You know that feeling when you are at a party and everyone else is sharing a joke but you missed the beginning and aren’t sure why they are laughing or if it was actually funny? That’s how I feel about Commando 2. Suddenly it’s everywhere, and I have no idea what it is or why I should care!

Global Box Office: Rangoon is an Also Ran, and I Meet a Kannada Movie Star!
Well, Rangoon is definitely the top pick for the weekend. But it was a terrible terrible weekend, so that is not saying much. The only big hit per screen was the one with inflated ticket prices (more on that later).
Box Office Report: Apparently, I Am the Only Person Who Liked Running Shaadi Better than The Ghazi Attack
Global box office is out! And, gosh darn it, Running Shaadi did terribly. Oh well. At least I liked it! (as always, figures from Renttrack by way of BollywoodHungama)
Box Office Update: Raees Breaks the International Box Office in Order to Re-form It
Global figures are out! Actually they were out on Monday, but I forgot to check. It’s been so long since I cared about figures! Because we had weeks of “Dangal does awesome, not really news” and then “OK Jaanu does terrible, still not really news.” But now, news! The first week of Raees and Kaabil, how did they do? (figures, as always, come from Rentrack by way of Bollywoodhungama)
Dangal Global Box Office: Expectedly Good, But Imagine What it Could Have Been if Disney Promoted it?
Poor Aamir. I don’t know if it is even possible for him to surprise us at the box office at this point. Once you reach the limit of how many tickets are even available to sell, and they all sell-out, well then there is no where else to go! (figures are, as always, from Rentrack courtesy of BollywoodHungama)
Global Box Office: Befikre Be Financially Not Good!
Oh dear. I liked it! But apparently, not many other people did. Even worse, Aditya seriously over-estimated the American screen count. Not good!
Box Office! They Know that North America Had a 4 Day Weekend, Right?
Global figures are out for Dear Zindagi! Yaaaay! And it did best in North America! Which has no significance whatsoever because North America had an extra 2 days in the weekend! And on the other hand, had a lot of competition here! But being a hit in Australia, now THAT is significant! (as always, the figures come from Rentracks courtesy of Bollywoodhungama)
Box Office, Censorship, and Casting News
Massive combined post! Because I am trying to end the day/first year of blogging at exactly 999 posts, so I can’t split this up. But I also don’t want to ignore any of these stories!
Box Office: Rock On 2 Does Terribly, Not Because of Demonetization, But Because It Is Terrible!
Woot! Global box office is out! Which is completely unaffected by the demonetization of India. Which means the Rock On 2 producer’s arguments that it is only doing badly because people can’t buy tickets don’t hold up at all.
Box Office Update: ADHM Drops Off at Home, Soars Overseas
Yay, second weekend box office is available! And that global-local/multiplex-singlescreen divide is popping up, just as anticipated. Really, these films are not going to clash, besides me, there just aren’t that many people who would be interested in both.
Discussion of ADHM by Someone Smarter Than Me (also Box Office)
You know I shouldn’t be your primary source for Indian political and other hard news, right? Because I don’t have a strong background in that, and more importantly, I’m not a journalist. If anything, I’m an analyst. I take news other people have already reported and put it together in interesting ways. Anyway, moviemavengal just tweeted me an article that does all the hard news work of the ADHM protests for me. Check out this link.
Karan Flexes His International Muscles
Overseas Box Office report is out! Woo! And it proves either that Ajay has failed, or that Ranbir is the rising star, or really it’s all about Karan. I’m pretty sure it’s all about Karan.
ADHM and Shivaay News From the Front!
Little bits of news have started to burble out, as they do during opening day of major releases. What did the public think, how are ticket sales, etc. etc. And, of course, are there massive violent protests or not?
Weekend Box Office: Hilariously Bad
It’s been a bad fall. Because, as my continuing series of posts indicates, the industry is STUPID. Constantly giving too much money and screens to big dumb films, and not enough money and screens to small smart films. But this weekend is so bad, it’s just funny!
Box Office Report! Dhoni is Bringing In People For the Story
Global figures are out! Dhoni did well, but it seems to be driven more by Cricket interest than by Sushant Singh Rajput interest.
Global Box Office Report: Such a Strange Pink Pattern!
Let’s be real, was anyone expecting any kind of a hit for Banjo? No, right? No matter how many songs you release or how hard you promote it, no one is turning out for a Ritiesh and Nargis starrer.
Box Office Report: Pink is a Hit! (Really?)
As you may have noticed, I did not see Pink. It just looks toooooooooooooooo depressing! Plus, I wanted to see a Malayalam movie for Onam. But, even though there is no Pink review here for you, I will still give you Pink box office figures.
Baar Baar Box Office and Aamir’s New Look!
Global figures are out for Baar Baar! And Bollywoodhungama says that they are “dismal”, but I’m not seeing it? But maybe that’s just because I am missing some extra information, like how big was the budget and how much were the distribution rights sold for. Oh, and also a new weird photo of Aamir
Baar Baar Dekho Quick Overseas Figures
Ouch! You read for what you don’t want to hear about your big budget heavily promoted fancy A level movie? “less money than Baaghi“. Ow ow ow ow ow!!!
News Round-Up: Box Office, Vidya in US, and Hrithik Gets Hacked (again?)
It’s the Hrithik story that really delights me, and so long as I am writing about that, I thought I might as well hit some others.
News Round-Up: Early Box Office, Sonam Versus Balaji, and Amitabh and Aamir!!!
As I said in my review, I really really liked Akira. So I am delighted to hear that the box office is picking up a little! Almost as delighted about confirmation for the Amitabh and Aamir rumor. The Sonam news, on the other hand, not so great.
News Round-Up: Sonam Kapoor Dating, Happy Bhaag Jayegi Slow But Sure at Box Office, and WILL SMITH!!!
WILL SMITH!!! What the heck is he doing in India? More specifically, what the heck is he doing at a Rustom success party at Akshay Kumar’s house? I mean, it looks like a fun party. Not some huge fancy wedding/Karan Johar style thing, just a relaxed house party. But still! How do they even know each other?
News Round-Up: Box Office, Casting Musical Chairs, and Sarkar 3
Nothing terribly surprising in box office, so I am mashing it in with a couple of other stories as well.
News Round-Up: Box Office, Badminton, and BABY!!!
Slowish news day. Just a few box office reports and some Olympics reactions. And also, BABY! Is Salman’s nephew the cutest baby in the film industry today? Possibly!
Box Office Report: Rustom Wins!!! By A LOT (Per Screen)
This is FASCINATING! The screen numbers are all upside down! Mohenjo Daro had way way more screens, and yet Rustom still made more money! Very impressive, Akshay Kumar!
