Ready for a thought post? Of course you are! Thought posts are the best! Or at least, I like them.
Continue readingFemale Films Week: Anand! The Telugu Film That isn’t Like The Stereotype of Telugu Films
This is such a good movie! Such an odd sweet pleasant happy movie, with a female character at the center of it who is an odd sweet pleasant happy woman. Really, watch it! It’s on Hotstar, you have no excuse.
Continue readingWednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to During Female Films Week?
Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the work week and it is really dragging me down this week. Sooooooooo many conference calls.
Continue readingBandini: A Story About a Woman, for Men
This is a classic, if you are talking women lead pictures in India you have to discuss it. But I don’t like it. So this will be an odd review.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Shahrukh Rain Songs! Which is the Best One?
It’s rainy and tired and bleh here today, so I am going to use my energies wisely and create a post of every single rain song in Shahrukh’s entire career. For The Good of Humanity.
Continue readingKhayyam, the Music for the Poetry
What an interesting death to wake up to. Someone who was very very old and revered but also a little bit forgotten. And now I, and everyone else, am inspired to learn about and write about him.
Continue readingFemale Lead Films Week! I’m Finally Going to Review Bandini!
Okay, I came up with another theme! Not a great one, but one that should give us a decent mix of movies over the next 10 days, straight through to Saaho. And force me to finally review/watch a few classics.
Continue readingRewrite/Discussion Post: Big Little Lies, Good Omens, The Act, Dead To Me, Stranger Things, GLOW
This is me being lazy and sleepy again. I’ve been on a binge of limited streaming serieses over the past three weekends (yes, I could have spent that time watching movies, but then I would have had to pay attention instead of blogging while I watched). And they all are more or less acceptable for Indian remakes, and also more or less popular among the readers here (based on how many times they’ve come up in comments so far). So, this is a place to talk about them! Indian recasting, why they could/could not be remade in India, general thoughts, all fair game!
Continue readingShahrukh Summer Discussion Post: Which Movie Roles From Other Actors Would We Like to See Him Play?
I had a 7am phone call at work this morning, meaning I left home at 6:30am, meaning I am not thinking super straight right now and deep thinking is not going to be happening today. So I’m gonna start off a Shahrukh discussion post and hope you all can think for me.
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week After Blinded by the Light Came Out?
Happy Monday! I had to come in to work 2 hours early today, and I was up way too late last night writing the Blinded by the Light reviews, so I an wiped. Do not expect coherent answers necessarily, but I will try my best.
Continue readingBlinded By the Light Review (SPOILERS): That Moment When Your Whole Life Opens Up
What an interesting movie! The plot isn’t really a “plot” as such, it is just a series of things that happen to our hero after he starts his journey to finding his own identity. I recommend reading my No Spoilers review if you want to avoid spoilers, but honestly, reading this review first won’t “ruin” the movie for you, because it is about so much more than plot.
Continue readingBlinded By the Light Review (No Spoilers): Art That Unlocks the Door to a Shared Humanity
I watched it! And boy, it is way easier to watch a British movie than an Indian movie, it was playing at like 5 theaters within 15 minutes of my house, instead of the 3 theaters within an hour and a half that I am used to. The same is probably true around you, so you have no excuse not to go see it.
Continue readingSunday ReRun: Befikre, an NRI Romance in France
The more I think about this film, the more I like it! It’s not a deep serious movie and it isn’t trying to be a deep serious movie, and for the farce it wants to be, it is really well made.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer/Silly Sunday: Tabu and Shahrukh Fun Comic Romance Adventure, Two Versions from Me and Emily!
This idea comes courtesy of Emily who requested a fun silly adventure where Tabu gets into wacky scraps and Shahrukh has to keep rolling his eyes and then coming in and rescuing her. And then she wrote a fantastic multi-starrer herself and let me add in a tiny bit myself. Oh, and we both ended up casting Saif, which is perfect since it was his birthday last week!
Continue readingNRI Week: Jacobinte Swargarajyam, the Dubai Immigrant Experience
I have no idea why I love this movie so much. But I do! And when I started thinking about NRI Week, I knew I had to include it.
Continue readingHappy Late Birthday Saif! Let’s Look At My Favorite Songs of Yours!
I suppose I could try for some objective overview of his career kind of thing. But, naaaaaah. I’m just gonna do my favorite random Saif songs, from the mullet era to the beard era.
Continue readingSaturday Small Talk: Chat Away While I Get a Cheap Facial!
Happy Saturday! I have a lovely day planned that involves lots of public transit and a cheap facial. Best way to enjoy the city.
Continue readingI Just Wrote a Post on Shahrukh as a Leather Daddy, Promote Me!
Monthly reminder post, blah blah, I’m getting a headache. Kind of related, staring at a computer screen does it to me and using social media really does it to me, both from the flickering screen and the stress. So help me not make myself sick! Promote me!
Continue readingNRI Week: Dostana, Friendship is Fun and Fabulous
This is a movie that is endlessly enjoyable, if you don’t expect it to be realistic. Or logical. Or smart. It’s just Fun.
Continue readingTGIF: Shahrukh Summer, a Quiz, Leather Daddy or Dad Wearing Leather?
This is a follow up on yesterday’s excellent post. I sent it off to my Professionally Queer friend (drag king, works at a queer history museum) for analysis which lead to a discussion of whether any of those photos could legitimately be considered “Leather Daddy” or not.
Continue readingDonation Reminder: I Saw Mission Mangal So You Don’t Have To! Give Me Money!
So tired. Such a bad movie. Surely I have earned a tip from you all for putting myself through that?
Continue readingMission Mangal Review (SPOILERS): A Movie Too Dumb To Know It is Dumb
Blech! This was such a bad film! BLECH!!!!!!!!!! I just want to vomit thinking about it. You probably shouldn’t watch it.
Continue readingNRI Week: Ranam! Desi Moter City
Shoot, I think I just reposted this a little bit ago. Oh well, it is still good and worthy of getting the review posted again.
Continue readingMission Mangal Review (No Spoilers): Akshay, SHUT. UP.
I think this might have been the most unpleasant movie I have ever watched. It was like having wooden stakes driven under my nails for 20 hours. Needless to say, I do not recommend it to you. And if you read my posts regularly, you know that it is a rare thing for me not to encourage you to see a movie, so take it seriously.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer Discussion Post: New Shahrukh Ad, For Happiness
I felt kind of silly doing this post after I JUST did that post of Shahrukh in leather. But then, it’s not like my audience will run out of Shahrukh interest, right? And why put off for tomorrow joy we can feel today?
