This is a very silly movie, which is also kind of terrifying at certain points (THE PUPPET! He’s right behind you!!!!). But, most important, it’s on Netflix! Check it out and enjoy it.

Silly Random FanFic: Overboard! Rewritten for India, Plus Gender-Swapped!
I have TV again thanks to youtube, which means I am seeing Overboard on a constant repeat, the way TV tends to play it. And I am thinking, once again, how easy it would be to fix this and make it the totally perfect plot. And so long as I am doing that, why not set it in India?
Continue readingThursday Tamil: Vettai! Madhavan and Arya in Police Uniforms for 2 Hours. And It’s On Netflix!
This was such a cute movie! Everyone was just so nice to each other and supportive and not mean. Even all the family dynamics that in another movie would be the source of much drama and trauma were just kind of laughed off. By the movie, but also by the characters. No lingering resentments or quest for vengeance, just a sort of “well, that’s how they are and that’s fine.” kind of attitude.

So many little little stories today! I don’t want to try to tie them together and they aren’t really worth deep discussion on their own, so instead I will throw it all out there and let you discuss.
Continue readingFor Mohit Suri’s Birthday, a Case Study in a Working Director
Mohit Suri! Not a brilliant once in a lifetime genius, not a guaranteed blockbuster director, just a solid hard working person of the type that makes up the backbone of the industry.
Continue readingTwitter Report! SOTY2, SRK Selfie, Amitabh Goat
This is really just because Amitabh’s tweet made me laugh out loud and I wanted to share the smile. But might as well through in the SRK selfie and SOTY2 images too, just for funsies!
Continue readingHindi Film 101: PewDiePie Versus India and “Funny” Racism
Well, this just got fascinating! At least, I think so, I am having a hard time finding confirmation of this news story, so either I am super ahead of the curve, or it isn’t reliable. BollywoodHungama is reporting that the Indian Supreme Court issued an order to youtube to take down some PewDiePie videos. And I hope it is reliable, because it is FASCINATING.
Continue readingWednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to This Week?
Happy Wednesday! Everyone at work was feeling sick yesterday, but I have hope that they will all be better now. Or at least I will be, went to bed super early last night.
Continue readingJaya Day Grand Finale! Zanjeer, Watch Jaya and Amitabh Fall in Love on Screen
I know this is the film that invented the Angry Young Man. I know it is a Big Story about power and the state and so on and so forth. And that’s why I enjoy it and respect it the same way I enjoy any of the other Amitabh classics, Sholay or Deewar or Trishul or Agneepath. But the reason I love it just for me, is because Jaya and Amitabh are SO IN LOVE. Like, so in love that it is blinding. It’s not a surprise they got married as soon as they finished filming, it would have been a surprise if the DIDN’T get married.
Continue readingAbhimaan! Jaya Bachchan Gives Judy Garland a Run for Her Money in an Indian Version of A Star is Born
Kind of related to Secret Superstar, right? Another movie about a female protegee of a successful musician. But completely different in every other way. Anyway, an interesting film to talk about!
Continue readingMore Jaya FanFic! Marijuana Grandma, Wild Divorcee, and Late in Life Romance
Jaya! Come back to work and make these movies! I think they would all be wonderful.
Continue readingHappy Jaya Day! Kal Ho Na Ho, Her Grand Return to Form as a Matriarch
I really really like this movie, for many reasons, but it wouldn’t be nearly as good as it is without Jaya Bachchan.
Continue readingSilly FanFic ReRun: Mad Miss Manton and Terry Pratchett and Murder She Wrote
The surprisingly large number of responses I got to my Garbo-themed remakes post inspired me to repost this. Plus Mad Miss Manton was on TCM last night. And Murder She Wrote is always in my heart. And Terry Pratchett really did write the perfect character for Shahrukh.
Continue readingNew Madhuri Song!!!! Not As Good As The Best, But Better Than Nothing!
FINALLY!!!! The thing we have been hoping for all along, ever since Madhuri was cast as a courtesan, an actual new Madhuri dance number. And, it’s not the best. But also, not the worst!
Continue readingTime Machine Casting for Jaya, She Would be the Perfect Leslie Knope in a Remake of Parks and Recreation!
If I had a time machine, I would do many important things. But after doing all of them, I would stop by Jaya in the 1970s and cast her in a movie version of Parks and Recreation.
Continue readingHappy Jaya Day! Mili, in Which Jaya Encourages Us All to Choose Hope
Happy Jaya Day! I’m going to repost some of her reviews, and her fanfic, over the day. Won’t that be fun????
Continue readingHappy Birthday Allu Arjun! Rudhramadevi, Your Historical Where You Steal the Screen
If you live in America, Rudhramadevi just made it to Netflix, and you should definitely watch it! It’s like Bahubaali, but with a feminist message and really really bad CGI. But I like the message so much, I can look past the CGI.
Continue readingHappy Birthday Allu Arjun! Happy, Taking a Backseat to Genelia D’Souza
I watched Happy! Because I wanted Bommarillu and I got confused. But this one was still cute. Is it possible there is a whole genre of “Genelia D’Suoza rom-coms”? Just because she has such a young perky face, she ends up in cute young perky love stories?
Continue readingHappy Birthday Allu Arjun! Desamuduru, My Least Favorite Hair
Another Allu Arjun film! Am I remembering right that his hair changes frequently? Unlike most male stars, where the hair and the whole look is kind of part of their brand? If so, I think he should keep changing, because this look is not the best.
Continue readingHappy Birthday Allu Arjun! Gangotri, Your First Movie
This is one of my Netflix movies, and I have no memory of why I added it to my list. I’m sure I had a good reason. Possibly that it was an Allu Arjun movie with Prakash Raj, maybe one of you recommended it, or maybe I knew at one point that it was his first film. If I ever knew, I’d forgotten by the time I watched it. And now I can’t believe it! He was so good!
Continue readingHappy Birthday Allu Arjun! Aarya 1, The Ultimate Stalking Movie
This is one of those movies where I am watching it thinking “is the message I am seeing on purpose or an accident? Or an purposeful accident? Is it just where the characters ended up or was this the goal all along? Or did the writer start thinking of it as a statement on film relationships and not realize it was a statement on real ones too?” I think it is probably the last, because I started thinking about it in terms of film too, and then realized that it works just as well for real life. And, in fact, hits exactly my issues with the way culture treats female safety.
Continue readingAllu Arjun Day! Aarya 2, the Ultimate Allu Arjun Movie
Happy Tuesday! A fun movie to talk about this week, one that was recommended to me ages ago and I am just now getting around to thanks to Moviemavengal reminding me about it. (I know the two films aren’t really related, but if you want to see my review of Aarya 1, it is here)
Continue readingHappy Allu Arjun Day! Starting with S/O Satyamurthy
I am getting more and more fond of Allu Arjun with every movie. He has this attitude like he is playing someone playing a movie hero, you know? It’s all just slightly exaggerated, and I love it.
Continue readingKabir Singh Teaser: Shahid is as Good as I Expected
Yep, this is an Arjun Reddy remake all right. Shot for shot, moment for moment. And is that good or bad?
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me This Week? (also, Albie Dog photo)
Happy Monday! I had a weird weekend with a lot of driving around and then a sudden burst of energy to finish my quilting project at the end. Still have to go to quilting tonight, kind of happy to be back at work and normal life.
