kind of pose that I am looking for this week. You know, so you can pretend you are kneeling on top of them throwing rose petals or something in a chaste and romantic manner. (I promise, next week will be something silly and innocent again! I don’t mean to be running a soft porn site, truly!)

I didn’t even know they HAD a “Best Book on Cinema” category, and now it is ALL I WANT IN THE WORLD. I am sure it is limited to Indian citizens, but I will CHANGE CITIZENSHIP (at least temporarily) if they will give me this prize. I so clearly deserve it! My book is brilliant!

I was going to watch Uphaar, but that wasn’t available anywhere. So then I was going to watch Guddi, but I couldn’t find my DVD. And so, with every other door closed to me, I was forced to turn to Mili. The film I bought 4 years ago and have been avoiding in fear of the sad bits.
Yes, I am this desperate for views. I hate the weeks when views go down! Especially because there is no logic to it that I can find. I just put up a Shahrukh movie review which is almost guaranteed to get comments, and NOTHING (except for you few faithful people who saw the problem and managed to comment, thank you!). Anyway, internet wisdom says that when Shahrukh fails, turn to cats. So here I am, turning to these soulless heartless animals (I am a dog person).
Happy 3 days after Jaya’s birthday! This is another review of a movie I have seen often enough that I can write the review without prep. But also a movie I think is legitimately worth talking about. It is just so delightful! And at the same time, breaks so many taboos! Oh, and Jaya is so amazing, it’s a great film to watch if you are wondering if/why she was a really big star. Or at least, skip to the end of this post and watch the video.
I put this post up almost a year ago originally, but I feel it is a came with limitless possibilities, so we can always play it again. Plus, not all of you were commentators back then, you missed out on the fun!
Happy Wednesday! I have had NO SLEEP. Very difficult week. But hey, my blog posts are still on schedule! So it’s all worth it.
Aaaaah. Like sinking into a warm bath after a long tiring walk, that’s what it was like following Jo and the Boy with this movie. A movie where the filmmaker had a strong idea of what he wanted and executed it and I could just relax and enjoy.
Well, this is a fascinating trailer! 2018 continues to look like a much better year for films than 2017. The old dinosaurs, Stars and Directors, are stepping back and new faces are getting a chance to shine. This film is a perfect match of a new actor and a new creative team behind her. Which came together to create a new story.
Time for a Netflix update! This is a list of every film on Netflix as of today, it could be wrong again tomorrow, I don’t update it that often. BUT! I made it! Sunday night! I thought I would never get here. But I did, and I am in bed, and tomorrow morning I get to go to work which will be strangely relaxing after everything else.
