I don’t know why I haven’t reviewed this one before, I love it very very much. Kajal Aggarwal is a delight, Ajay is Peak Ajay, and the police uniforms leave nothing to the imagination (the best kind of uniform). Oh, and it’s on Netflix!
Continue readingDiscussion Post: Best Songs For Enriching the Narrative
This is a suggestion from BollywoodNewbie/Alisa, which I am going to steal so long as I am still hacking my lungs out and unable to do “real” posts. What are the best songs for moving along a film narrative? Helping us understand the characters and situations better, not just creating a random unrelated moment? Or, to put it another way, what are songs that make you go “I really liked that, and now I want to know what else happens in the film”. And then you watch the film and aren’t disappointed, because the song accurately described what happened during part of the movie.
Continue readingBest Soundtrack and Best Song of 2018
Angie just reminded me of this category. I think I was planning to add it before being felled by the Cold of Death. But, better late than never! Vote in the comments, and also feel free to put in a “Write in” vote. The shortlist is just to help you remember options and narrow down your choices.
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me as I Am (Hopefully) Back At Work?
I’m writing this last night and I am honestly not sure if I will be at work tomorrow or not. Or maybe I will be for a little while and then have to leave. I can’t decide if I am at the point where it will make me feel better to get out in the world and out of my bed, or at the point where I should really just stay in bed. We’ll find out!
Continue reading12th Day of Christmas: 12 Drummers Drumming!
The final 12 days of Christmas post! Which I could probably skip, except it’s such a fun one I can’t resist.
Continue readingSunday ReRun: Ittefaq, a Very Well-Made Mystery Movie
Ittefaq! Really well-made movie. Not the greatest movie ever, but very very well-done. Worth revisiting.
Continue readingSilly Sunday: Ideas for BBC Style Period Dramas for India
I’m deep in my sick viewing of soothing BBC period dramas. Pretty clothes, pretty period houses, fruity British accents, and very slow moving plots. But surely India can give us all that and more? Just replace the fruity British accents with classical Urdu influenced ones. And a Silly Sunday post is a nice easy way for me to get back in the swing of writing.
Continue readingGood Evening! I Can Breath!!!!
Hello hello! I got 5 hours of sleep last night, went to my acupuncture appointment, and drank oodles of tea, and I think I might, maybe, be coming out the other side. Except now I’ve written that down and it is jinxed and I will be sicker than ever tomorrow.
Continue readingFriday Classics (on Saturday): Happy New Year! A Very Silly Movie, But Not a Dumb Movie
Were you thinking “boy, Margaret hasn’t posted anything at all for 24 hours she must be really sick?” You were right. I reached the point of asking my parents to come over and help me tonight, do laundry and dishes and bring me more orange juice. And, most humiliating, take Dog Hazel home with them because I am too sick to take care of her. But! I promised a Happy New Year review! Even if it takes me multiple little 5 minute spurts of clear thinking to do it. Oh shoot, wasn’t I supposed to do a TGIF post too? Ugh. I’ll repost something and come back here and keep going.
Continue readingSaturday Small Talk: What Fun Thing Are You All Doing While I Remain Super Sick?
I can’t believe I have had a cold for over a week. And it keeps getting worse! How is that possible? How far down the rabbit hole of illness can I go? It’s supposed to be just a cold! Those things only last a few days and you don’t even have to take time off work!
Continue readingTGIF RePost: Vitamin C Filled Post for My Cold Filled Body
I am never going to be healthy again. My sinuses hurt so much I can’t sleep, I was up until 6am last night. Not like tossing and turning up, but like actually sitting upright on the couch watching TV to distract me until 6am. And then napping fitfully until 10am. Anyway, Vitamin C! That will fix me!
