What a good movie! What a happy silly fun goodhearted movie. Once again, Nani has stolen my heart. You should all go see this IMMEDIATELY.

Recommendations Post: Happy Female Lead Films!
It came up in discussion that female lead films tend to be really dark. Which is true! But why should we watch a bunch of women be miserable and punished all the time? This is a post for us all to share recommendations for happy female lead films. And I’ll start with some of my favorites.
Continue readingFemale Films Week: Anand! The Telugu Film That isn’t Like The Stereotype of Telugu Films
This is such a good movie! Such an odd sweet pleasant happy movie, with a female character at the center of it who is an odd sweet pleasant happy woman. Really, watch it! It’s on Hotstar, you have no excuse.
Continue readingDear Comrade Review (No Spoilers): A Lovely Illogical Romance
I did it! A midweek movie! At a theater that doesn’t usually show Indian movies, and was still half full on a Thursday. So, woo-hoo Vijay Devaronda!!!! His career is growing by leaps and bounds.
Continue readingOh! Baby Review (SPOILERS): Gentle Misogynist Comedy
Oh dear, I did not like this movie. I don’t like not liking movies, especially when I think that some of you might like them. Oh well.
Continue readingOh Baby Review (No Spoilers): Best Part About it Is Samantha’s Costumes
Yesterday I treated myself to a double bill, because I had the day off work and it’s super hot so I wanted movie theater air conditioning. This was a kind of random pick based on showtimes and the trailer looking cute. I don’t exactly regret watching it, but I’m also not super happy I did.
Continue readingThursday Telugu: Mirchi Review Part 2, VERY VERY LONG
Like I said with Part 1, Mirchi was the first true Telugu film I watched, and I was super excited and wrote a very very long email to moviemavengal/Pardesi about it. And then a few years ago I took that email and turned it into a very very long review. Part 1 went up a bit ago, here is Part 2.
Continue readingThursday Telugu: Mirchi Review Part 1 (My First Telugu Review/Film! It’s Very Choppy)
The origin of this post is a very very VERY long email that I sent moviemavengal/Pardesi after I first watched this movie. So be aware that it is my reaction to my first regular real Telugu film ever, and I was very excited
Continue readingThursday Telugu: Srinivasa Kalyanam, Just Remember, the Hero is Always Right, and It Will All Make Sense
Well, Angie was right, this was terrible. The hero is always always right, against all logic of any kind. Or any sense of the realities of the world.
Continue readingThursday Telugu Review: Magadheera! Ram Charan’s Hair is Soooooooo Pretty
I watched Magadheera last night with a baby, her Grandpa, and her Mom. And we all agreed that Ram Charan’s hair is the best part of the movie. Soooooooooo pretty. Well, I think the baby agreed, she said something like “ba ba ba BAAAA!” when I asked her, and I am taking that for agreement.
Continue readingHindi/Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada 101 RePost: Rajinikanth Part 2, Homeless to Millionaire (in honor of the release of 2.0)
I already put up my part 1, which I am sure was not fully accurate and certainly not complete. But it is my stab at somehow pulling together what little I know into a cohesive whole, in the hopes that it starts a conversation and I can learn more from you all.
Hindi/Tamil/Kannada/Malayalam/Telugu Film 101 RePost: Rajinikanth’s Life, Part 1 Bus Conductor to Movie Star (in Honor of 2.0 Releasing)
Well, I did it! I finally finished my Rajinikanth biography! Now I just have the Savitri, Hema Malini, and Shashi Kapoor biography on my to do pile. Plus various other film books that aren’t star memoirs. Anyway, now I am ready to very tentatively try to put together some kind of narrative of Rajinikanth’s life, based on the movies I have watched (far more than I realized!), and this book, and information I gathered elsewhere
Tamil RePost: Robot/Enthiran! Read My Review of the First One Before the Second Releases; I did NOT Like It
I finally saw Robot! I think it might be one of those movies that you miss out too much if you don’t watch it at the exact right moment. Watching it now, just a few years later, the special effects seem dated, the song sequences not so great, and even Rajni Sir’s performance is not as good as it could be. Remember, I am coming off of seeing him in Kabali, where he not only played his age, he played a layered real complicated version of himself. I mean, this performance is great, the best part of the movie for sure, but I kept thinking “why are you doing this when I know you could do so much better?”
