Christmas Means Hope, and Why I Find that in Indian Films

I wrote a silly thing for Sunday using Christmas traditions for fanfic.  And I am doing a Christmas Card giveaway.  All of that is kind of silly and superficial, it may seem as though I don’t take the holiday seriously.  Or maybe I do, but I don’t find anything in it that can overlap with my Hindi film love.  And that’s not the case, so I want to write a post about why Christmas is so important to me, and how it wraps itself around every part of my life, including the films I watch. (this is a repost from last year)

Merry Christmas Eve!!! Grand Finale of the Christmas Season, Give Me Your Address and I Will Send You a Card!!!!

Happy Christmas Eve!  Like many households, we are celebrating with the annual Fight Over Whether Or Not to Go to Midnight Services.  It’s so cold!  And so late!  Is candlelight carol singing really worth it?  Or do we split the difference and either drive instead of walking, or go to the cheating 10:30pm service?  At least it gives us a nice topic of conversation for the next 12 hours

Miss Bennet: Christmas At Pemberly Post (With Spoilers! Watch Out!): This Play is Like Watching a Really Really Good P&P FanFic, but at Christmas!

Procrastinatrix said she wanted a review of the totally silly Christmas play my sister and I just saw (while wearing matching Christmas sweatshirts!). It’s essentially Pride and Prejudice fanfic, but well-written fanfic. So good in fact that I kind of want to end by suggesting a minor rewrite and casting for the Indian version.

Zero Review (SPOILERS): TOO MUCH PLOT!!!!

First, most importantly, ANGIE! And all other Maddy Fans! Maddy is in it for about 15 minutes cumulatively and all he does is stand there looking solid and sensitive in glasses with shaggy hair. Barely has a character. But looks quite good. Everyone else: this movie was a disappointment, but probably still more enjoyable if you go in fresh than if you go in SPOILED. This review is for those who absolutely cannot see it in theaters, or who have already seen it and want to discuss.

Seiches and Zero’s Upcoming Release

Everyone has kind of stopped commenting and reading lately on the blog, and I am also noticing that there aren’t that many new news stories. Another Simmba song, another PC wedding, that’s kind of it. Most of all, I am noticing that I myself don’t have much energy to write anything. Which got me thinking back on a post I first wrote before the release of Fan.

Hindi Film 101: Ramayan and Mahabharat Part 6, The War Begins, Drona and Bhishma Arrive to Meet Their Doom

Part 6!  Back to the main storyline after a detour into Krishna and Karna.  Although I guess there will be more detours here, that’s what the Mahabharat is about, all the little stories that make us think about how things happen, how they begin and end.

10 Indian Movies With White Girls to Start a Discussion

I’m loving this “start a discussion” criteria!  No need for perfection or judgement, just something to talk about.  So, let’s talk!  New topic, white girls in Indian films.  Not the best examples, not the most examples, just some examples.  And bonus, most of these characters show up for a song for 90% of their screen time.  So you can join in the discussion as soon as you watch the songs!  No need to limit yourself to movies you have seen.
