Continue readingThursday Telugu: Dear Comrade, My Favorite New Telugu Romance
This is such a dumb dumb movie. But dumb in a particular way that I think a lot of you reading this might enjoy, so I keep encouraging you to watch it!
Continue readingSongs For When You Are High
Oh wow I feel weird. I almost fainted at work and decided to come home. I was so far out of it that it took me a few hours to realize I was getting a super strange migraine. My head doesn’t hurt, but I keep seeing monsters in my room and the colors and shapes are all wrong looking and I’m walking into walls. Which, I understand, is sort what happens when you take intoxicating substances. Which I never do, because my migraines are so exciting, why should I look for excitement anywhere else?
Continue readingWednesday Malayalam: Peranbu, The Messy Reality of Parenting
An odd movie. Good on Mammootty for agreeing to be in it and doing such a good job. Good on the filmmakers for not pulling any punches with the reality of what they were showing while still being hopeful.

Continue readingMy Sick Day Viewing, Fascinating True Story With Anupam Kher Playing a Role-BBC Miniseries Mrs. Wilson
This is amazing! Ruth Wilson playing her own grandmother in the story of her grandfather who was both a scoundrel and a brilliant actor, probably where Ruth got it. Anyway, I have to share the story in case you don’t want to watch it and also because it is so fun to imaginary recast in India. And also my brain isn’t working because Sick, and recasting is easy. Also, SPOILERS! Avoid if you like limited BBC historical miniserieses midcentury true stories/Ruth Wilson
Continue readingI Have A Cold, Blech
I remember back when I was young, I would have a cold and just power through like it was nothing. And then I turned 30 and somehow a cold became a “I want to spend the day in bed” thing. Or the night, 4am and I am still awake feel achey and sad and burny.
Continue readingImportant Discussion Question: What Young Actor Smolders?
I like it when we can address and solve these complicated issues, just in case someone from the Indian film industry needs help with these questions and stumbles across DCIB.
Continue readingHappy Bisexuality Day! Characters Who Romanced Men and Women in the Same Song
This is “Celebrate Bisexuality Day”. So it seems a great time for a post about those songs that make you go “wait, does the hero/heroine have more chemistry with his friend or with the heroine/hero?”

What a surprisingly good movie! There were still moments that could have been better, the ending dragged, etc. etc., but overall it is still a very good film. I can whole-heartedly recommend it.
Continue readingSilly Sunday: Stories Inspired By Song Videos, “Bang Bang”, “Love is a Dare”, “Ishq Shava”, “Janam Janam”, “Rock ‘n Roll Soniya”
You ready for a silly lazy idea? I’m gonna take a bunch of songs out of context and invent the movies they should belong in, because they don’t quite work in the movies they are in. Feel free to jump in with more ideas in the comments!
Continue readingThe Zoya Factor Review (SPOILERS): A Rom-Com With a Heroine Who Loves Too Much
Don’t worry about spoiling yourself. It’s a rom-com, it’s only gonna end one way. It’s not about the surprises, it’s about enjoying the journey. Read this review, don’t read it, I don’t care.

Continue readingShahrukh Summer/Happy Birthday Kareena: Which is Your Favorite Kareena-Shahrukh Song?
They are an okay onscreen couple, although I still find them more like brother and sister than a romantic couple. However, they are really well-matched in songs! Both with moderate dancing ability but a lot of hard work and energy onscreen.

Continue readingHindi Film 101: 3 Discussion Topics Pulled out of Recent Reviews; Acid Attacks, Brechtian Art Theory, and the Suffering Artist Fallacy
When I am writing a review, I often branch off into Deep Thoughts inspired by the topic of the film. They are related to the film and belong in the review, but they are also above and beyond the film. Since my last two reviews have gotten soooooooooooo few views (Uyare and Nenu Naa Rakshisi), and I put a lot of work into those big thinky parts of them, I decided to do something a little different and pull out those sections from the reviews and give a new post to discuss just them. Oh, and also the section of my Rockstar review which was similarly abstract.
