Chekka Chivantha Vaanam Review (No Spoilers): A Film As Cold As a Glass Mansion

That was a very elaborate process!  Getting to the theater from work, buying the ticket in advance so it wouldn’t be sold out, and on and on.  But, worth it!  Not as good as the best Ratnam film, but far better than the worst (Kadal).

Happy Mani Ratnam Day! Starting With Kaatru Veliyidai, His Most Recent Film

Happy Mani Ratnam Day!  I’ve reviewed almost all his films here (really, I’m just missing Raavan, Thiruda Thiruda, and the Terrorism Trilogy) and I will be reposing the reviews through out the day today in the run up to Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.  Mostly because I have to work a funny day at work to be able to see CCV in theaters so I’ll have no time to write anything new.  If you don’t want to be spoiled, here is my no-spoilers review for this film.

Silly Sunday 2: Sci-Fi Film Remakes, The Fifth Element to Martian Chronicles, Shahrukh to Dhanush

More suggestions from you!  Suggestions that also turned into reading recommendations for me, fun fun!  Oh, and plot ideas for movies I really want to see made, whether the stories are translated out of the sci-fi realm or not.

Lazy Tuesday Discussion Post: Recasting Favorite Sci-Fi Books with Indian Actors

I thought the long Shahrukh interview post would give us plenty to talk about, but there aren’t that many comments over there.  From which I can only assume, no one loves Shahrukh any more.  I am sure he is desperately refreshing the page thinking “surely SOMEONE has something to say about me!  Surely it can’t be that no one is interested any more?”  Anyway, since you all find Shahrukh boring, I will bring up a new topic for us to talk about.

Bonus Silly Sunday: The Woman Who is Dumped, What Happens to Her?

I just wrote about Dil To Pagal Hai, and the general consensus in the comments was that we don’t want Karisma and Shahrukh to get together,  because she deserves better, someone who really truly loves her as much as she loves him.  And then I started thinking about the other strong interesting women who got dumped by the hero just because they weren’t his “true love”.

Padmavat Full Summary (SPOILERS) Part 3: A Lot of Filler, and then a Bad Life Lesson

Next part!  I think I am on the downward stretch now.  Partly because there is an awful lot of what feels like “filler” starting with this section.  So I can skip all kinds of things, or at least only deal with them briefly. (full index of Padmavat here)

Padmavat WHOLE THING! Part 1 (SPOILERS): Ostriches and Pearls and Brahmins, Oh My!

This is a tricky one, on the one hand there is so much in it that I really want to go through step by step and make sure I don’t miss anything.  On the other hand, there isn’t enough in it (and I don’t want to spend so much time) for me to do a “real” scene by scene, shot by shot, style discussion.  So I’m gonna do kind of a half one.  Sort of like I did for Bajirao.  Go through everything that happened, but not in super detail. (no spoiler review is here)

Starter Kit: Actresses, Part 3, Soha to Lisa

I’m continuing to crank through the small time actresses, the ones who only need a few movies to fully understand their careers.  Because it’s a lot easier than trying to deal with the male stars and their longer careers, or the handful of super successful actresses (sorry Rani!  I’ll get to you someday!) (last small time actress post here)

Kaatru Veliyidai SPOILERS Review: Jail Isn’t the Only Prison You Need to Break Out Of

Good morning!  I posted my no-spoilers review late last night after I got home, but now I have had a good night’s sleep and  is time for my SPOILERS review.  Which gives the full plot and really really digs into all the meanings of it.  And there is a lot to dig into in this film!
