This was another disappointing Malayalam film. Not because of bad politics or misogyny, just because of a kind of rambling plot and characters that changed direction too quickly. Still happy catchy songs and pretty pretty places, but overall not great.
Netflix List for April! Tamil Arrives
Time for a Netflix update! This is a list of every film on Netflix as of today, it could be wrong again tomorrow, I don’t update it that often. BUT! I give you the added benefit of descriptions and recommendations for each film, so you aren’t going in blind based on the unreliable Netflix info. (Accessbollywood.net does the real work of keeping this list updated, you should definitely absolutely subscribe to them for your day to day updates.)
Dil Dil Dil Dil (Not Pickle): Heart Songs!
Grandpa’s got a cardiologist appointment today so, for luck, and also to turn this whole stressful weekend into something fun, get ready for a whole blizzard (how is it also snowing today?) of “Dil” songs!
Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want To Talk About the Week of October in April?
Happy Monday! Time for questions to distract me from a very hectic weekend! And, more importantly, to distract me from possibly not having time to write a new blog post today, at least not for a while. Although I can respond to comments. So, you get to provide your own content! Fun fun fun!
Happy Birthday Jaya!
Happy Birthday Jaya!!!! I’m not doing a full 69 reasons I love you, because I am lazy, but I can’t just leave it at a dozen. So let’s say 15, for the age you were at your first big film role.
Stressful Weekend, Sorry So Few Posts
I made it! Sunday night! I thought I would never get here. But I did, and I am in bed, and tomorrow morning I get to go to work which will be strangely relaxing after everything else.
Happy Early (or Late) Birthday to One of My Favorite Commentators!
You let slip in a comment that you were turning 35 this month, which made me immediately hop over here and write a birthday post for you situated at a random point within April. So I am either early or late in terms of the actual day, but please remember I am in fact overall early since this post comes to you from The Past back in March. UPDATE: You just let slip in a comment that your actual birthday is today! So now I get to post this on time.
Silly Sunday: Jaya’s Birthday Week! Romances and Marijuana and Cheated Wife Films
Jaya is turning 70! She gets her birthday post tomorrow, and maybe some special reviews this week (depends on how busy I am). And today, she gets a re-post of the stories I wrote for her last year. Jaya! Come back to work and make these movies!
Help Me Pick Out a Dog Name!
Sorry, not many posts today, I’ve got family in town and I spent the day looking at dogs. So to keep you entertained, I am putting up a discussion post. And also because I am TERRIBLE at naming things.
DDLJ Part 45: A Morning Birdfeeding
I’m back! At long last! The last section kind of broke the pattern, turned into a long deep character study of Amrish Puri, so I needed a little break.
Happy International Beer Day! Drinking Songs!
What an odd holiday! But kind of a fun one to find songs for, right? Ideally they would all be beer songs, but I don’t know if that is possible.
TGIF: Puppy Players! Famous Movie Roles Recast With Puppies
Well, this is a ridiculous post. Inspired by my finding a photo of the most evil puppy I have ever seen. Clearly a super villain in training.
Friday Classics: ABCD, for Prabhudeva’s Birthday!
I thought about doing something for Salman and his court case, but I wasn’t in the mood to write about any movie with him, and besides that seems like kind of a downer. So instead, Prabhu’s birthday celebration! And a movie which is very good at the very specific thing it does.
Box Office Youtube Video, No Dog and No Opening Credits
Why even watch? The whole point is the dog! Really, this is just the same as what is on this post, but in video form so I can get readers to click over from youtube (hopefully). You can skip it, since there is no dog to see. Although you can see my DVD shelf behind me, that’s fun.
Salman Khan In Jail for 5 Years (Maybe)
Well, this is news. Or maybe not. Salman has been sentenced to jail a lot, and then somehow it ends up not happening, so I just don’t know.
Bonus FanFic Post: April Fools! Plots Based on Tricks
I cheated you out of a real FanFic post on Sunday with just the one short thing, an I’m in the mood now, so I thought I would dash off some ideas for you to help me flush out. The idea this week is April Fools, harmless practical jokes that lead to complications.
Global Box Office: Baaghi Bags Screens, Bluffs Box Office; Ram Charan is KING!
Box office! A day late because I got distracted by the John Abraham story yesterday. (figures, as always, courtesy of bollywoodhungama)
Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking This Week?
Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the work week, very exciting. Also the last day I get to have coffee (following my own rules that allow coffee on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday but no more because then I stop sleeping). So, enjoy “perky Margaret” today and prepare yourself for “depressed and energyless Margaret” tomorrow.
Tuesday Telugu: Ashta Chamma, a Telugu Twist on One of My Favorite Plays
What a fun recommendation! Thank you Moimeme! An unassuming movie that is great on many levels.
Hindi Film 101: KriArj versus John Abraham, Professionals Versus Artists
I’m so excited! I love contract dispute news! It’s almost as much fun as box office number analysis. So, indulge me, while I dig in.
Happy Birthday Prabhudeva!
Woo-hoo! Prabhudeva’s birthday! 45 reasons to love him, and an excuse to post A LOT of Prabhudeva songs! And maybe a few facts scattered in. But not many. (I know you may not have time to watch all the videos I put in this posts, but some of these are truly not to be missed, so the ones in bold you MUST WATCH!!!)
Monday Malayalam: Zachariayude Garbhinikal, Misogyny is Alive and Well in God’s Own Country
Well, this is depressing! I went for a new film, with Rima Kallingal, thinking I would be safe from that horrible strain of really gross misogyny that runs through Malayalam films. But, no! Still there! Even in a film from 2014 with one of the strongest actresses working today.
Happy 41st Anniversary to My Parents!!!!
Last year they got a big post doing their whole romance in film songs (you can read it here). But that was for their 40th, which is a big deal. This is just their 41st. So this year I think I will just talk about their actual wedding.
Monday Morning Questions on My Parents’ Anniversary!
Happy Monday! And Happy 41 Years of Marriage to my parents! Last year was a big deal, but now it is just kind of “whatever” until they hit 50.
April Fools Songs! Songs With Trickster Heroes
I debated a long time over how to celebrate this holiday, because I don’t like playing tricks on people, I think it is mean. But movie characters aren’t as nice as me, so I will celebrate by putting up a bunch of songs in which the movie people play tricks.