Continue reading11 Pipers Piping! Desi Style
Well, I managed to make it 6 and a half hours at work today, sitting upright in clothes like a person, and then I gave up and went home and put on a bathrobe and ordered a ridiculous amount of chicken soup from “One of the Few Jewish Delis in Chicago” (that’s on the big sign in the window). I’m gonna manage the Happy New Year review tomorrow, because I promised you, but today is going to be all silly song posts, sorry. On the other hand, I got about $8,000 in unpaid bills for work in 6 hours of phone calls, so yaaaay! Work-work! Paychecks! Rent money!
Continue reading9 Ladies Dancing (a Day Late)
Sorry, I missed yesterday’s gift. And all the other days before. But it’s really the last four that lend themselves best to Indian film songs (ladies dancing, lords a leaping, pipers piping, drummers drumming).
Continue reading10 Lords a Leaping for the 10th Day of Advent!
Ha! I finished my Koffee post! And it wore me out, so it will have to keep you for a while in terms of serious posts. But this is a fun one, right??? 10 Lords a Leaping!
Continue readingKatching Up With Koffee: the Kapoor Kiddos!
Finally I am writing this post! It took long enough, I’m sorry. The Koffee posts are some of the most time consuming to write, and what with being super sick, I kept running out of energy to sit upright and be awake.
Continue readingWednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Thinking and Watching and Listening to in 2019?
Happy New Year! So lovely to have a nice fresh start every 365 days. Let’s all talk about how we have been spending the last week of 2018.
Continue readingNext Wednesday Malayalam ReRun Announcement, Jacobinte Swargarajyam
I’m hoping to get a new Malayalam review up sometime this week, but what with being sick and this that and the other thing, I can’t promise what movie it will be and when it will go up. However, next week I can promise a rerun!!!! And highly recommend it in hopes it gets new people to watch it. I’ll repost my review in a week, on Wednesday the 9th.
Continue readingSunday ReRun Announcement: Ittefaq! A Tight Twisted Movie
I was just browsing around and saw this was on Netflix and couldn’t resist encouraging you all to watch it. It’s so good! And so surprising and so well made and also, a bit short. Well worth a rerun of the review this Sunday, 1/6.
Continue readingThis Friday Classic Announcement! Happy New Year!
Why not, right? It is the new year, after all. It’s not a great movie, but it can be a fun movie, and I haven’t reviewed it yet.
Continue readingBest Producer/Studio of 2018
A new category! Let us recommend the person behind the people! The studio and producers who coordinate it all. Some of this are all in one type places, loads of money and studio space and all that. Some of them are more about the moral support and advice. But, who is the best? The one who picked the best most interesting films of 2018?
Continue readingBest/Worst Film of 2018: I Pick, and Then You Pick!
Fun times! We all get to try to convince each other which film was the absolute best and which was the absolute worst. And if there is a concensus in the comments, that film will get the great honor of being the DCIB Worst or Best of the year!
Continue readingDCIB Awards 2018!!! Best Hindi Film of Each Genre
Okay, calm down, I am aware that I am ignoring non-Hindi films. This is the area that I am nominating myself, and I haven’t seen enough non-Hindi to do it. Don’t worry, there is also a “write-in” option
Continue readingDiscussion Post: Which is the Best Sports Biopic?
All of a sudden after years and years of no biopics, they have become a plague on the Hindi industry in the past few years, especially sports biopics. So I am going to list out all the ones I can remember and describe their main themes, and we can decide which is the best one! Or at least, which you think is most interesting. And this will prepare us for the upcoming sea of more sports movies.
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What Do You Want To Ask Me, the Last Day of 2018?
Well, this is a depressing way to end the year. Fever of 100 degrees according to my funky thermometer. Or, possibly, 98.6. Or 93. I am not good at taking my temperature. Anyway, distract me and give me something to do as I wait for my body to burn out illness like a self-cleaning oven.
Continue readingLife Update (Big Take-Away: I might Feel Good Enough to Watch Koffee Tonight)
Another life update! It’s weird doing these, but it’s a little better than just putting up an announcement “sorry, no new posts” over and over again. I mean, it essentially is just saying “no new posts”, but with a little bit of entertaining life details.
