Hindi Film 101: Love Between Men in Indian Cinema

Oh boy, a Big Thought post! As always with these posts, every single point and discussion is TM Me, so if you find yourself repeating them somewhere else on the internet, please please give proper attribution. There is nothing more depressing than when I end up on some other site and realize a post or comment is just my ideas repackaged and relabeled under someone else’s name.

War Review (No Spoilers): Gayer Than Top Gun

Yes, I am aware that is an extreme statement in the headline. But I stand by it! Tiger and Hrithik have successfully out-gayed Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. If that sentence intrigues and excites you, you should watch this movie. If it makes you go “huh? wha? Top Gun was gay?” than this film is operating on a whole other level that you may never grasp, and this review is not for you. SO GAY!!!!

Shahrukh Birthday RePost: Shahrukh and Irrfan in a Passionate Late in Life Relationship

Well, MKY pointed out at in the comments on my Friday post that Shahrukh would never play a same-sex romance, or the father of a marriage age daughter, or a polyamorous man in 3 relationships.  To which I said “well, that’s what fanfic is for!”  So if Shahrukh isn’t going to give us these films in real life, I feel I have an obligation to give them to us in fanfic form.

Section 377 is No More! Again!!!

This isn’t really “my” victory, because I’m not Indian. I had nothing to do with changing the country and the way people feel, and I shouldn’t even be celebrating really, because there is still so much I should be doing in MY country and I shouldn’t be distracted by celebrating something in another country.  On the other hand, I do care about people in India, so I can celebrate for them and be happy for them.  And then go back to working for my own people.

Silly Sunday: Happy Pride (Repost)! Many Many FanFics, Including Shahrukh/Arjun and Rani/Vidya

You understand that I mean “gay” as a genre, not an insult, right?  Kind of horrible that I have to make that clarification.  There used to be a movie store in the gay neighborhood of my city that had a series of shelves called “Neighborhood Favorites”.  Which was their little pseudonym for movies with same sex romantic plot lines.  So maybe I should say that instead, all the Khans, plus Amitabh, should be in “neighborhood favorite” movies.

TGIF: Happy Pride Weekend! Let Us Look at the Gayest Images in Indian Film

Oh Pride!  The happiest weekend of the year in terms of fanfic/silly content.  The saddest weekend of the year in terms of not having loud drunk people sit next to me on the train.  At least this year I have no reason to leave the house (my church lemonade stand/marching group can get along without me!), so I can just huddle up indoors and work on my epic Pride themed fanfic.  I’m going to try to hit all the letters, L and G and B and T and Q and maybe H.  If Indian film isn’t going to serve that audience, it is up to me to fill in the gap!  Anyway, a great TGIF post topic, I think we can all agree.

Happy Pride Day! Let’s Talk About What We Can be Proud About in Hindi Film!

There is more than you think!  I’m not just talking about Dostana, or Kal Ho Na Ho, or Dunno Y…Jaane Q, or Bombay Talkies, or Margarita with a Straw, or even Fire.  In the whole history of Indian film, there have always been those people off to the side, being themselves and being Queer.
