Oh, and it’s still worth watching even if you read the SPOILERS review just for the performances, but the plot will have more impact if you go in fresh. I had to do a bit of running around to see this movie, and abandon my adorable dog for half the day (she didn’t notice I was gone. She’s not that smart), but it was worth it, because this is a surprisingly good film.
Happy Cinco de Mayo! A Mexican holiday, which inspires me to find every vaguely Hispanic song in the history of Indian film. There are not many. But I was able to find a thematic 5 videos.

Obviously, today is Star Wars day. And so I am reposting my Star Wars fanfic post
A movie I have been meaning to watch for ages, based only on how pleasant the opening song is. But somehow I’ve never gotten past that opening song until just now.
I don’t want to talk about this news story in depth just yet, because it feels like there is going to be more to it that hasn’t come out yet and I am waiting for that. But I also don’t want to miss out on your thoughts and opinions, and possible knowledge of what I am missing, so I will put this up for us to use for discussion and then a “real” post possibly in couple of days when it has played out more.
Happy Thursday! I suddenly remembered that I had a Labor Day themed post I should rerun, and then I realized it was left over from September not May, the American Labor Day. Oh well, it’s a good post, I’m sure you won’t mind seeing it twice in a year.
Yesterday the new Badshah song for Veere Di Wedding came out, which made me think back on how long hip-hop/rap has been part of the Indian film scene in one way or the other. I know almost nothing about this (like, I’m not even clear on the difference between “hip-hop” “rap” and “rock and roll”), but at least I can put up some fun videos and start the discussion!
Time for a Netflix update! Which I only do once a month or so, so it’s not up to the minute accurate. But hopefully I make up for that with the descriptions I give them. So many trailers today! And also, good buzz for 102 Not Out. Shoot! I was thinking about taking a week off from watching movies, or else going regional instead. Oh well, I probably would have wanted to see it anyway just for Rishi and Amitji’s reunion.

I finally saw a Vikram movie! And my goodness, he is good! From what I can see, this isn’t a very good movie of his. But he is far far more entertaining even in this than the other actors I have seen.
May day, in addition to being the international day of labor, is also the international day of “hanging flowers and candy on your neighbor’s doors”. And the Maypole dance and various other obviously pagan spring rituals. But whatever, it works! Spring keeps coming! And to that end, let’s enjoy some pretty spring flower songs.
Anushka is 30! And still younger than me (just like she was last year, such a coincidence!) and has accomplished so much more. Oh well, such is aging. (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
