This is partly an update on my scientific study of “hey, let’s see what happens if I actually bother to take simple supplements instead of dragging around complaining about life!” And partly just a random songs post of things that start with “D”.

Saturday Small Talk: I Got Into My First Fender-Bender, How Is Your Weekend Going?
Happy Saturday! I have a dog, and a busy schedule, and now a dented up car. Blargh!
Continue readingI Guess We Have to Talk About “Sucker”
Congrats, Priyanka! You’ve done it again, you’ve forced me to talk about you and all of us to think about you. And I was so happy just talking about my new dog! Speaking of, “Nick” as a dog name?
Continue readingTGIF: In Honor of Jennifer and Shashi, Adorable Photos of Movie Stars With Their Non-Famous Partners!
No Twinkle and Akshay, or Aish and Abhishek, or even Anushka and Virat or Rajkummar and Patralakha. I want just the couples where one of them is a famous and beloved public figure, and the other is unknown and along for the ride.
Continue readingDog Names Post! Be Ready to Be Brilliant!
Well, I’m stumped. The little guy is still nameless, and I need something to yell at him when he has to come. I need help!
Continue reading9 Shahrukh Khan Films You Can and Should Avoid
This was a suggestion on the Salman Khan post, and it makes so much sense! My little innocent new viewers could easily stumble into terrible terrible films that will turn you off the star forever. This is your “here be dragons” warning against the films that, while perhaps still enjoyable to folks who already know a lot, are really not appealing at first blush.
Continue readingI Get to Get a Dog Tonight!!!!!!
I didn’t want to jinx it, so I’ve been keeping this from you, but I found a promising dog on Tuesday night, applied for him, got approved on Wednesday, and am going to pick him up after work today (Thursday).
Continue readingDiscussion Post: What Are Indian Movie Songs That Work Best Out of Context?
Follow up to yesterday’s post on songs that work in context, what are ones that work best out of context? That are creepy, or funny, or just illogical if you see them in the movie, but if you watch them without the movie surrounding them, are delightful on their own?
Wednesday Malayalam ReRun: Parava, My Most Recent Shane Nigam Review
Last one! And the film most similar to Kumbalingi Nights, even connected to the other main cast members with Soubin Shahir directing and Sreenath Bhasi doing a cameo. Plus, the theme of men growing up, this time a young boy and a young man and their father, instead of 4 brothers.
Continue readingWednesday Malayalam ReRun: More Shane Nigam! C/O Saira Banu, where he takes a backseat to Manju Warrier
All Hail Hotstar!!! Greatest Website/App/Alternative media source in The World!!!! I picked this film basically at random out of the almost a thousand options available to me. Because I vaguely remembered hearing it was good plus, Manju Warrior!!! And it is good! And it is Manju Warrior, like ALL Manju Warrior! Her character is the whole film.
Continue readingDiscussion Post: What Are Songs That Work Best in Context?
I suppose I could have down the other option, “what are songs that work best out of context?” Maybe tomorrow! But today, I am curious about in context songs. Sexy, romantic, happy, funny, whatever it is, comes through in a whole different way if it is seen within the rest of the movie.
Continue readingWednesday Malayalam ReRun: Shane Nigam Day! In Honor of Kumbalangi Nights, My 3 Other Shane Reviews Starting With Kismath
I really liked Shane Nigam in Kumbalangi Nights. The other actors were good, but as good as I expected them to be, Shane impressed me because I have seen him grow film to film. So I thought I should repost reviews of those old films so we can think back together on how he has improved by leaps and bounds as an actor.
Continue readingUpcoming Movie Reviews: Dhoom Week! I’m Doing All 3 Next Week!!!!
My thought process went “I need to take vitamin D-should I take the D2 or the D3 compound?-ha! ‘D3’ and ‘D2’! That sounds like the Dhoom movies!-wait a minute, those films would be perfect pick me ups while I am in winter and needing more sunshine-I haven’t reviewed any of them! I should do them all in a row and have a marathon!” So, here we are, I am scheduling a marathon. Next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, a new Dhoom movie reviewed every day.
