Baazigar Part 6: Even More Baazigar-y!

Poor Baazigar!  I started this over a week ago, but I keep getting distracted by Sunny Deol (Ghayal Once Again opening soon!  Which means I need to track down a copy of Ghayal the first one before that somehow!), and by new movies (check out the review and synopsis of Airlift), so Baazigar keeps getting short shrift.  Plus, it is so haaaaaard to write!  Compared to the next 3 SRKajol films, which I know so well I can basically write them in my sleep.

So I am going to do my darndest to actually run this thing out to the end so I can coast through the DDLJ–KKHH–K3G goodness, followed by the massive depression and sobbing of MNIK.  And maybe throw in some bonus friendly appearances along the way (Did you know they have a scene together in Duplicate?  Has anyone but me actually seen Duplicate?).

Airlift Full Summary! Part 2: Details Details Every Where (also, Spoilers, duh)

So, I saw Airlift on Friday, and it was really shockingly good.  Like, logical plot, great period details, sophisticated filming, all sorts of cool things.  And they all combined to do a great job of evoking the reality of living in a war zone.  Which is a terrible thing to experience, even through a film, so if you want to avoid that, read this instead!  Or if it isn’t playing near you, or if you are bored, or whatever.  The point is, I am recreating the experience of watching the film without actually making you watch the film.

Airlift Full Summary in Detail! Spoilers All Around

I saw Airlift last night in a packed theater, and it was actually good!  But very real and sad and scary.  And it’s not playing in that many theaters globally.  So, if you can’t find a showtime near you, or if you are too scared to see it (if I’d known what it was like, I would have been!), or if you would just rather read about it than kill 2 hours in a theater, Read On!

I am moving so slowly through this thing!  And I don’t know why.  Well, I kind of know why.  It’s because the plot is soooooooooooooo complicated that I feel like I can only go through about two twists before I have to pause for everyone to go “wait, what happened?”  Kind of like Dickens writing for newspaper serials instead of novel readers.

We ended the last section on a HUGE twist, so lets move forward and see what slightly smaller ones await us here.  Oh, also, I am once again writing DVD-less at work, so forgive any slight mistakes!

As I explained in part 1, I’ve been in kind of a Sunny mood!  Not like I am feeling particularly happy (the opposite in fact, winter sucks and work sucks and Christmas is over), but in a mood to watch Sunny Deol movies.  So, I started with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and then I walked back to Jeet, and then all the way to Manzil Manzil.

I have been on a bit of a Sunny Deol kick lately, not sure exactly why.  Possibly it is just my brain playing tricks, because it is overcast and disgusting where I live and I just want it to be “Sunny” in my apartment somehow!

Speaking of homonyms, a friend’s little sister pointed out that “Sunny Deol” sounds exactly the same as “Sunnydale” where Buffy lived.  Which is true!  And just strange!  Is it possible Josh Whedon is secretly a 80s Indian action superfan?

Anyway, I have just watched 3 Sunny movies, none of which are worth a full recap, but each of which is worth a quick summary hitting the high points.

Now I am worried, because I saw something somewhere else that indicated that Karan-Arjun came out after Baazigar.  But I am pretty sure they started filming it first.  So I am going to say my re-watch is in order of SRKajol filming interactions, rather than actual release dates.

LOC Kargil: More Patriotic Sentiments!

After a brief break for lunch and recovery from an overdose of patriotism, I continue!  This movie really does have the best heroic lines in it.  I’m not even Indian, and its getting me all caught up in it!

Definitely getting more and more pumped for Airlift, especially since Akshay Kumar is about the only star who did NOT get to play a real life Indian hero in LOC Kargil.  So it’s nice he is getting his chance now!

Run-Up to Republic Day: The Best One-Liners from LOC Kargil

Happy 10 Days before Republic Day!  And 6 Days before Airlift comes out!  To celebrate, I have pulled out my “Vande Mataram” film pack.  I could watch Lakshya and swoon over Hrithik in uniform, or The Legend of Bhagat Singh and swoon over Ajay in a hat, but somehow I am just feeling LOC Kargil!

LOC Kargil covers the “Kargil War” or “Operation Vijay” which lasted from May 3rd of 1999 to July 11.  So, a 10 week war.  The Pakistanis crossed the border in Jammu and Kashmir, India sent troops and pushed them back to the other side.  So, a game of Kabaddi, but with guns and in the mountains.  But I am not here for the incredibly detailed account of the war, I am here for every single hot actor of 2003 taking turns delivering awesome tough guy one liners, while in uniform!

Now that I have finished with Karan-Arjun, it is time to start the synopsis of the next SRKajol film!  In chronological order!  I wasn’t actually 100% confident that Karan-Arjun was before Baazigar, but #21yearsofKaranArjun was trending a couple days ago, so I guess it was!  I’ll expect for #21yearsofBaazigar to pop-up shortly.

Anyway, Baazigar!  The film that got Shahrukh his first FilmFare Award!  Onward!

Inspired by Dilwale, I am going through all previous SRKajol films in exhaustive detail!  Karan-Arjun turns out to not be that Kajol-y, but it makes up for it by being super Salman-y.  And super Amrish Puri-y.  And super 90s-y.

Wazir synopsis/recap: Whole First Half! All Spoilers!

So, I put up a bullet point version of this already (the notes I dashed off as soon as I got home so I wouldn’t forget), and a quick spoiler-less review.  And the second half of the recap is now up also, it is here.  And now, it is time for me to give a complete detailed summary!  For those of you unable, or unwilling, to see it in theaters!  Or if you want to see it, but to have my in your head with you whispering opinions the whole time.

I can tell you, without spoilers, that the best part of the whole experience was the truly tiny little girl with an itsy-bitsy little pink coat and bitty-baby pink boots who waved her microscopic little hand at me in the hall on the way out.  If possible, try to recreate that when you go.

So, part one had babies, part two had Kajol, part 3 had “Jaati Hoon Main”, what do we have in this part?  Well, lots of cool violence!  That’s nice, right?  Plus, one very very short SRKajol scene that, frankly, doesn’t even work that well.  Really, come for the SRKajol, stay for the bodies flung through car windows.

Okay, the last section was AMAZING and had the first onscreen meeting of SRKajol, and basically was the high point of the entire movie.  But the rest of it is okay too, and they do have a few more scenes coming up as well, plus a song (yes, the header image tells the truth, it is time for “Jaati Hoon Main”), so it is worth reading!  And worth my writing it!

So, I did part 1 yesterday, and boy was that cathartic!  I thought I would hate spending so much time with a movie I disliked, turns out I was able to get all the venom out of my system.  Well, most  of it, there are still 2 parts to go.  So really, just a 3rd of the venom.  If you also feel venomous towards this film, or if you really really loved it and want to know why I didn’t, read on!  If you loved it and don’t want it ruined, don’t!  I am quite nasty.

So, yesterday I started a synopsis of Bajirao Mastani and it got very few views.  Today, I’ll be continuing that, and also posting the first part of my Karan-Arjun rewatch synopsis.  Let’s see which more people read!
