And one that everyone should be able to answer, even if the answer is “I was born and it was there because my parents are Indian”. Although I am also expanding it, so if you spent your life watching Indian movies and not really thinking about it, and then as a teenager really really fell in love with one movie that got you seriously into the films, tell that story. Or if you have already told your Hindi film story, tell your Tamil or Malayalam or Telugu film story instead. Remember, I am giving away an SRK poster at the end of the month to the person who makes the most comments!

Well, it’s the B2 anniversary today. And I truly have NOTHING left to say about it. I’ll be reposting my index of full coverage in case you want a trip through memory lane, but in terms of thematic analysis and so on, I am empty. However, I can always write fanfic!!!! So the best I can do for new content is remix the plot and set it in different eras.
I didn’t even know they HAD a “Best Book on Cinema” category, and now it is ALL I WANT IN THE WORLD. I am sure it is limited to Indian citizens, but I will CHANGE CITIZENSHIP (at least temporarily) if they will give me this prize. I so clearly deserve it! My book is brilliant!
Can I cackle with glee at being correct, while still being depressed that the box office hasn’t sprung back? I think I can! Especially because the box office is bright depending on where you look.

I am almost done with the official Bahubali novel, and I have to say, my fanfic matches my feeling for the films much better than the novels. I’m not saying it is better objectively, just that the things I liked from the films (strong characters, moral quandaries, a magical world, romantic love) are what I am playing around with in my fanfic, while the “real” novels are playing around with some whole other thing (it’s like the movies, but with sex! I’m just cruising along with these character posts! Partly because, as I said before, they are more sort of discussion starts than the end all-be all. Every single moment of character development has been covered in the scene by scene posts, this is just gathering together some of the more interesting thoughts in one place. So I am back to my fanfic, featuring Anushka 2 (daughter of Prabhas 1 and Anushka 1, sister of Prabhas 2) and Rana 2 (illegitimate nephew of Rana 1 by way of Nassar’s illegitimate daughter). Welcome back to another Bahubali Theme Post! Now that I’ve gone through the big themes I could think of (Dharma, Male and Female, the Elements), time to really dig in and look character by character. And why not start where the films start, with Sivagami. (yes yes, I will use the character names for these posts, because it’s not about the finished film and the actor’s portrayal, so much as the characters conceived in the screenplay) (full index of all Bahubali posts, including this one, is here)
On the Monday Questions post, I was talking about fanfic, and how I think it’s especially common with Bahubali because this world is so rich. There are so many characters who just show up for a scene or two and their story isn’t fully finished or ended, so many settings that we don’t explore entirely, so many possibilities for the future that are left unknown. Anyway, that’s what it is for me. And one of those possibilities that I explored in both of my original fanfics was “Anushka 2”, the daughter of Anushka 1 and Prabhas 1, if Prabhas 1 had lived after Prabhas 2 had been born. And now I have become obsessed with her love story with Rana 2 (Rana’s illegitimate nephew by way of his father’s mistress’ daughter) (full index of all Bahubali posts, including fanfics, here)
I was trying to explain this to my father in the car after seeing the film with him. The difference between Dharma and Justice. And it’s a hard one to explain, if you aren’t already familiar with the meaning of Dharma. Because a quick one-to-one Hindi to English translation would actually be Dharma=Justice. Eid is on a Saturday this year, right? Which is very convenient for me! I can do a Tubelight first day-first show without having to take time off work. Even better, thanks to the time difference and convenience for theater owners, it might be playing in the US on Friday first show at the regular time I would see it anyway!
