Woot, new Netflix contracts as of Jan 1! And Woot-woot, the success of RRR has made them realize they need more southern stuff.

Hindi Film 101: For Sai Pallavi’s Birthday, a Case Study of a Southern Heroine
I find the differences in how heroines start between industries FASCINATING. I can’t possibly cover every possible variation, but I can use Sai Pallavi as a jumping off point to talk about how it can sometimes happen.
Continue readingChristmas Week! Fidaa, a Great Film About Love and Home and Family
I think a few of you finally saw this thanks to it popping up on mainstream streaming sites recently? Welcome to the Sai Pallavi fan club! And the Sekhar Kammula fan club!
Continue readingRecommendations Post: Happy Female Lead Films!
It came up in discussion that female lead films tend to be really dark. Which is true! But why should we watch a bunch of women be miserable and punished all the time? This is a post for us all to share recommendations for happy female lead films. And I’ll start with some of my favorites.
Continue readingRandom FanFic: Better Romance Endings! 96, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Fidaa, Qarib Qarib Singlle, and Bonus Gully Boy Extra Romance
I need to write something I can stay focused on while being interrupted by phone calls every 5 minutes at work, and fanfic is where it is at. I get so sucked in so fast to my own stories that I can jump in and out a lot more easily than some stupid analytical post. Hopefully these are fun for at least some of you, since they are all just additions to movies we know. Oh, and obviously there are spoilers for the films’ real endings buried in my rewrites. Also, this is a very very long post, but you can always just read the ones where you know the original film already.
Continue readingValentine’s Week of Romance! Thursday Telugu, Fidaa!
The last Thursday review! We had 96, OK Kanmani, and now Fidaa. So many attractive men from the southern states.
Continue readingSnow Songs to Cool Me Down
You know how there is this crazy terrible extreme weather all over the world right now? Well, in my little part of the world, all that is happening is that we have a freakishly hot spell. Like, literally hotter right now than it was in July. Which is really nothing in the grand scheme of things, but still, I’M HOT!!!! And therefore, I am looking up songs to cool me down.
Tuesday Telugu: Fidaa, Makes the Hero Wait on the Heroine
Well, I watched it! Because, weeks and weeks after it’s release, it is STILL playing one show a week at my local theater! Which means I had the opportunity to see it, and also the curiosity, what is it about this movie that makes it keep playing and playing and playing? Besides what must be an extremely favorable per play contract with the theater?
Box Office: Mubarakan Money, Vikram Vedha Volume, Fidaa Phenomenal
Yeah, nothing is ever going to be as pun friendly as Tubelight. Even Toilet, when it comes, will be just too obvious, no scope for invention. And this week I have to make do with alliteration. (background on box office available in my big discussion post here, as always, full figures available at bollywoodhungama here)
Box Office Report: Munna Michael is Not the One
Does that headline work? I debated it for quite a bit. I think it does. Anyway, Munna Michael isn’t even really the big news this week, because we all kind of knew it would flop, that’s not exactly “news”. No, the news is over in the Punjabi world! And a little bit Tamil and Telugu.
Trailers! Southern Trailers! I May Have To Spend $$$$$ and See These in Theaters
I don’t have a super lot to say about these trailers, but I am really hoping that you do! Because I need to learn more about these movies and decide if it is worth it to go see them in theaters. Because, you know, Tamil/Telugu movie tickets are big bucks!
