If you like Indian films, you will like this movie! It’s magical, it’s heartwarming, it has romance, and massive song and dance numbers! And, DOLLY PARTON!!!! Also, I really really REALLY need people to talk about it with.

Bollywood Wives! Things I Want to Talk To You About!!!!
My goodness, this is a dumb show! SUCH A DUMB SHOW! All these people are crazy and none of them have JOBS!!!! We must talk. Also, I feel very awkward because it is so mean to be talking about these real people. But they put themselves on the show, right? So it’s okay?
Continue readingThinky Post: The Cowardice of Choosing the Impossible Task Over the Possible
Oh boy, a thinky post! Turns out, when I get to write whatever I want, I want to write a bunch of really depressing deep thoughts.
Continue readingChopsticks Review (SPOILERS): A Little Fable of a Girl and a Guy and a Goat
What a very pleasant little movie! Not a perfect movie, not a deep movie, not even that involving of a movie much of the time. But very very pleasant.
Continue readingChopsticks Review (No Spoilers): A Pleasant Little Film, No Songs But a Great Heroine
I finally watched it! Over a year after it released on Netflix and most other people saw it! But whatever, in this strange world of sliding release dates and straight to streaming products, I am still giving it a “no spoilers” and a “spoilers” separate review.
Continue readingBollywood Wives Netflix Trailer, Let’s Talk!
OMG, this show looks like such trashy fun. Even if (I’m guessing) Shahrukh will appear for 30 seconds with no dialogue and Gauri will appear for 5 minutes in one episode and never again.
Continue readingLudo Review (SPOILERS): Love Conquers All
This movie is super fun and surprising, you will really enjoy watching it without knowing what is going to happen. So just relax and know it is generally a happy ending, watch the movie, then come back her to discuss it AFTER you have seen it.
Continue readingLudo Review (No SPOILERS): A Movie About Love and Happiness
Yaaaaay! A good happy movie! If you want a film that is satisfyingly well-made, and has a nice happy love and kindness message, you should watch this! I was very worried, because it is the kind of film that can suddenly turn dark and angry without warning (like, Super Deluxe). But no! I can report that it stays in the zone of “the world is ultimately just and people care for each other”.
Continue readingGinny Weds Sunny Review (SPOILERS): Why Does Vikrant Massay Have to Turn Into a Big Old Jerk?
I watched it! Out of curiosity after I got super mixed reports from y’all. If you like light silly farcical rom-coms made on the cheap with up and down quality, then you will enjoy this movie, whether or not you Spoil yourself here. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And if you don’t like them (especially with a flawed hero character), then you can still spoil yourself!
Continue readingGinny Weds Sunny Review (No SPOILERS): Light Movie With Light Misogyny
This was fun, I watched it with my friend movie group, and we had quite a bit to snark to share.
Continue readingCargo Review (SPOILERS): If Death Does Not Matter, Does Life?
What an interesting movie! It feels like it must mean something when you first watch it, and then you decide it means nothing, and then you decide it means everything. It’s an exciting journey.
Continue readingCargo Review (No Spoilers): A Small Experience of Timeless Peace
What a pleasant movie experience! I’m not sure what it means, or if it “means” anything at all, that’s for the SPOILERS review. But what I will tell you know, which is that this is a very calming pleasant strangely peaceful movie watching experience. If you need two hours of peace in your life, I recommend this film.
Continue readingDolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare Review (SPOILERS): Are Male-Female Relationships Inevitably Toxic? This Film Says YES!
Well, this was kind of a downer of a movie! Happy, in that I am glad these stories are being told. Sad, in that BLECH! These stories have so little hope! Anyway, if you don’t feel like being depressed, you can just read my summary and discuss below instead of watching it for yourself.
Continue readingDolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare Review (No Spoilers): An Indian Woman’s Life is Constant Misery and Pain and Compromise
Well, this is a total downer of a movie! The posters and even the title sell it as more fun happy women together sort of thing, it’s more of a “life sucks and then you die, having scratched out one small piece of happiness for yourself” kind of thing. Watch if you want a very well made and well performed version of a woman’s life in modern urban India, don’t watch if you want escapism.
Continue readingMasaba Masaba Reviews (SPOILERS): Second Half of Season, Through to End!
Either it took me a second to get back into the rhythm, or the start of this second half was kind of “off”.
Continue readingClass of ’83 Review (SPOILERS): Stay for the Twist Ending
Well, the movie was fine, low budget and quick moving and all that. But the overall arc of the story was really interesting in a way that makes me want to read the book it is based on, because it doesn’t go quite the way you think it will.
Continue readingClass of ’83 Review (No Spoilers): Solid Netflix Level Movie
In my post about all the new movies hitting streaming, I picked this one out as one that was always planned for Netflix. And now I’ve seen it, and it really really feels like a movie that was always planned for Netflix.
Continue readingMasaba Masaba Trailer! More Fictional Than Real, and I Like It!
Thank you Kirre! For telling me this was available and making me watch it. And now I have watched it, and it is quite fun.
Continue readingDiscussion Post: Recommend Feel Good Streaming Serieses!
Feeling the need to inject a little more happiness into our “Happiness Place”! So, anything from anywhere that makes you feel good about the world when you watch it. That genre of “look, it’s nice people doing nice thing because the world is good” show that is total pandering to the audience, but also a nice corrective to all the “people are trash” messages we get in other shows.
Continue readingRaat Akeli Hai Review (SPOILERS): A Film Noir Romance
Have you been craving romance in your films? Surprisingly, you may be able to find it here! A little bit dark and less fantasy than usual, but still here. If that intrigues you, go watch the movie and then come back here and tell me how wrong/right I was.
Continue readingRahul Bose Day! Bulbbul, His Most Recent Feminist Female Directed Anti-Hero Role!
Rahul Bose does not like to make it easy for us to like him. Or find him. He’s going to hide himself away in the female directed low budget movie with the weird off-putting topic. Like, child-marriage. Fun!
Continue readingAll About the 17 New Indian Netflix Movies Announced for Release
Thank you Angie for alerting me to this! As always, I have Opinions. Oh, and also information, it’s kind of a funny ragbag of products all mixed together.
Continue readingAxone Review (SPOILERS): When Even the Smallest Things Are Hard
I already put up a No Spoilers review, I recommend you read that if you want a sense of the film as a whole to decide if you want to watch it. This is the review for those who have already seen it and want to discuss it.
Continue readingBulbbul Review (No Spoilers): A Dark Fairy Tale that Gives Lie to the Candy-Coated History of India’s Past
Well, Anushka continues her producer mission of ripping off the covers from India’s sins of the past and present. Yet another harrowing painful examination of the patriarchy and the unrelenting torment of being a woman in India. It’s handled delicately, but there is a rape scene. And a scene of terrible male on female violence. Just disturbing stuff. Watch with the lights on during the day, don’t watch at all if you are feeling wobbly.