Happy Birthday Niki!!!! For Your Present, I Finally Reviewed Okkadu!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! I didn’t want to do just a rehash of last year’s post of your favorite things, so instead I made you something new, an Okkadu review!
Savyasachi Review (SPOILERS): The Right Hand Doesn’t Know What the Left is Doing, Plotwise
Nice little Telugu movie, nothing special, I just watched it for Maddy. If you might be interested in seeing it, definitely read the No Spoilers review and skip this one (the movie works a lot better if you don’t know what is happening next). But if you won’t have a chance to see it for whatever reason, you can read this instead.
Savyasachi Review (No Spoilers): Naga Chaitanya is Cute but Madhavan is Cuter!
What a fun movie to watch on a lazy Saturday! I spent most of the day in bed, and then zipped over to the movie theater (missing the first ten minutes of the movie), and then zipped back home and now I get to write a fun little review of a fun little movie.
Tuesday Telugu: For Prabhas Birthday, Darling
I finally watched it! What a delightfully silly inconsequential movie. There is no real “reason” to watch it, besides it just making you smile. Oh, and yes, as I was told, Prabhas’ rough voice saying “darling” is indeed addictive and delightful.
Thursday Telugu: Rajanna, Kill the Rich!
Well, this was fun! A movie I picked because a) it had Nagarjuna and b) it had the shortest running time of all the Nagarjuna movies on Hotstar. But it turned out to be a little more than just short and Naga-riffic.
Tuesday Telugu: Something Something, A Pleasant Farce with a Bad Heroine
Did anyone notice I missed last week? This was supposed to go up on Thursday, and then it got overwhelmed by Section 377 celebrations so I bumped it to today. And next week I am skipping again, sort of, because there will be the Kabali Rerun (watch it before Tuesday so you can join the discussion!).
Global Box Office: Hindi Film Loses Its Plurality
Interesting week! Nothing is happening as expected, the world is crazy and upside down, numbers are fun! (as always, numbers from bollywoodhungama)
Thursday Telugu Advanced Warning! Watch Something Something, That Will Be the Review Next Thursday
Attention Attention Attention! I watched Something Something and was going to review it today, and then Section 377 knocked it right off the schedule. So I decided to move it out a week and give you all advance warning, in case you wanted to watch it before I reviewed it. It’s on Prime, the review will go up sometime on the 9/13.
Hindi/Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam/Kannada 101: Rajinikanth Part 2, Homeless to Millionaire
I already put up my part 1, which I am sure was not fully accurate and certainly not complete. But it is my stab at somehow pulling together what little I know into a cohesive whole, in the hopes that it starts a conversation and I can learn more from you all.
Hindi/Tamil/Kannada/Malayalam/Telugu Film 101: Rajinikanth’s Life, Part 1 Bus Conductor to Movie Star
Happy Birthday Nagarjuna! Manam, The First Time I Saw You Onscreen
I LOVED this movie! This is going to be my new happy making comfort food film every time I get down. Everyone is happy and good and does good happy things and has good happy things happen to them. And even if something bad does happen, not to worry! You’ll just get another chance in your next life!
Happy Birthday Nagarjuna! Geethanjali, Your Mani Ratnam Film
Mani Ratnam strikes again! Another great romance with a complicated heroine and interesting supportive hero. Oh, and I am going to assume for this entire review that you at least know the big thing that is revealed 10 minutes into the film, so if you are obsessive about SPOILERS and don’t even want to know that, DON’T READ ANY MORE!!! But if you are fine with the 10 minute in reveal, but want to be protected from what happens in the remaining 113 minutes, keep going until the usual SPOILER marker.
