You know that feeling when you are at a party and everyone else is sharing a joke but you missed the beginning and aren’t sure why they are laughing or if it was actually funny? That’s how I feel about Commando 2. Suddenly it’s everywhere, and I have no idea what it is or why I should care!
Well, Rangoon is definitely the top pick for the weekend. But it was a terrible terrible weekend, so that is not saying much. The only big hit per screen was the one with inflated ticket prices (more on that later).

Global figures are out! Actually they were out on Monday, but I forgot to check. It’s been so long since I cared about figures! Because we had weeks of “Dangal does awesome, not really news” and then “OK Jaanu does terrible, still not really news.” But now, news! The first week of Raees and Kaabil, how did they do? Poor Aamir. I don’t know if it is even possible for him to surprise us at the box office at this point. Once you reach the limit of how many tickets are even available to sell, and they all sell-out, well then there is no where else to go! Oh dear. I liked it! But apparently, not many other people did. Even worse, Aditya seriously over-estimated the American screen count. Not good!
Global figures are out for Dear Zindagi! Yaaaay! And it did best in North America! Which has no significance whatsoever because North America had an extra 2 days in the weekend! Massive combined post! Because I am trying to end the day/first year of blogging at exactly 999 posts, so I can’t split this up. But I also don’t want to ignore any of these stories!
Woot! Global box office is out! Which is completely unaffected by the demonetization of India. Which means the Rock On 2 producer’s arguments that it is only doing badly because people can’t buy tickets don’t hold up at all.
Yay, second weekend box office is available! And that global-local/multiplex-singlescreen divide is popping up, just as anticipated. Really, these films are not going to clash, besides me, there just aren’t that many people who would be interested in both.
You know I shouldn’t be your primary source for Indian political and other hard news, right? Because I don’t have a strong background in that, and more importantly, I’m not a journalist. If anything, I’m an analyst. I take news other people have already reported and put it together in interesting ways. Overseas Box Office report is out! Woo! And it proves either that Ajay has failed, or that Ranbir is the rising star, or really it’s all about Karan. I’m pretty sure it’s all about Karan.
Little bits of news have started to burble out, as they do during opening day of major releases. What did the public think, how are ticket sales, etc. etc. And, of course, are there massive violent protests or not?
It’s been a bad fall. Because, as my continuing series of posts indicates, the industry is STUPID. Constantly giving too much money and screens to big dumb films, and not enough money and screens to small smart films. But this weekend is so bad, it’s just funny!
Global figures are out! Dhoni did well, but it seems to be driven more by Cricket interest than by Sushant Singh Rajput interest.
Let’s be real, was anyone expecting any kind of a hit for Banjo? No, right? No matter how many songs you release or how hard you promote it, no one is turning out for a Ritiesh and Nargis starrer.
As you may have noticed, I did not see Pink. It just looks toooooooooooooooo depressing! Plus, I wanted to see a Malayalam movie for Onam. But, even though there is no Pink review here for you, I will still give you Pink box office figures.

It’s the Hrithik story that really delights me, and so long as I am writing about that, I thought I might as well hit some others.
As I said in my review, I really really liked Akira. So I am delighted to hear that the box office is picking up a little! Almost as delighted about confirmation for the Amitabh and Aamir rumor. The Sonam news, on the other hand, not so great.
WILL SMITH!!! What the heck is he doing in India? More specifically, what the heck is he doing at a Rustom success party at Akshay Kumar’s house? I mean, it looks like a fun party. Not some huge fancy wedding/Karan Johar style thing, just a relaxed house party. But still! How do they even know each other?

This is FASCINATING! The screen numbers are all upside down! Mohenjo Daro had way way more screens, and yet Rustom still made more money! Very impressive, Akshay Kumar!
