FilmFare Awards: I Resent Writing This Post Because This Award is Just a Popularity Contest and Doesn’t Matter, But Fine, Here You Go

Akshat in a comment just reminded me to talk about FilmFare awards, and said there is some kind of controversy this year, which blech. Get ready for Margaret to be very bitter and angry about people who get upset about stuff that doesn’t matter. But only after first laying out why it doesn’t matter and my own lukewarm opinions.

Match Up the Oscar Types with Indian Film! Who is the “It Girl”? Or the “Old Woman We Forgot Was Still Alive”? Or “the one who was nominated once and is really great on the red carpet so we keep inviting them”?

You know the Oscars aren’t really about objective quality, right? There’s all kinds of things that go into it, that end up with the exact same kind of people and things on the list every single year. As a mental challenge, I am going to break down the categories I see and then we can see if you can find them in Indian film. And to make this hard but not impossible, I’m gonna limit it to 2018-2019.

Women Directors Week Sequel Post: Sequels for Zoya and Reema, Gauri, and Tanuja; Luck By Chance, Talaash, Dil Dhadakne Do, Gully Boy, English/Vinglish, Dear Zindagi, Qarib Qarib Singlle

I’m still fighting off a case of the Mondays, and nothing cheers me up like fanfic! And this is fun fanfic, the ones where I don’t have to come up with characters and stuff, I can just piggyback on characters we already know and love.

Discussion Post (Because No One is Commenting and I Have Writer’s Block): What Do You Think is the Best All Time Indian Film Soundtrack Album?

I was all set for people to get angry with me for my Hindi Film 101 on class and Kangana, and nothing. And not really any comments on my Super Deluxe review either (if someone wants to link back to it from the Bardwaj review page as an example of a review that is critical of the film, that would be great). Anyway, when the comments drop down, so does my ability to think abstractly and intelligently and I end up putting up stupid posts like this in an attempt to get a response from the void.

Box Office Report: Badla Does Blockbuster!

I took a little box office vacation the past several weeks, but obviously I had to come back to see how SRK’s new movie did!!!! (data from bollywoodhungama here) This is a pretty light post, because I am planning and writing a more in depth discussion of SRK and Red Chillies to go up separately.

Random FanFic: Better Romance Endings! 96, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Fidaa, Qarib Qarib Singlle, and Bonus Gully Boy Extra Romance

I need to write something I can stay focused on while being interrupted by phone calls every 5 minutes at work, and fanfic is where it is at. I get so sucked in so fast to my own stories that I can jump in and out a lot more easily than some stupid analytical post. Hopefully these are fun for at least some of you, since they are all just additions to movies we know. Oh, and obviously there are spoilers for the films’ real endings buried in my rewrites. Also, this is a very very long post, but you can always just read the ones where you know the original film already.

Gully Boy Review (SPOILERS): The Poor Don’t Drag Each Other Down, They Lift Each Other Up

This is a movie that is about the music and the moments (Zoya is such a beautiful director) more than the plot. So it isn’t that bad to SPOIL yourself. But if you want to go into it keeping some of the tension of not knowing what will happen, you can skip this review and read the other one instead.

Gully Boy Soundtrack Song By Song, Artists and Background Explained

Emily posted a link to a really interesting article about how the Gully Boy soundtrack was put together by multiple musicians with every song different (article here). That got me to listen to the soundtrack and go “wow, every song IS different!” And that got me to want to write this post, where I go into the musicians behind each song.

Upcoming Movies: The Next Film of Amitabh, Rajinikanth, Ranveer, and Dhanush

Lots of first looks!  Which are always kind of “how is this news?” but sometimes slightly interesting.  These were slightly interesting ones.
