We don’t have to forget Katrina either! One of her best early performances was, coincidentally, in an Amitabh movie. No, not Boom.

Amitabh StoryTime: Amitabh and Baz Luhrman
Another story! How Amitabh took his only western film role, not the only role he had ever been offered, but the only role he chose to take. And no, of course it wasn’t for the money.
Continue readingAmitabh and Class Repost, My Article on Classism in India and Indian Film Reporting
The first thing you need to know about this post is that I wrote it back in May. As soon as India started being hit with COVID, I started thinking about class, and how that is going to affect everything, including the reporting on the crisis and the attitude towards who it is affecting. Now Amitabh is sick, and the India (reported) numbers are rising, and suddenly other people are also thinking about class and who matters and who doesn’t. Now, this is a Happy Place, so we aren’t going to get super deep into things here, but it’s a good time to think about how invisible classism effects the way we see the world, and what it takes to wake us up.
Continue readingAmitabh StoryTime: Born the Revolution, Transformed to the Light That Will Not Die
Amitabh Story Time!!!! There are so many little stories of his life, not even worth an article, more kind of bedtime stories you might tell someone. But I thought it would be nice to share some of my favorites.
Continue readingAmitabh Love Week: Abhimaan, One of His Classic Jaya Romances
This is a good movie, and the Amitabh-Jaya romance makes it a great movie. They are lovely together, and in love, and young and sweet and lovely.
Continue readingAmitabh Love Fest, Indefinite Positivity Good Vibes Parade
I’m not sure a totally agree on the power of good vibes and prayer and so on. But I certainly don’t DISBELIEVE it. So in a “can’t hurt and makes us feel better” kind of way, DCIB will become a Good Vibes Parade for a while in service of making Amitabh (and Abhishek) healthy. I know there are millions of other sick people in the world, but this is an Indian film site in the end, and Amitabh is the person we all share.
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week of Katrina’s Birthday?
Happy Monday! I have been busy busy busy, the double birthday this weekend takes a lot out of me (although more out of my father, his wife turning 70 was very hard on him, the pressure for a Decade Birthday Worthy Celebration was enormous). And today I have to have more pre-surgical tests (keep a good thought for me that I pass and can have the surgery) plus do work-work.
Continue readingThe Time Amitabh Came Back to Life, August 1st 1982
Amitabh is living a second life already, which he himself says. Every year he celebrates his second birthday on August 1st, the day he came back from certain death, somehow. We are coming up on the 28th anniversary of that date and Amitabh is once again hospitalized and in danger. A good time to look back at the miracle of his survival.
Continue readingAmitabh and Covid Discussion Space
Thank you alert readers, while I was out on the sailboat with my dad, big BIG news dropped in India and you were on top of it and let me know.
Continue readingGulabo Sitabo Review (SPOILERS): Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam for the Modern Era
Huh. Interesting idea at the center of this, which somehow completely failed to pay off. Oh well, sometimes these movies can be more fun to talk about than to watch.
Continue readingGulabo Sitabo Review (No Spoilers): Sometimes a Movie Really Has to Be About Something
I did it! I watched the first digital premiere major movie! And I really wish I had seen it in theaters so Dina and I could have whispered to each other jokes about how bad it was the whole time. Not a movie that really makes you happy and entertained and happy when watched by yourself streaming. More one that makes you keep checking the clock and waiting for something to HAPPEN.
Continue readingHappy Birthday Dimple! Your Life Story, Up to the Present
Last part! Although I may put up a bonus post kind of coming from the side and focusing on her relationship with Sunny.
Continue readingAdorable Instagram Couples: Dipveer, Jaya-Amitabh, and Others
Instagram! Land of happiness! So nice it just look at pretty pictures of pretty people and not have a million trolls. I will enjoy it while it lasts.
Continue readingTwo Groundbreaking Videos! Gulabo Sitabo Trailer, and Gautham Menon Mini-Film!
Two videos that we should look at both for content, and context. Since they are both “disrupting” the industry.
Continue readingInstagram Round-Up: Anil Kapoor Plays Carom, Karan’s Kids Are Cute and He Looks Like a Total DILF, Tiger Has a Beard, Amitabh Remembers Tulips
All vital news stories of the day!!! Through instagram. I do like seeing these nice photos from nice people, even though social media still scares me.
Continue readingNews Round-Up: Life Goes On! Brahmastra is Delayed, Salman Makes a Bad Business Decision, and Amitabh Makes Us Cry
News round-up! This is mostly because Brahmastra made me laugh and laugh and laugh. Oh, and because I have a new commenter getting to know Amitabh, and it reminded me that he is a combination of rawly emotional and very very restrained in his public appearances.
Continue readingIrrfan Khan Fest: Piku, Irrfan Versus Amitabh
This is one of the few movies where I enjoy Irrfan, but I don’t mind it when he isn’t onscreen either. It’s such a good film with such good performances all around, for once the movie lives up to Irrfan.
Continue readingHindi Film 101: Happy Birthday Zohra Sehgal! You Had a Long Fascinating Life, Let’s Talk About the Amazing-ness!
I love thinking about Zora Sehgal, because she is a great person for “you are never out of time to try something new”. Right now we are all going “oh darn, I missed my chance to do ____ (trip, graduation, whatever)”. And here’s Zora to go “no no no! Whatever it is, it can still happen, at any point. Your life is full of opportunities, always.”
Continue readingIndian Film Myth Versus Truth
What a fun game/way to express our irritation! I am sure as Indian film fans (desi or non-desi) we have all dealt with the scornful outsider who thinks they know everything but really knows nothing.
Continue readingHera Pheri (1976): What is the Line Between Something Being Gay and Something Being Just 70s? Is There a Line?
Well, it’s true, this is the Gayest Movie Ever. There’s 70s fashion, and there’s 70s Hindi film Masala Guy Love, and then there’s this movie. Which is just a whole other thing.
Continue readingHindi Film 101: Jaya Bachchan, Young Wife and Mother, the Wedding to Coolie Incident
Part 2! Jaya post-marriage, the sticky years between 1973 and 1983. The affair rumors, Silsila, and finally almost losing her husband.
Continue readingHindi Film 101: Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan Part 1, Jaya Bhaduri India’s Sweetheart
I honestly thought I had already written this, and I am very excited to discover I have not. Jaya is a fascinating woman, and a bit of a mystery in many ways. Oh also, I will use literally ANY excuse to post adorable young Amitabh-Jaya photos. I think they are tied with Dips-Ranveer for “all time cutest dating couple”.
Continue readingTGIF: Most Distracting Possible Topic! Bulge Pictures
I am pulling the “only open in case of emergency stress levels” cord! Yes, I am doing a TGIF which will allow us all to study famous men’s pants in a certain way. Luckily, many of us are currently working from home, so I don’t even have to give a NSFW warning!
Continue readingBad Girls Month: The Great Gambler! It’s All About Zeenat
I watched it! Thanks to the very few of you in the comments who encouraged me to see it. It’s quite fun, not necessarily good, but fun!
Continue readingBad Girls Month! Rekha Part 3, The Gay Stuff
Part 3! I am so glad I decided to do this in multiple parts. I probably could have squeezed it all into one, but Rekha has really lived many lives, it is only fair to give her many posts. Oh, and again, almost all this information comes from This Book. Buy it if you like these posts and want to learn more! (post 1 here and post 2 here)
