I forgot about this post until reflects on life reminded me of it! And now I think I will make it an annual tradition, to update and repost it on Valentine’s day.
Valentine’s Day! Day of love! And for that reason, a good day for a one of post just about love stories. The two kinds of them, the socially relevant ones in which the romance is just a jumping off point for a broader social issue, and the fun fun fun ones that just make you smile.
I was going to do a “100 years of history in 10” list, and then I realized there AREN’T actually 10 jodis of equal level. So I am just going to introduce you to the really really big ones and without worrying about how many I include or putting them in order or anything.
I’m continuing to crank through the small time actresses, the ones who only need a few movies to fully understand their careers. Because it’s a lot easier than trying to deal with the male stars and their longer careers, or the handful of super successful actresses (sorry Rani! I’ll get to you someday!) (last small time actress post here)
I already put up one random actress post based on the first people I remembered off the top of my head. This time I want to bring together a whole bunch of random smaller actresses that I can cover quickly. With some fairly random suggestions of films you could watch to get an idea of them, since all their films are kind of the same, one film is as good as another. This should kind of fill in the background players of the industry, the minor artists who help bring it all together. Continue reading →
I could give you an elaborate reason why I felt the need for this post, but there really isn’t one besides “my views are down thanks to Thanksgiving and I want something that will get us all talking”. So, starter kit for male stars!
I put up a post about the 3 phases of an actress’ career in Hindi film (Starting Out, Established, Married), and then I also put up a post about starter films to get to know actors. And I was puzzling over how to do a post about actresses, since they really don’t have the same kind of massive career backlog as actors, and I thought “Aha! I can combine the two posts!” So that’s what I did, here are some of the top actresses divided into their 3 career eras (or 2, depending). I could have kept going on and on, but I ran out of energy, so I stopped at 7. I’m sure I will be back with more.
Okay, Asmita in the comments suggested this, but I am a little nervous about it. Because I really really don’t know as much as I should about the non-Hindi industries. And I know SO MUCH about Hindi that I am going to have a hard time limiting myself. But we will see how it goes. Oh, and after you watch all of these, you can just put something in the comments if you want more recommendations based on your favorites, I would LOVE to do that. But this is just the start, I have so much more knowledge to give.
