Well, the movie was fine, low budget and quick moving and all that. But the overall arc of the story was really interesting in a way that makes me want to read the book it is based on, because it doesn’t go quite the way you think it will.

The pickier people in my weekly movie night group canceled this week, so I forced myself and the less-picky people to finally watch Drive. It’s a nice solid movie in almost all ways, but I did finally spot the problem that explains why Karan had to make the business decision to delay it, and finally release on Netflix.

It tries to build up more of a backstory for how it happened, but the bigger issue is that it makes the stakes so much lower, and therefore the tension we need to want to keep walking has kind of gone away. Continue readingIf I am reading this correctly, this season has 12 episodes instead of 8 in the first season. Sometimes longer seasons can lead to confusion and blind alleys in the narrative as the show tries to fill more time than expected. So far, I think this show is going the opposite direction.
