Writing the 10 Historic Epics post got me thinking about the movies that are set in the past, but not so they can do a big historical fight scene, more for purposes of putting this particular story in this particular time and place, whether it is a semi-fictional biography or a completely fictional invented story.

Two News Items Too Big To Ignore: National Film Awards and New Shahrukh Stills!
Long time readers may have noticed that my news round-up posts have been less common lately. I am sooooooooo busy writing up Hindi Film 101 and answering Monday questions and all my other new-ish features that I haven’t had as much time for news. But today there were two big things that I just can’t ignore! Both of which I learned about through twitter (I do still follow @iamsrk and @karanjohar and all the other big newsmakers of the industry)
TGIF: Rangoon Inspired Post, Men in Uniform!
I’m with holding judgement on Rangoon as a whole, but I am whole-heartedly behind Shahid Kapoor in a WWII uniform! We already got a hint of Shahid in uniform in Mausam, but not nearly enough. And not enough of men in uniform in general. More uniformed heroes! That’s what I say.
Best Actor of 2016 is One You Didn’t Even Notice
I was debating who to give this to, Anushka or Alia or Shahrukh, and then I realized, just because I was thinking of them, that meant they were ineligible. Because in every part I was very aware of who was playing the role. No, the real best actor of 2016 is one who was in 4 of the biggest hits of the year, and you didn’t even realize it was the same person.
News Round-Up: Box Office, Casting Musical Chairs, and Sarkar 3
Nothing terribly surprising in box office, so I am mashing it in with a couple of other stories as well.
News Round-Up: Box Office, Badminton, and BABY!!!
Slowish news day. Just a few box office reports and some Olympics reactions. And also, BABY! Is Salman’s nephew the cutest baby in the film industry today? Possibly!
Rustom Review/Summary: Whole Thing! With Spoilers! It’s Almost all Exposition
I was thinking I would do a full summary for this film, like I usually do for a major release. But then I started thinking about it, and the whole movie is basically exposition. There isn’t nearly as much to talk about as usual in terms of visuals or dialogue or character moments. So I’m going to skip through it pretty quick and just lay out what happened. If you don’t want to bother seeing the movie, but are curious about how the plot plays out, you are in the right place! (if you just want a regular review, look at my first Rustom post)
Rustom Review: Akshay is Perfect (NO SPOILERS)
I saw Rustom! FINALLY! I was out of town this weekend, so I couldn’t see either release until Monday night. And tonight I am going to Mohenjo Daro after work. And then I will be free until Happy Bhaag Jayage comes out next weekend. The Independence Day to Republic Day release schedule is just exhausting!
Box Office Report: Rustom Wins!!! By A LOT (Per Screen)
This is FASCINATING! The screen numbers are all upside down! Mohenjo Daro had way way more screens, and yet Rustom still made more money! Very impressive, Akshay Kumar!
News Round-Up: Peace Between Hrithik and Akshay, Sultan Crosses 300 Crore, and Amitabh and Aamir to Unite
My favorite kind of news headlines today, the ones that combine big star names with juicy industry news!
Rustom Trailer is Out! YAAAAAAAAY! It Looks SO GOOD!
It was just announced yesterday that it would be attached to Sultan, and I guess they decided to let it out a few days early online. Whatever the reason is, I don’t care, I’m just glad I can watch it!
Happy Week Before Sultan/Eid! Assorted News Items in the Run-Up to Release
Before Fan came out, I talked about how a lot of the news seemed to just sort of stop in anticipation. Because people knew the media and fans would be so focused on the big release, they weren’t be spending much attention to unrelated news. Same thing happening here! A lot of news items tangentially related to Sultan, minimal items not related at all. And I’m not interested in those anyway (I’ll pay attention to IIFA once the performances start being posted on youtube), so I am ignoring everything not Sultan adjacent.