Continue readingMore Hot Songs! Songs That Will Definitely Raise Your Temperature (if you are a heterosexual woman)
I’ve done fire, I’ve done deserts, and yet the snow and weird cold snap keeps coming. I guess the universe is waiting for me to do “hot and steamy inside together” songs.
Continue readingA Dozen Salman Khan Films Outside the Standard List
This is HARD! Salman’s filmography is so vast, and the “standard list” so small, that almost everything he made falls outside of it. Especially the way he reinvents himself every few years making his “standard” films a complete different collection. Anyway, I look forward to lively discussion as we all fight about where Lucky: No Time for Love should be!
Continue readingIt’s Local Election Day! Guess Who I am Voting For!
This is so exciting! It’s all super local elections, but they are all really good choices, so I get to pick from the best of good options. Also, most importantly, I get to see the inside of the super weird and funky Croatian Community Center again.
Continue readingMore Hot Songs! Desert Themed This Time
It is “desert” not “dessert”, right? I always get confused between the two. Anyway, Angie suggested desert songs to go with my fire songs, and while I still prefer fire for heat, it is also freakishly cold right now (seriously, the forecast says well below freezing into the beginning of March), so I will take any option.
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What do You Want to Ask Me the Last Week in February?
Happy Monday! I survived the weekend! Even without a dog! Although I did have the idea of a dog, since I spent all of yesterday driving around looking for it.
Continue readingI’m So Cold!!!! How About Some Hot Songs to Warm Me Up?
Long story short, still no dog! But I got to spend a fun 10 hours driving literally all over the city to church, the pound, a series of adoption events, and finally the movie. And then milk on the way home. But because I was planning on getting a dog, I dressed up for the dog, and it is way WAY too cold for a dress today. And now I am still completely freezing even after being home for 20 minutes. So, time to pull out some hot songs to warm me up!
Continue readingPlan for the Day!!!!
Okay, thanks to the late night burst of interest, I have to see Kumbalingi Nights. Part of the reason I wasn’t planning to is that the last 3 times I made an effort to see a Malayalam film in theaters, no one was able to see it and discuss on the review, but I guess that’s not a problem this time! But this means my day suddenly becomes quite complex. Let me see if I can lay it out for you.
Continue readingSunday ReRun: Don 1 and Don 2! Two Films in Search of a Third
Don 1 and Don 2!!!! Super fun movies, both to watch and to talk about. Also, BEWARE! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!! And these are movies you definitely don’t want to spoil
Continue readingHappy Saturday Evening! I Saw Gully Boy Again and Got a Pedicure!
Happy Saturday! Again! I had a nice indulgent day in an effort to stave of SAD which mostly worked (yes, I am considering talking to my doctor at this point, so if you have been secretly thinking I should do that, you can relax), and I was also super lazy and didn’t bother putting up any substantive blog posts.
Continue reading20 Madhuri Songs Outside the Standard List
I’m taking my parents to see Gully Boy! Because it is so good, it is Mom and Dad good! Which means I will be gone much of the day, so I’m gonna throw up a fun post for you all to read today.
Continue readingSaturday Small Talk: What Happy Things Can We Talk About While I Get a Pedicure?
I wrote a big serious post last night, and now I am rewarding myself by having a pleasant day. I’m going for a pedicure, and then my accupuncture, and then a movie with Mom and Dad. And in the meantime, you can all talk about happy things! It’s Saturday, a day for fun.
Continue readingHindi Film 101: Hegemony, Politics, and Star Studies, or the Strange Case of Shahrukh Khan
Ready to get a whole bunch of media theory dropped on you? Fun fun fun!!!! Oh well, there’s a good bit about Shahrukh too, so that’s a good time. And hopefully this is more of a “thank you, I could feel that happening but couldn’t articulate it” post and less of a “well, that’s depressing, I had no idea” post.
